Makoto Video Thread/Match Critiques

Depends on the follow up. But generally the three best ways to punish it:

After blocking the first barrage of kicks, do f.LK, HCB, PP

+No follow up and he gets hit by kara EX Oroshi
+If he does LK Follow up, Kara EX Oroshi comes out, and the both of you whiff. You can punish (i think).
+If he doesMK Follow up, Kara EX Oroshi Hits
+If he does HK Follow up, Makoto will cross, and do EX Fuki

-if he does delayed LK Follow up, he will win, but it is VERY DANGEROUS to do this because if you just block, you can punish HARD.

After blocking the first barrage, Neutral jump HP works for BIG DAMAGE, especially when in the corner anytime he does MK or HK Follow up.

You can pretty much s.MP your way out of anything other than a straight LK follow up. Mash that shit son! get your scrubbb on!

Shiro tends to go with safer options. U1 is TOO good against Bison. U2 is much more risky and you can’t catch him as much. Since he doesn’t have a projectile, and he is a down-back character, its easier to grab him with Karakusa, so U1 seem natural. Also most bisons ive seen tend to freeze up if you dash at them, so karakusa is always an option.

He prefers to save the meter. At least that’s what we think lol.

Hello people

I dont post here much, but I do read threads a lot, and they have really helped me out, but I still need a LOT of work. Here are a few of my matches…

Oh hai scarz, I don’t post here much either, but I’m trying to make a habit of talking about vids more. First off, I’m liking your style, you’ve got a very risky, fun style to watch. Reminds me of flash metroid a bit, especially in the Abel match.

Abel Match
Holy mother of mix-ups…Batman. Normally when I play people I play it safe (think robo…or maybe mossad, offered that advice somewhere) until I feel I can get away with mix-ups, but damn you went all in on that Abel match. You’re making me want to practice that double FA!

I did detect a slight over-reliance on wake-up ex oroshi and ex karakusa though, which hurt ya bad when that change-of-direction crossed up your input at around 1:40 and made ya eat an u2. You were in a good spot there, mashing ex.kara was a huge risk! I bet you picked that up from all those shiro vs pikagoma matches

Seth Match
I’m gonna be honest here man, you probably didn’t deserve round 2 there! I think this seth handled the match terrible after you got that fuki->ex hayate. I guess his mindset was to stay the hell away and zone you, but he got so predictable…it was pretty much boom -> backdash over and over till he backed himself into the corner, which is obviously where he doesn’t wanna be against mak! Then he just started jumping repeatedly! He should have pressed the attack while you were still relatively close to the corner…I guess you really got him scared! But yeah, what am I doin!? This is about you not him!

I think your play was fairly solid here Scarz, I got a few things to throw out there though.
-delayed tsurugi just a bit too high at 0:59.
-Nice ex. oroshi at 1:04.
-Bad, bad over-reliance on ex karakusa at 1:39.
-Why no ex hayate at 1:54? That was the full corner combo if I’m calculating that meter build right, think that woulda nearly closed it out right there.

Ryu Match
Man…your fukiage usage in this match was so pro! Be careful with those cr. lks into hayates though, I see you do that follow-up a lot after a hayate. When you play someone who knows how to punish them it hurts! Ex hayates too, you did one in this match, but it hit so…there ya go!

I saw that blockikusa attempt at 2:26 too! I’m assuming you went for one at 1:43 too, but ended up with cr. lk instead of standing. Way too early on the HK karakusa in the former, but you probably know that! Also, come round three, I could tell this Ryu was broken. This pleases me.

Anyways, you’re probably better than me Scarz, but that’s what I got for ya. Share some losses with us so I can see how you play under pressure.

Couple of other things

1-don’t reset twice in a row. When you get one reset, count your blessings and go for damage. Showing off will get makoto hurt…
2-ALWAYS go for damage FIRST. Then worry about mixups later. Here’s why:
–if you don’t go for damage, they won’t fear you
–they can escape mixup. There’s no escape for damage
–if you have a chance to kill, do it. A better Abel would have bodied you for letting him live…
3- nice play in the Seth match.
4-however note to use BOTH fukis when you land one.
5-also if you’re close to the corner, go for the corner combo. Damage is key. You DO NOT want to give these guys a second chance!
6-nice safe jump usage… Bad punishment. Hit me harder… That’s what makoto is all about
7-NICE fuki reaction against ryu. Good set. It’s great that fuki is on your mind cause it is a powerful tool
8-only criticism is that you should know your distance where you need to Kara, or always Kara.
9-don’t worry about the blockakusa fail lol. Happens ALL the time

Good matches man.

Thanks for the feedback pairedplague and mossad man, much appreciated and will take it all into account :D.

The thing about when I play is that I start to panic even when I have a clear life lead, and it makes me do silly things lol, like missing easy punishes and what you saw in the ryu match where it looked like I was going for a blockakusa. I need to learn to keep calm in those situations.

Im gonna upload some more of my matches soon including my losses  .

Thanks again

Skimmed them, saw a few things I might add. Didn’t watch them all, be warned.

 1. At that awkward range for Makoto where s.MP will hit but will then push her out, use f+MP or IA Tsurugi, or on the defensive side of things use c.LP/c.LK xx EX Hayate buffer pokes. You use a lot of c.MP here, which isn’t its effective range. f+MP especially will lead into a CH setup or just in general a semi-frame trap s.MP xx EX Oroshi or c.LK xx EX Hayate at this range.

 2. When you go air to air, don’t use Tsurugi as your lead in. Most people online will reversal here, even more intermediate/advanced players will play the 50-50 here more so than on wake-up. Just be careful.

 3. As my man MM said, watch out for those resets. Just one is enough to instill a mashing of backdash, SRK, or jumping when put into this situation again. Setups and damage first, resets a distant second.

Checked out LtheOldType’s Channel Today after seeing the video posted on youtube by overhead and the story on the main page. It’s pretty great. Not sure if his videos have been posted here before. The guile match-ups are great to watch but my favorite has to be the 8 hit combo off karakusa during the joytron stick testing. Never seen anyone do that before… although not sure if anyone would try to pull that off online.

the guile player doesnt know the matchup :frowning:

Some Haitani action in this one.

There are a few fights by Shiro which are quite entertaining.

Critique please. started playing makoto 3 days ago.

 • s.MP xx MP Oroshi is a bad string. 8 frame gap on block, 5 frame gap on hit, 2 frame gap on counter-hit. When I fight, how should I say, “unrefined” Makotos, I spam throw an exceptional amount when under pressure because a lot of those Makotos like to use Oroshi wrong. Get your buddy to keep Oroshi to hit-confirms, meaties, and s.HP xx MP Oroshi frame traps.
 • This one’s kind of on both of you: where are the AAs? s.MK and c.MK wreck shop on Makoto.
 • 3+LP, 5+LP+HP wrecks shop on Makoto’s wake-up.
 • No random Hayates.
 • c.LK punishes any Hayate, EX or otherwise.
 • After knockdown, f+HK feint if he wants to go that cross-up route, not f+HK.
 • After U2, he should go for dash Fukiage, but he could also go for the simpler MK Tsurugi, EX Hayate. He went for the very poor choice of EX Tsurugi. Basically the priority goes, from a meter and damage necessity perspective:
 1. Dash LP Fukiage if that will kill them (more meter).
 2. JC HK Tsurugi if that will kill them (more damage, less meter).
 3. Dash LP Fukiage, EX Tsurugi with at least one bar.
 4. JC MK Tsurugi, EX Hayate for an easier, more cornering setup with one bar.
 5. JC HK Tsurugi without meter.
 • He needs to start hit-confirming more. Check out the AEMAKOTO guide for them. He’s basically going all in all the time for no reason.
 • AA Fukiage should be followed up at the least by MK Tsurugi, if not (Kara-) HP Fukiage, EX Tsurugi.
 • He should use U1 in the mirror. Going back to the “unrefined” Makotos, they seem to rely on it for a lot of random wins and uses. I’m not saying U2 doesn’t have its place in mix-ups and the like, but I’m a firm believer that almost any trickery you can use to go into U2, you could do the same with Tsurugi or Karakusa.

f+LP, sadly, isn’t really that useful. Sure, it’s one of her only consistent options after MP Hayate, but it’s 0 on block and only +3 on hit (+4 on CH). Its main purpose is to simmer an opponent down and set her up for a fat f+MP CH combo.

THANKS ALOT FOR THIS!

I’m CaptainxClas btw

My bad, sorry.

I thought this was spacing specific, but then again I probably drop the 1-frame punish. It’s also a good idea to plink the cr.Short in this case. Thanks for your critique though! If I am to help Makoto players out there I’d have to be a decent one myself. Very different from 3rd Strike.

There’s another Makoto I’ve have had mirrors against, as well I play as my Ibuki against her.

Ibuki vs. Makoto starts at 2:38
Makoto Mirrors starts at 6:50

When you feel that you’ve practised Robot Makoto’s advice I’ll play with you again in a ft3 format so we can see you adapt and make reads chronologically. =)

me vs a pretty solid Mako imo, lol at his inputs when he got dizzied at the end!

Ok so here’s the Dee Jay Video I promised.

Yeah after I learned to block after game 2 things got a lot better lol. should’ve went to training first but whatever. Good set. After I saw how well I did, I went back to play a bunch of ranked matches. I’ll be posting some of those too, especially againt the highter BP players. Got a coupled of 10K Bisons and a 14K Viper. Good stuff.

Oh and as you all can see I changed my name lol

E. Makoto, I recall playing you before! GGs!

Really? What’s your name in XBL? I just changed it a few days ago…

EDIT-oh NVM. I remember now. Yah GGS man. If it was ranked it might get posted soon… I don’t know. Im gonnq post random games from ranked.

Ok I also uploaded a few ranked matches. Here’s a couple… There’s more on my page. Looking for holes here, guys. less than obvious mistakes. I was on fucking fire yesterday. Lucky as hell a lot too. But luck is preparation + opportunity so… medonknow.

Anyway, I’ll probably be posting about once every other week until EVO. I’m also going to post any match i play against anyone with 10K BP or more. All of this is for EVO Prep. Need moar tournaments :frowning:

Enjoy, Guys

@mossadman
Vid 1
Obvious, but you gotta combo ultra 1 from deep j.HP. I’m not sure why you were fishing for c.HP at the end of the second round, if you’re looking for that low final hit go for c.LK -> hayate. It’s even more safe on block.

The other two vids were pretty solid. Why no backthrow safe jump love? You played the perfect characters for it too. The meaty setup is cool, but I feel the safe jump gives you better pressure options.

DJ vid: You gotta stop pressing buttons and block on your wake up! :). Also punish upkicks better! If you have time punish with fukiage otherwise c.MP -> hayate. You just kept tickling him with LP. I like you use of HP.oroshi on his wakeup, you could tell he had no idea what to do once he realized it beat everything

Great reactions with fukiage! Keep the vids coming. Sorry I couldn’t say more, my xbox is dead so I’m kind of not in the groove of things…
