(I’m tempted to edit the title to make it clear that this is a recent happening and not a conspiracy thread for the flight that has been missing for a while. People need to stop being so vague with their thread titles.)
I can’t say I’m really surprised given all the bullshit that’s been happening Ukraine this year. Honestly, I’m more surprised that this flight was coming from Europe rather than going to Malaysia when this happened. Why would you want to go to Malaysia, especially if you’re already in Amsterdam?
To be fair, Malaysia seems to be sucking at transportation in general (more) this year between the missing flight, at least two boats sinking off its shores and now this.
At this point I wouldn’t get in any type of Malaysian vehicle this year for fear that it might spontaneously combust, even if it’s just a rickshaw. Actually, especially if it’s just a rickshaw since those are mostly wooden.
It’s been shit ever since before the Cold War began, and then some; the Potsdam Conference between FDR, Churchill, and Stalin, just before Germany fell during WWII were legendarily tense.
This sort of thing just usually isn’t as blatant, or as commonly known about, and now it IS.
People forget how peaceful the time we live in is in comparison. The ages of mass war, pillaging, and capture has been reduced to mere tales/myths in our joint conscious. Unless some randoms wanna perform an air burst and cause fallout then we are really SOL.
Saw it, hella insightful and would explain the die-down on the syria hate.
this “separatist” movement is going to get out of hand eventually. Realistically all of Ukraine should be a restricted air space.
Can the western hemisphere (best hemisphere) just take their hands out of the mess that is the other side of the world and say “fuck it, its yalls problem, yall work it out”?
Ohnoes eurozone gets no more natural gas from russia: doesnt effect me in the slightest. white people killing other white people: doesnt effect me either. that entire hemisphere can go white/red/brown/black/purple for all i care.
You’re right…you should flag your own post for being offensive haha.
On a serious note; in line with what Syke1 said, quality of life has always trended positively over time. So, as dumb and fucked up as the world looks right now, it’s actually the best it’s ever been. Something to think about.
Air travel will remain one of the safest mode of transport, despite killing hundreds of people at a time, per catastrophe, and despite their being an aircraft related incident in the news (typically minor) more than once every 18 days on average.
The fact that it was flying away from Amsterdam is actually pretty relieving, from a “should I be scared of terrorists” perspective. Amsterdam must be pretty high up on the extremist shit-list; literally sex, drugs and rock and roll wax museums. Malaysia, on the other hand is both a bastion of cultural diversity and, at the same time, considered devoutly Muslim, which goes completely against the grain of what TV tells us, in terms of who shoots the planes and who gets shot at.
This particular event is purely a political matter; lines on maps, in my opinion, which is a completely different kind of terror. Will be interesting to see how the media points the finger this time around.
