Makoto Video Thread/Match Critiques

Hey guys its been awhile

I did some stuff recently https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PCkPcp8SIPI

Check it out, i don’t win but its got some hard read options vs boxer you may find interesting

that was a great set there! I saw something on the srk front page concerning boxer where you press back to block but you os throw. not sure if you were trying that in those matches but that boxer was doing lots of close range dash punches…

slk smk target combo is pretty good vs armored attacks. You should not use focus after a stun : you waste damage and make your stun less valuable. Jump HK, Ultra is better than focus ultra. I feel you could have used more light buttons. Meaty clk is quite good vs Balrog.

Well if anything the set was hella hype. You kept punishing his backdashes with Tsurugi, never missed a damage conversion off of an IAT, and that reset off the Red Focus combo was legit as hell.

One thing I noticed was that you didn’t really have any set play. The commentators kept wondering what your set ups off of U1 would be but you played it safe and let him get up without any pressure. If you were to develop your meaty set ups and combine that with your ability for hard reads, you’d be an absolute monster.

My personal favorite set up immediately after U1 is to whiff any forward jump attack, dash once, then HP Oroshi (courtesy of the Rindoukan Bible). It’s a frame perfect meaty set up and the only way they can avoid it is to invincible reversal or use Delayed Wake Up (which is something you can watch for as you’re jumping and dashing before the HP Oroshi). It does an absolutely massive amount of chip if they block high, will overhead if they block low, and will break (and counterhit) armored reversals (ie. EX Dash Punches).

Don’t feel bad, I focus attack after stuns as well, but I like to use the meterless Fukiage launch you get after the crumple to go for an ambiguous reset instead. It’s a personal style choice, but yeah if the decision is to go into U1 instead of a reset set up, Etherealwtf is right; save on the damage scaling you’d get with a focus attack and go for j.HK > U1 instead.

EDIT: Looking at the matches again, ignore me, you were doing safe jump and Oroshi set ups lol, just not very much off of U1, which is what I was hoping to see as I held onto my butt during those comebacks.

yes! meaty cr lk is good vs boxer. started using it myself when I realized it avoids his head butt on wake up.

FA was really just a nervous mistake I realized as soon as I did it. I was thinking I wanted to NJ HK but that just happened instead lol.

I’m not sure about throw OS!

My current u1 oki gets headbutted aside from SJ on boxer :frowning:

I do know about cr lk, but I dont have any good setups :frowning: Currently I just U1 and uf jump twice and crouch tech.

st lk mk is good too because if he does ex rush you can cancel into ex karakusa

Another video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwxS2RQf3-E 1hr 32min

Missed the Tsurugi to force stand after the crumple, got a tricky cross-under reset into Karakusa anyway. Geezus lmao that was damn awesome, great awareness, unless that was planned in which case that was dirty yo.

I’ve never been ballsy enough to go for two Karakusas in a row, I always just convert off of the first one. I guess it’s a decent way to see if the other person is mashing or if they’re too afraid to do anything other than block, but the way I see it you can just as easily check that by stopping your block strings prematurely and just blocking yourself. Less risk to eat something massive like you had to.

If theyre mashing and they’ve demonstrated a willingnsss you can Euro reset to bait for higher dmg potential, and if it works people are more compliant to behave predictably imo

Still my biggest problem is tournament nerves and dropping basic shit like IA axe kick, and karasura U1. I just don’t think i like playing on the stream.

Aaaaand another from pools. Me playing a Hugo / Vega. Jack’s Yang had my life later on in casuals, so maybe he should have went with that pick.

Nice video. I think you should have put the crLK link after Oroshi tho :d

stHP > LP Oroshi > crLK > EX Fuki is something I often do, it’s really good.

I guess it’s not counterhit specific tho

Do you guys have any good frame traps for getting a counter hit HP? Landing one of them is like finding a unicorn.

I just use meaty st mp on their wake up…

u played that chun li match up quite well!

At least you’re getting to fight normal match ups when you’re on stream lol, Northern California is home to about 8 different El Fuerte players, about 5 Rolentos, a fuck ton of Roses, a couple of Blankas, a Vega, 2 Hondas, shit… You come to NorCal to learn all the weird match ups.

My first time on stream I got knocked into Loser’s by an El Fuerte, then I got knocked out of the tournament by another El Fuerte, back to back. Was awful. I wasn’t playing the match up correctly and I got flustered by Q-Bombs because releasing two buttons for an invincible reversal is soooooo hard.

All complaining aside, good matches. Tournament jitters go away the more you play in tournaments but getting over stream jitters is another beast entirely. You have to ramp up to a certain skill level in order to play on stream more and get used to that lime light as well.

Made a short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hus5NOiKDQ4&feature=youtu.be

Never give up, no matter how much damage you take or inputs you drop. You can land Ultra 1.

[GUILE’S THEME INTENSIFIES]

Ha! You were the wild card 0PP 0BP person. You can never tell if the player will be total garbage or completely godlike until the actual match starts.

Man, Hayate Cancels are something I don’t practice enough. I’m so paranoid about dropping it in a tournament that I just go for the guaranteed damage and pray they don’t guess right on the reset. I should just nut up and hide in the lab until I get it down. Good show, sir.

The Guile matchup is often kinda funny like that.
Hard to get in, but sometimes you just kinda kill them in one sequence of action.
