Makoto Video Thread/Match Critiques

God damn watching Fei matches pisses me the fuck off. It’s always exactly the same vs every character; fish from mid range for focus crumples and CH Rekkas, Carry to corner and mash crouch short/jab, repeat until KO.

And it isn’t that I think Fei is OP or anywhere close, it’s just…boring as shit.

I recently started playing Makoto again after a long hiatus. Also, started a YouTube Channel to share some game play. Working my way up to 3k BP again. (Playing Random ranked has not been great to my BP.)

I am pretty sure I use Focus WAY too much and not enough Tsurugi’s. I am rather reckless overall probably. Though, I go with a momentum play style I think. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here’s a couple to share:

Thanks for watching. I have learned a lot here. Always enjoy learning new things.

@tod

I always love watching newer maks with decent fundamentals, my playstyle is getting way too gimmicky :…anyways.

You already know you focus too much, but you should really look at when you like to focus and think of alternatives. For example, in the sagat vid you focused mostly to get through projectiles, which left you hugely open to armor breaking ex knee. You also focused a lot on his wakeup, which was fine since he didn’t know how to deal with it really, but you threw quite a few opportunities for safe jumps and fairly safe pressure out the window by doing so. Sagat wakes up with a slightly different timing than most of the cast, but his DP is slow and fairly easy to safe jump anyways.

Your approach was probably the weakest part of your game. You never really opted for neutral jumps over sagat’s shots and you rarely focus dashed forward at distances that would get your opponent scared. That and he caught on to your habit and started spamming ex knee (although he clearly was panicking towards the end, not smart to burn all that bar on ex knees).

Next time you fight a zoning character, try to limit the amount of times you focus. Mix up the way you deal with avoiding projectiles more (block, neutral jump, fwd jump, FA dash, axe kick over). A lot of times it is just better to raw dash than to focus dash, since a focus will just give your opponent more time to react to your more limited options (focus attack, fwd/bck dash). Mak’s fwd dash is very powerful because it is fast, don’t just tack on the FA everytime to try and be more safe, you’re just slowing it down in a lot of instances. I know it can be scary to dash in on a projectile character, but dashing into a projectile is way better than absorbing one and losing grey health to a jab or something. Just be more patient and get into that range where you can fwd jump or HK IAT a projectile on reaction and you’ll find your success rate will greatly increase.

I can’t really comment too much on the Akuma vid since you made a lotta gutsy plays that paid off (dbl dash karakusa, several FAs into crumple, and heh, dat raw karakusa on opponent’s wakeup…I’ll only use it after I’ve played someone for quite awhile though and am damn sure they won’t do anything). A lot of those FAs you did were incredibly risky too, cuz he could have did far st. HK instead of sweep in a few of those instances or in the worst case canceled his sweeps/f. st HK into demon.

I live in USA east and I’ve played a few of the guys on your channel with pretty good connections, maybe we can get some matches in, I play on PC quite a bit. GT is Machohko. I play a few other characters aside from mak (not very well but good enough to be able to help your gameplay probably).

Who is Meu1988? Just an online player or does he go by another name in tournaments?

He’s Misse, #3 Makoto in the Arcade Ranking in Japan.

Thanks man. The Sagat match was probably not ideal to post honestly. That was one of my first matches after not playing her for a rather long while. But the Gouki one is recent. Most Gouki players use sweep too much, so I try to exploit that with her FA’s range. I definitely need to get more IAT into my game. And dash without focus. Just a bad habit. I’ll work on my approach.

I’d be glad to play some matches sometime. I play other characters too. Not a big fan of Makoto mirrors lol.

Yeah, them gouki players want that hard knockdown. I’ve only played a few who consistently cancel normals into u1, but it is absolutely devastating and not incredibly difficult to do from my understanding.

Who are the #2 and #1?

I’ll try to add you tonight. Hopefully we can play a few games soon and level up.

this is a FT5 with me vs xWAx solid . a great ryu player. i lost my composure in the last match which still leaves me upset a week later lol

i should have stuck to the game plan and let m=him see that firballs didnt bother me and let him try to come to me.

Nice set even if a losing set. You really doing good at first, after Wax become more careful about leave you get closer startin’throw out some shoryus to keep you at the bay. Maybe you take too damage trying to get in from above, where Ryu have the answer for it. Now his fireballs are more harmful, aside Tsurugi/plinked Tsurugi on him better jump neutral sometimes pushing Ryu to the corner slowly. Even meaty attacks becomes too risky against a shoryu-type opponent, never of’em wanna try our scary mixups on their skin. I’ve used U1 against him for so long, but right now I’m stick with U2,just to convince my opponent to think twice before throw some fireballs,a simple fear factor. Get close to him seems not a problem for you,not even doing damage without it,so why not? A question, why you never tried to do a karakusa EX on his safe jumps? Fear about OS? Besides of all,I’m in love with your Mak

Audio is seriously out of sync. Interesting (and wonky) trades heh.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry for the sound, my software seems lazy recently.

thank you. i actually didnt know that ex karakusa beats safe jumps. is that only for ryu? i know it doesnt work for Rog for sure.
