Alright, thanks for the help guys. I know what you’re saying about making Adon come to me, it’s just I can’t rely on defense forever - plus I mainly play with a runaway Adon, so that doesn’t help.
I’m really glad to see there’s a safe jump on him, I was really unsure about normal methods because of his weird wake-up timing. Thanks.
Does anyone have strategies for cody. I’ve been in the training room, but im not getting much out of it. Does anything beat ZONK KNUCKLE EX? It seems to destroy my meaty setup attempts like this one
Yes. Bait and punish! You have to be VERY careful of EX Zonk. It beats everything you have. Literally. Even Ultra 1. Timed properly i believe it beats Ultra 2. This fucking thing does 350 stun. It is not safe on block though, so bait and punish with whatever you feel. Instead of backthrow dashx2, oroshi, mix it up with backthrow, dashx2, BACK DASH, Yamase. He wont’ do that anymore. You really have to just block well against cody. I mean you should always block well, but don’t be fooled. Cody is not someone you can rush 100% of the time. He will make you pay.
I’ve having a big problem with my jump-ins just whiffing completely. Especially mk cross up, but even a non cross ups can whiff on crouchers. I’m trying to jump-in and start her strings but I just get thrown. Do I just need to time them better, or are the hitboxes on her jump-ins just a bit crap? I probably jump too much, but I’m not sure how else to get in with her footspeed. Trying to dash in usually leads to pain, maybe I should practice spacing the dashes better?
The other main issue I have is focus attacks. Honestly I go all scrubby and salty on this subject, frankly fuck focus attacks in this game. Especially Ryu’s. I really hate playing an entire round against constant focus fishing. Anti-air focus attacks also give me the fits, seems to give them a free escape from pressure. Any advice for best options against focus?
EX KARAKUSA
yes, that works even if you attacked & he absorbed
& as for jumpins, her HP one is the best to jump in with. her MK crossup is very weird, try to do it very late, like hitting them at their waist area & always OS throw
Yeah, her j.MK sort of sucks, especially on some characters’ hit boxes. Generally you’ll use j.HP for forward and back jumps (great air to air move), j.MK for neutral jumps and for deep, late cross-ups, and j.HK for the times you’ll need more range. Probably the worst part about crossing up is that Makoto is slow as balls, so you can’t consistently be really close to someone and back up in time to get the angle you would want.
For FAs, you can either do EX Oroshi or EX Karakusa after you’ve landed and have attacked. EX Oroshi should be used when you’re not deep enough to grab them. Ultra 1 works too. If you don’t have EX or ultra, and you attacked in air, block: her 4 frame jabs are too risky unless you’re fighting Viper or someone else with a crappy FA.
Posted about aa focus page before. But in practice even these counters aren’t too useful, best thing is to empty jump throw unfortunately, which means a little guessing sometimes…
You can do ex tsurugi too. But one bad thing is once in a while your opponents focus attack will hit in between the first and second hits of tsurugi.
I was messing around in training today, i dont know if any1 knew this already but i found out that counter hit s.hp>hf>ultra 1 is a link. And i dont know if its possible to get a meaty counter hit in a game but if it is f.mp>super>ultra works too.
Cool thanks for the advice. I practiced my mk cross up timing and set ups a bit and it’s working better. Although I think I’ll use it less than I do in free play due to the being slow as molasses thing.
Also, EX karakusa! Must have mentally blanked that moves existence, but I can see it catching people who really abuse AA focus. Will try the backdash cancel as well.
I find that ex karakusa isnt very reliable, alot of times when i try it the grab whiffs when it looks like it shouldnt and makotos arms go right through the opponent but i get no grab. That backdash st.mk > hayate is good too but why dont you use u2 vs fuerte? You can punish like everything he does on your wake up with it, am i missing something. And another thing i notice is everyone uses u1 against honda. Why? If you choose u2 and break his charge frequently that will just leave him with backdash you can punish, that sumo slam which you can bait and punish with u2 on his way down, block or orochi throw.
