Makoto Video Thread/Match Critiques

looking at those mak rufus matches, isn’t double fuki into ex tsurugi after focus crumple a more damaging option than FFJS ex oroshi? was he going for a setup afterwards…? also, why didn’t he just jump back fierce after ex messiah when U2 wasn’t stocked to avoid the chip?

I love the shrugging at the random ultra’s

I don’t think I’ve won 1 match against a competent Dan. They’re so rare I have no idea what to do against them.

just treat it like any shoto match but in the sense that his fb is useless and his tatsy is his pressure. when he’s close just look for throws and tatsus. tech the throw and cr.mk the tatsu. he really only has like 1 or 2 buttons to compete with ours. his tatsu pressure seems hard to get through but the tatsu itself is actually really easy to cr.mk on reaction.

Some show-off by me.

Just a random match. I typically don’t trade this much or dash into projectiles but you get the idea.

the video quality will get better im messing with settings

From close range,Cr.mk is too slow and you get a CH danku’s. The shit comes when you blocked those kicks, because he can throw you,do or simply backdash, the move is practically safe. You can do Cr.mk from close if the Dan player insists with Cr.lk–LP danku, put your Cr.mk AFTER the blocked Cr.lk. Lk danku can beat even U1 (hit over makoto’s fist),so using that on reaction is out of question.

Oh yeah, I’m really goin’ in.

I treat Dan similar to Bison in that I like to randomly neutral jump a lot. Even the high ranked Dan players like to Dan kick their way in at semi-close ranges because Makoto really doesn’t have a reliable way out of the 50/50 that comes from Dan kicks on block. Usually a neutral jump or just a jump back can punish the attempt and make them think twice about doing it again. You can cr.mk the Dan kicks too, but I don’t always rely on that when he’s close.

After that, he really doesn’t have a lot that her normals can’t beat. Fireball is trash, and you should only be really fearful of any pressure if somehow you get stuck in the corner. Abuse f.mp and be aware of his backdash. It’s almost as annoying as Chun’s.

Any reason you use U1 here?
My main training partner plays ibuki and U2 seems like the better choice to me, simply because it beats Ibuki’s vortex setups clean.

I find that any competent Juri will simply use her jumping normal crossups, instead of her kunai vortex, to get past utra 2.

I’ve only watched the first couple of games but my first impression is that you need to do your ultra 1 more consistently, I recommend triple hitting PPP while holding forward after a d,df,d,df. Once I started using that technique I literally have never dropped an ultra 1 again. There is a certain amount of time after doing the ultra stick motion that you can hit PPP and it will still register as ultra, so take advantage of that and hit PPP 3 times (or more if you want) so that you don’t drop it.

I’m sure you mean ibuki, and I think giving up ultra 1 in this matchup for a trade off of ibuki vortex is well worth the price.
