Makoto Strategy and Match-ups

U1 might be worth it on Oni. His regular fireball doesn’t reach fullscreen, but his hcb one does so he might rely on it. Of course, that has such a huge startup that it’s quite easy to react to with Abare, so there’s that. It really seems like it’s about preference or playstyle.

makoto vs yun tips and tricks:

Funny as hell lol. I dont’ know how but think i saw this on youtube immediately after you posted it, and before you posted it on here. I was looking for the other video. This shit is AWESOME

Makoto Wins

Earlier today (about 2 hours ago actually) I tried punishing lolilol-meter-building-palm with ex hayate but was too slow to react and traded with him instead :’(

aside from that, nice stuff v-ryu!

Hey everyone, I scoped out the front page and theres a great amount of info so kudos for all that. Does anyone have some more in depth details for how to eck out a win against guile? I just can’t get through all the sonic booms and U2 doesn’t seem to help much D: [I got a U2 off while the boom was coming out of his hands and he still flash kicked me out of it OMG I THOUGHT THIS GOT NERFED Full screen I admit]. It just feels like he has a shield up and I can’t get through at all. Can’t even think of focusing through them else I get something or another to the face. I try to advance with IATs but he just backs up and throws a boom which resets the situo somewhat. If I get cocky with it he can focus it or backfist on reaction. I also find him a bit hard to outpoke, but mostly because of the FBs, not like Feis everything is further stuff. I think I respect his wake up a little too much, but its like it takes so much work to get in I feel like reversal is gonna be the go too for him. I just dunno! Any help please?

Very nice, I was using chop and ex dash already, didn’t know about is dp, tech throw and mk! I was using OS throw and mk, which got me owned by late dive kicks.

How exactly do you pull off OS fuki, mk, throw? I have know ideal what the commands should be.

I believe the command is 1 :lp:+:lk:+:mk:, 313, :lp:

-If they throw you tech.
-If they dont’ do anything or if they jump you do c.:mk:. This beats a low dive kick
-If they jump high and do a late dive kick, the c.:mk: comes out, whiffs, and afterward you OS the LP Fuki. This will work against late dive kicks (and actually against many other NJ attacks

godlike tips.

godlike ending to video.

Great OS this should help quite a bit in the yun match up is there a reason why you feel its not for yang also .
Seems like it might be good vs other dive kick chars cammy comes to mind.

might not be adding anything new or of interest here, but standing mp stops Yun’s zesshou hohou (ex too) dead in its tracks

Little FYI, guys: MK Tsurugi, s.HP whiffs on crouching Yun unless you delay the s.HP.

I hate you, Capcom. You always give the top tier weird hit-boxes that give them even more natural advantages. First the charge characters, now Yun.

I’ve been playing a mediocre Fei Long a lot recently. He does a lot of mid-range CWs to get in, and it’s actually giving me problems, because I frequently get CH while trying to s.MK AA it. It’s too dangerous to hold forward for LP Fukiage at this range because a random Rekka string will wreckka you and send you to the corner.

Sometimes everything works at this range (c.MK, s.MP, s.MK), other times I get stuffed with a few pixels of difference in spacing. Fukiage always works with proper timing, but that’s if you’re both waiting for it and already buffering forward or more.

Yeah, i’ve been having some trouble with the fei long match. He’s got a lot of safe pressure on wake up and easy ways to get in. Not really sure how to approach the match.

try to stMP/crLP OS (EX) hayate, and buff fukiage input. As soon as you see chicken wing, just push LP to fukiage his ass :).

and try to be in range of whiffing rekka to punish it.

but this matchup is difficult. I choose ultra2 to escape corner and make him think twice before he rushes me in corner.

I use a lot of c.mp/mk, random f+lp/f+mp to try and counter his advances, his c.mp is slightly faster tho, but no combo outside of point blank so buffer in hayates and roll for some trades. s.mp gets CH all day so I don’t use that so much. s. hk trades with rekkas done at the same time, so its sorta worthwhile. Outside of his range I like to jump up and down and if he rekkas come down with a HK Tsurugi, CW just HK it. . On his wake up a HK Tsurugi done high will beat or trade wtih non ex flame kicks as well as causing CW to go under, just land to bail those out . If you get cornered its a big problem in my mind[probably the biggest problem since he’ll push you there so easily] since he can just stand outside of the range and rekka on your guard forever or FA/flame kick if you jump around trying to hit him out of it. EX Chop works kinda well if you’re into mind reading. Or dashing out when you think he’ll stop. I like trying it after two hits of the rekka, its not punishable, but they are minus which helps. Otherwise fast normals and hope to not get CH into a 10 million frame confirm. Still trying to get into the habit of jump back fierce which might hit more reliably…

@v-ryu I never thought of using U2 as a flat escape that’s a pretty sick idea esp in matches where its somewhat more unlikely to land karakusa. Kinda feels like 3s with the supers reversed lol. Edit: Sorry I should learn to read you already answered this question like 10 posts up

I loled at the begin gr8 stuff ! crmk OS lp fuki gdlk. Does it work midscreen?

rhaaa, the end wasnt clear enought. It’^s like I fought YUN-THE-LAST-BOSS, then ending credits :’( i’ll do better next time. hahaa.

yes it works midscreen. But it’s difficult to do. I don’t have a 100% success, but it’s possible. And it’s dangerous if yun does empty straight jump (fukiage miss).

Maybe this is range dependent, because when I hit cross up mk tsurugi I can definitely follow up with hp x whatever on Yun.

i was just about to comment on this. You have to wait longer than if they’re standing, but it does work.

I finally got back from business trip from hell and I am going to do some testing on how fast U2 is and what it can punish. I have the same mentality- U1 until the I need to get the eff out or get the eff in.
