Makoto Strategy and Match-ups

i wish i would see more makotos in American tournaments maybe the yun mathcup is scaring ppl form playing makoto. I think makoto still takes quite allot of skills to play they really should have given her normal walk speed how does gief walk faster than her. Having cammy walk speed on makoto would be so good just for adjusting spacing

Yeah now that people aren’t mindlessly playing him, the matchup is getting tougher. Those TCs make FAs absolutely useless. I’m still pissed he has a throw invincible command grab and we don’t : (

The Yun I’ve been sparring with has started modeling after Daigo with s.MP xx LP Shoulder pressure, much like Makoto’s frame traps after Hayates. It’s so effective once he has you scared to start backdashing or jumping from his OP command grab, and it’s an easy hit-confirm into Gay Jin. I know it’s not a true blockstring … but I really don’t want to start using EX Karakusa when he can go into his TC or not go into the string at all and mess you up badly.

Speaking of which, what do you guys do after a blocked LP Shoulder (-3 frame advantage for Yun)? c.LK doesn’t reach and most pokes are a free dive kick. They pretty much made this move to be annoying, he can neutral jump into one of his three dive kicks at this point almost for free. Maybe s.LK TC?

Also, how do you guys even keep a Yun cornered? Between his EX Lunge Punch, his varying dive kicks, his buffer pokes, and his reversals, among other things, I rarely keep Yun there. Half the time I try buffer poking with c.LK and he dive kicks for free, the other half of the time he gets out with some other bullshit. The only thing I can think of to counter all these things is standing a bit out of sweep range and spamming s.MP (no buffer) or just waiting to AA with a god damn s.LP for 30 damn damage. Seriously.

stMP -> LP shoulder doesnt combo on guard, you can EX oroshi.
Or even FA (shoulder isnt armor break)

My recent match against yun and yang convinced me that EX fukiage is so great (especially kara EX fukiage (1/3 of the screen. lol)).

I noticed that makoto FA goes over yang’s crLK.
For example, FA (even lvl1) his divekick, then release. If he does crLK afterward, she goes over it. (completly useless if he does crLP though xD)

Os dash is mp>dash/mp right? How do you do OS jump back? I appreciate the help!

Just wondering, any OS’s vs Bison or general match-up theory? I’m having a really hard time dealing with his tools, it doesn’t help that you can’t really get in range for cr.mp as scissors kick and his pokes control those ranges really well.

I know you can punish his ex.crusher on block with ex.hayate, but other than that I’m pretty lost. Any help would be appreciated

yes, thats how you Os dash. or safe jump Os dash/mp.

Os jump back is the same, so you input a back jump when you’d land if your air normal whiffed.

BIG UPDATE on the s.MP xx LP Shoulder pressure, friends! You can after blocking one do a dash forward MP Fukikusa (63214+MP+HK). Don’t ask me how, but it auto-corrects while you’re under him. Beats neutral jumps and should beat some diving.

Nah, you’ll get fucked up, LOL. Good OS for if you read he’ll neutral jump (which everyone does) or block. I guess s.MP OS Hayate takes care of his s.MP pressure, since you’re out of range. You gotta guess, like always, against Yun.

what the hell do u do vs adon? I find makoto struggles really hard vs him since he can spend all day neutral jumping and u cant do shit.

s.MP, s.HK, cr.MK. Also, no one should be neutral jumping you anymore.

This guy its like, I do any strings and he just nuetral jump j.HK at me, EVERY SINGLE TIME, and on midrange he just starts jumping upwards all the time and doing jaguar kicks…shit pisses me off, because like…he’s not really playing SF, he’s just being random and getting away with that

Vertical jumping is Mak’s bane. It beats EX Kara and EX Chop, her only moves that could even THEORETICALLY be reversals. For some characters with really strong vertical jump attacks (Adon, Bison, Sakura, off the top of my head) it also becomes a bit of a bait for you to try and anti-air it with anything, and if you try, you’ll probably get crushed. I’ve even had it beat Tsurugi when my IAT pressure got predictable. Watching for vertical jumps and being able to fuki on reaction is going to be a big part of her defense in this game.

Aside from that, cr.mk is good against jaguar kicks. Have to do it pretty early, though.

Also, on the topic of Yuns st.mp xx lp shoulder trap, if I get hit with one st.mp xx shoulder, I’ve started just blocking for the second st.mp and then throwing out EX Karakusa. Shoulder doesn’t break armor, so if he cancels into it, you’ll just absorb the hit and snatch him right up. It’s a dice roll, but fuck, I’ll take whatever I can get against this bastard.

f+MP is really good for moving, stuffs a lot of JKs. Have you tried throwing in c.LK xx EX Hayate or s.MP xx EX Oroshi into your strings to keep him honest? In SSF4 neutral jumps and back jumps were a lot worse, best we really had outside of EX Oroshi was far c.HP or a naked c.LK to condition them somewhat safely. Now we’ve got a faster, better Fukiage and a much all-around better c.LK.

if Adon does air jaggies just FA them, & he’s neutral jumping cause he’s expecting you to dash (which most Makotos do for some reason)

Ok. Confirmed that target combo and (kara) EX fukiage REALLY annoys yang’s air game.
Oh and i choose u1 now vs him. His u2 and shoryu can hit you after you flee with ultra2 :frowning:

And guard OS LP fuki is good to counter his crossup/divekick mixup after a knockdown (dp input -> back + delayed LP).
His dive kick hits earlier than his crossup. So if he does dive, makoto guards, if he crossup, makoto fukiage
