This guy Haztlan is a very dedicated and good player. He beat me 17-12 that day. But I’m missing too much tsurugis with my new stick. =(
Maybe I should use U2 (as Haitani uses) in this matchup. Claw’s corner pressure is too hard to deal with and his walkback speed makes Karakusa whiff very easilly. Often, getting cornered = ggs.
My braindead makoto in action vs a friend who is starting sf4 :
in this match up it all depends on how your doing. feel like you need a way out all the time AND want to punish his flips HARD then u2 is the way to go. if you know how to get your offensive started and you know you’ll get your karakusa then go with u1. its like most of her match ups imo for ultra selections. thats just my general experience playing jozhear.

I didn’t test U2 against him yet. But I remember finding very hard to hit karakusas on Claws as he walks away too fast, has that very good backdash and usually stand techs. But the real problem with Makoto in that matchup is once you are in the corner and have to deal with tick-karathrows (I had a lot of trouble teching that stuff, because he grabs out of our grab range and you have just a 3 or 4 frames window between a blocked cr lp and the karathrow). I think another good way out of the corner without U2 would be to counter poke with cr lp (or st mp if seems more apropriate) buffered into ex hayate, and, why not, do a random empty jump over him or ex oroshi. In the matches against Haztlan, I tried very often to do plinked cr lk into ex hayate to get out the corner, but as I realized after, this is a bad choice as his cr lp goes over Mak’s cr lk.
Actually, I don’t know! But it might catch him mid air if he chooses do to a follow up. I used U1 in this matchup… Maybe that’s the reason I hated that matchup so much.
claw vs makoto is actually fun for me! st HK and U2 is all… seriously, you just can’t ignore the range of st hk in this match up as well as the fact that U2 punishes wall dives HARD!
I agree that st HK is good for trading/counter poking against Claw and I also like to use it, but it doens’t produce as much momentum as st MP buffered into Hayate. Also, good Claws will throw that Cosmic Heel to make you regret whiffing “slow buttons”.
