Makoto Strategy and Match-ups

God I hate fighting Sakura. And Adon. All the regular AA normals do work on Sakura but there’s probably a 75% chance they’ll trade. sMK works on Duds and Vega, both. But again, it trades frequently. sMK works best if their strike point (elbow, claw) is over your head at the time, past her leg, so… close jump-ins.

Actually Sakura can 50/50 most characters with either j.hp or j.hk shunpu.
Unless you have a shoryu you probably can’t anti air both of them with the same attack.

Right on. I was just talking about jHK.

Ok i just tested it out a bit, for the horizontal hitbox jump ins (cody jump in hp and dudley jump in rh) st mk is indeed the most effective aa. As for claw, NEVER try aa normal him when he has his claw. His jump in hp beats everything, the most effective aa is lp dp. If he doesnt have his claw you can use cr mk but it will trade more often than not. So mostty try air to air or lp dp when hes got his claw. Same goes for sakura more or less, her jump in hp will beat all your aa normals, and jump in rh will trade with cr mk. So the best aa normal from far is prob st mk to have the most chance of beating jump in hp, but again rarely aa normal sak, its bad risk reward. Like claw the best aa is lp dp by far, so you wanna look for those or air to air normals the mostly.

Vs fuerte His run splashes you can FA, dash, st lk xx lp hayate punish the recovery. Try start the focus as late as possible, so you will be facing the right way if he crosses over you for a forward dash. You can also focus, slight delay, dash hk karakusa but this is not a frame tight punish just a mixup punish alternate.

For fuertes splash grabs, you can duck (have to guess here), then f+fp recovery.

for sakura and dudley, i force myself to use MP fukiage everytime they jump.

meaty FAlvl3 works against rufus too (except if he backdash…so, good use in corner), as well as boxer.
she will go under his EX messiah, and beat jump, throw and lights. (EX oroshi -> walk a bit (or kara) FAlvl3).

karakusa -> HP -> feint -> MP -> EX oroshi -> straight jump attack -> abare HK will crossup up standing/crouching shotos
karakusa -> MP*2 -> EX oroshi -> straight jump attack -> abare HK will crossup sakura.

@candeisis:
did you try my setup against cornered feilong?
EX oroshi -> backdash -> forward dash -> MK tsurugi
backthrow(put him in corner) -> MP hayate -> MK tsurugi
?

record both, and try:

  • guard (standing and crouching)
  • flame kick
  • chicken wing

you will see the result  (very funny for the second setup)

btw, does someone have a crossup MK tsurugi setup midscreen?

I tried, sometimes it auto corrects back into the corner lol but it crosses you up kinda if it does that, most times he just escaped with cw. And the stand blacking tsurugi would whiff ><. If you dont have ultra 2 or ex hayate prob couldnt punish cw escape, and if it auto corrects back into corner might even be better for him lol. Fucking fei. Nice that dp whiffs though.

meaty cr.mk os lp fukiage keeps Blanka from escaping the corner on knockdown.

meaty cr.mk os ultra beats Viper’s ex seismo and ex burning kick and is easier than the lp x2 method I’ve seen others use

never thought about using c.mk OS ultra vs viper! i’m going to try that tonight. thanks.

I wouldnt rely on it, i dont think it hits vipers back dash mid screen.

Vs chun ex sbk on block is highly punishable, f+fp can punish or st hp xx if you’re closer.

Hi. How do you do this OS? Is it in this thread. I did not see it?

does makoto have anything to reliably beat guy’s elbow (either bushin flip or reg jump)? i went into training mode and i couldn’t get anything to reliably beat it clean except fukiage, and only if i do it super early AND he lands on the fist (he can stop short and stuff it clean). you can’t jump HP him because you might eat 200 damage off the throw. it’s making that fight a living hell for me.

From my experience, a well time Cr. MK will beat it. Test it out. If timed right, it has never failed me.

Yeah cr.mk will always beat it. It’s pretty easy to fukiage it though so I just do that.

thanks for the cmk tip. i tried it in training and it was getting stuffed or trading so i guess i just need to work on my timing. fukiage doesn’t seem very reliably vs it though because he can just stop short and nail you in the face, away from fukiage’s hitbox.

Whenever he goes in the air you can buffer fukiage with d,d/f, d/df and then hit P if he goes near you. If he stops short you can sweep him and if he goes over you fuki still hits him.

there is range where he can still hit you even if you fukiage (aka stuffs the move during it’s active frames). according to the srk wiki he has no recovery frames for d+mp (normal jump attack), but 8 off the bushin flip. i’ll see if i can nail him with a normal as he lands next time i play.

The problem I’ve had with fuki vs. elbow is that I’ll occasionally just guess wrong and get bushin grabbed out of it. This may be a question of timing, though. In my experience, cr.mk is the way to be.

Also, v-ryu posted this a while back about Rufus, and it’s helped me out a lot in the match up.

Against a blocked EX messiah, if you kara throw right as he lands after the initial animation, you will:

A)Grab the sweep followup
B)Go under the overhead followup, and be in prime position to punish an otherwise safe move
C)Get nailed by a delayed belly flop followup

Still a layer of yomi there, but at least he can’t get away with that horseshit without the threat of getting one of his chins smacked off. Take it into training mode first, the timing is fairly tight. Again, this was all v-ryu, but it wasn’t under the Rufus tab, so I figured it needed repeating.

hey thanks guys. cr.mk does work quite well vs. both versions of the elbow.

Seriously, does anyone have anything on blanka? ANYTHING? I’ve read the first page but i need more than punish blanka ball with HP hayate or EX hayate, which is still good to know. I’m getting massacred even by mediocre blankas. what beat electricity besided U1 (U2 doesn’t :<)? any recommended meatys i should stay avoid in the fight ( blanka is so “spontaneous” I dont know what to do). The match were ok, but honest but those were some of the calmest blanka’s ever. If he mashes electricity,he has such good frame advantage there is nothing i can do except backdash.
