Makoto Video Thread/Match Critiques

Thanks for your feedbacksand the review of the Akuma vortex :slight_smile:

In my case, I chose U2 for those reasons :

[]if the opponent can apply a really strong vortex (yun / akuma / ibuki), I try to use it only to escape (from the feedbacks, I understand that I should do it in certain condition, e.g. not in the middle of the screen). So once I eat a knockdown, times to times I mash the U2 motion, if I see that the enemy is not doing anything, I try to not press 3k, if he jump I try to catch it with U2 except if it’s a safe jump (I just flee in this case), and times to times when they do ambigous fake meaty, I do U2 to flee away. Last situation is when they are at not so close from my distance (e.g. I’m on the corner they are on middle screen), I just do U2 in the same position as I was, if he try to poke, it usually counter him since his hurtbox is more close from my distance, otherwise I came back from where I was and if do in certain condition, it’s quite safe (it works quite well, but you have to be very carefull about the distance)

By the way I never do the setup for U2 crossup, I have to learn that later
I have no idea why I never went in training mode to train to punish akuma teleport, I could have win much more if I did it properly, most of the time, after a tsurugi during his wake up, if he goes for teleport, I always said to myself I couldn’t have time to punish, well I will do that right after

So you mean that when I’m in poke range, I should only do cr.mp without the OS ? (except if it’s obvious that I could link)
it sound like a stupid question, but usually I always do cr.mp hayate, don’t know why, bad habit

Need to train that, I miss a lot of damage because of that!
about U2 to punish teleport, how do you usually do in real matchs ?
wait / see / reflex U2? or keep the pressure with meaty / tsurugi on his wakeup then instant U2 reflex?
By the way against characters who have inv move in 3 frame like shotos, do you ā€œsafe jumpā€ them often? (since it’s not really safe jump if they shoryuken)

He wasn’t bad, rather he just didn’t know what he could exploit in the match up or how to punish specific situations.

Yea it was more of the case that there were several situations that he could have gained more ultras. Makoto’s U2 is great for escaping in the corner and when Akuma doesn’t have ultra because OS Sweep is actually punishable with U2. Once Akuma gets Ultra though he can always mash after the flash to catch Makoto except in the corner because Makoto just moves too far away.

You will still want to use U2, but you just got to know when it is safe to do so.

U2 getting stuffed or counter ultra’d (damn you, every Dudley I’ve ever played) happens to me all the time. Its part of the reason why I ONLY use it to punish fireballs or escape.

If I figure out my video rendering problem, I’d definitely send you some clips.
Said problem is kicking my ass though.

Honestly I think it is complete BS that you can land the ultra 2 dive kick on a person mid air but then they get up and you are still in the middle of the attack and completely vunerable to ANYTHING they want to do. Lost a number of matches that way.

You throw U2 at some WEIRD spots, but the Hakan one made me laugh. She has such a WTF look on her face!

Huh, I never had this problem. You can still BD/Jump cancel if the first hit connects, can they actually punish you before that??

Its really only a problem online where sometimes the lag messes up the cancel.

I agree landing an Ultra 2 on a mid air opponent and not getting full hits is crap (but then, Sagats still have that corner Ultra bullshit) but it isn’t hard to hold up the entire time. I don’t see how Lag would get in the way of that… :\

@Dlieu => the use of the crMP OS hayate (IMO), is very powerful when used at the right distance : a little bit further than the long poke your opponent has (for instance, versus ryu, i put myself just out of the crMK range, and use it here). When you’re too close, you don’t have too use this, as you can progress your way in (f+MP / f+LK / dash), and if you still continue to use it, you can do : crMP os hayate and if the crMP hit the guard, directly push a kick button to cancel the hayate (i use this often).

@robotmakoto => i was sure that the crMK beat akuma dive kick … and for the Ultra, i don’t use U2 as it can be beaten too easily. Anything from jump HP / HK, to karakusa or tsurugi can make the U1 connects, so i prefer it : )

What happened to Shiro on the 5th round just near the end? He did a EX Hayate into lp Fukiage into a NOT EX Tsururgi? That would have killed seth and ended the match/game for him?

Also did Seth get nerfed that bad? I haven’t actually read seth changes but its the 3th perfect (i think) i’ve seen Poongko eat since v.2012. He was so godlike…

Yes you right. My bad. I mainly asked for 2 reasons.
First: I was thinking it could be a new v.2012 thing like mk tsururgi having higher Juggle points or something.
Second: I play with a controller and when i want to do a ex attack i click the 3 kicks button, therefore it always comes out (as long as there is exbar), so I forgot about the arcade sticks where you actually need to click 2 buttons.

Also remember, there IS latency to keep in mind for these matches. Not much (since korea and japan are so close and both have good internet) but it is there.

Only vids I saw are from shiro, which is ok, but he’s not really using anything new (I think i saw him do TC1 ONE TIME) so…

Back on topic, yeah not so many videos, by the way i dont think many of us have already added TC1 to their game. I personnaly try to use it, but damn habits die hard. It seems vryu would like to upload some videos, since according to his twitter he’s desperately seeking help to get his new capture card to work. :smiley:
