ultra double looks useless IMO unless you intend on picking ultra II for absolutely NO other reason than escaping.
lol just my opinion, I could be wrong.
anyway, sagat got stunned in just one reset and that was without FFS being used! the damage potential and corner push from midscreen looks GREAT!!!
Nice matches.
I love how patient he is in those games. He makes her look very frightening in a way other Makoto don’t.
Those Sagat hitconfirms were godlike tho.
Also, holy shit, Kazunoko double tap like a freaking drummer.
Gonna need to find the vods, but Kelvin’s play from the AE 3v3 teams at Winter Brawl was pretty damn awesome.
Really good use of delayed instant axekicks as a reset tool. He made a lot of good players look silly by doing this.
kelvin makoto looks really good! I think towards the end there it’s just that smug put on a VERY strong offense which makoto in general has a very hard time handling. on top of that, I noticed that smug dealt with tsurigi pressure really well.
I saw those matches, good stuff! his opponents weren’t doing anything about the tsurigi pressure so kelvin abused it, he even forgoes damage to continue the tsurigi pressure. there was no focus, backdash etc. from any of them! they were so intimidated by it that most stood still for the dash up karakusa.
in the matches against many fuerte, I think if he was going to do random ultras he should have picked ultra II which imo works quite well against fuerte.
one dude said that the matchup is in fuerte’s favor, I don’t agree…
Awww yeah! Kelvin is looking solid. He’s really mixing up throwing/tsurugi now. He’s looking like a different mak since the last sets I saw between him and Julio.
Aside from over-reliance on tsurugi…which as Gen pointed out, his opponents weren’t punishing so hey, I detected some trouble punishing backdashes and jumps (same problem that I have). OS sweep and OS u1 are really the only things I’d like him to sprinkle in there to make his opponents scared of backdashing. There was also the couple st. lks he did into ex karakusa, which I’m assuming were dropped kara-karakusas, but that’s execution…glad I’m not the only one who gets karakusa over IAT occasionally.
As for the jumps, I’ve been experimenting with using more cr. HK and st. mk in the corner. OS fukikusa is an option out of the corner.
For the smug match, there’s a few things I can say about the footsies element. I’ve found st. mk to be very useful in this MU. It works decently against HP and fwd HP and is amazing against his st. HK.
If he’s close enough, you can sometimes beat or trade with his HPs with cr. mk. Perfectly spaced st. mp will beat it clean too, but I doubt smug will throw one out at that range. The spacing is about as difficult as (and similar) to beating Adon’s st. HK to give you an idea. Focus also works decent, but smug was really careful with it, I remember him fadcing one on reaction to your FA charge.
The 2 normals that really hurt are his fwd mp and his cr. mk mini sweep. I’ve straight up been beat out of max range sweep by his fwd mp after I started looking for a button to challenge it with. I’m still looking for ways to deal with them, honestly…I play a dudley who prefers playing a slow footsies ground game…and I was beating him soundly until he started abusing fwd mp.
Few things I’ma steal…loved the use of focus dash to get out of the criminal upper at the end of a blockstring. The ex hayate x forward dash x yamase setup was a great answer to bad sand. And sparta kick fadc forward is great fun…I love using cr. mp fadc, might be time to look at more of her fadcable normals though.
how so?
with ex karakusa, lp fuki, backdash, ultra 2 etc. el fuerte has to guess just as much as makoto when she’s knocked down. then again, i’m no expert on the match up lol. does he have an OS that deals with all of this or something?
I honestly believe it’s a 5-5
Very momentum based. Dudley has a DP but Mak has ex grab that can just win against dudley overhead mixups which he relies on so much.
Rounds are usually decided in 2 guess on a knockdown, no matter who is actually down lol.
Well, Street Fighter in general is a game of situational advantages. Makoto does have options, but a lot of them have a ton of recovery–fukiage and ex-karakusa. Also, good fuerte’s will bait you into trying to counter them and demolish you for it. Back in vanilla I saw Kai using Ex run to bait just to put it into perspective for you. That’s not to say I think the matchup is bad for Makoto, because it isn’t. It’s just when he gets a knockdown. In closing, safe tortilla’s are annoying.
