No, I work in the CBD/downtown, which forms part of the declared area (increased security area). The full details of what is being locked down are yet to be revealed, but people working in and around certain buildings will not have access to those during the summit. Early indications are that my department will be forced to take annual leave because we’re close to one of the already designated restricted buildings.
I don’t get why the mainstream media is blurring images and videos of dead bodies.
We’re not children. Just post a graphic warning and those with weak stomachs can skip it.
I disagree.
Considering all of their actions and foreign policies after WWII… This is tame for them.
You think this is bad?
Operation Barbarossa, the Eastern Front, the Soviets vs. Afghanistan from 1979-1989, and General Winter’s wrath at Stalingrad and other metropolises in those times…
People are freaking out, saying stuff like, “This is unacceptable!”, “This is terrible!”
Guess what?
You are lucky that it’s only this “terrible”.
They talked about it on CNN last night. Editors and producers pick and choose what images they’ll use once or at all based on the severity of the incident and attempting to be tasteful. Apparently after 9/11 someone printed a picture of a missing han reaching out the debris and it raised all kinds of hell so it was only used once. But then you have times like Trayvon where his corpse was shown on all the major networks so who knows…
If trained high ranking US Military personnel can’t tell the difference between an airbus and an f-14. Do you think these rebels could?
This whole disaster could have been averted if the airline picked any other path.
Its not like it had to go through that area unlike the Iran air one.
Its still the pro-Russian separatists fault but still i’d be more angry at Malaysia airlines.
Laughing at Ukraine though trying to milk this thing a little too hard.
Why would they have chosen different airspace? They went weeks without incident with how many hundreds of planes? Some dumbass fired that shit and may cause a hellstorm.
The fact they had one plane missing in that area should have sparked something. “Hmm there is a war going on in that part of Ukraine and one of my planes has gone missing in that same area. Perhaps we should avoid that area until we have further information on what happened to it.”
Here is the thing with conspiracy theories, they always rely on everyone keeping quiet and with governments being one humorous tweet away from an international scandal, that isn’t all that possible anymore.
Even the self proclaimed “leader” out that way gave the: “Everything on the Internet, expect it to be lies” as a response to the reporter questioning him with these things:
Gathering of the tweet put out that claimed they were responsible, previous reports of they were really hyped to get control of a rocket recently, and one more thing. Forgot it reading thru all this going on in here instead of facts and discussion over things like those bodies left out at least 2 days, some reporters claiming that they would be messed with by anybody coming by - stealing valuables. Maybe, but not after the 1st day decomposing and such.
Other airlines, such as BA, were already avoiding that airspace. Just because nothing had happened in that area doesn’t mean it’s safe. That’s a consistent rule in aviation. There’s never been a cellphone related aircraft incident, but since there’s still the potential for catastrophic failure, you switch your phone off on takeoff and landing. Same concept, only with advanced surface-to-air rockets.
Four military aircraft have been shot down over Ukraine since June. One of which was shot down at 22,000 feet. Although this is lower than the altitude of the B777 (33,000), it’s also much higher than “ground battle” capabilities (RPGs, MANPADs etc). It was clear that they had higher-altitude SAM tech. It was enough to warrant other airlines to divert.
