i find IAtsurugi mk version on wakeup really quite usefull for avoiding srk’s, if they backdash does it tag them for the ground combo or juggle if they have airborn backdashes? i read someone post about it making srks whiff and hitting if they decide to not srk but i haven’t had a chance to test it, so basically it only loses to FA, sounds very good. especially considering after a FFSxex-oroshi combo forces them to not block on wakeup as another karakusa = stun.
Has anyone else been having trouble landing IA tsurugi on some crouching opponents? Chun Li specifically.
EDIT: Took it to the lab. It seems you just have to be closer than usual. I’m not having problems landing it now.
People probably know already but you can stuff Honda’s headbutts on reaction with s.mp and Ultra 1.
yeah i don’t like reading the first post of stickies either
…
oh wait
um yeah, if you follow a hayate on viper with karakusa you will grab her uppercut. only happened to occur in the corners, i didn’t try mid screen.
You can EX Hayate under Blanka’s U1 when he goes airborne. Tsurugi also beats horizontal ball clean.
Makoto Strategy and Matchups
LoL don’t mess up the height.
Was fighting some would-be Thawk, here’s a fun tid-bit to learn the hard way: Don’t Ex Hayate if he does a level 3 FA from mid screen. Why he thought it was a good idea to do that, I don’t know, but apparently Thawk’s L3 FA active frames are pretty amazing. He cleanly beat out Ex Hayate after the FAs release. There was no armor hit.
Or at least just delay it a bit longer.
^^ EX Hayate doesnt have armor. Hell, it doesnt even have invincibility. Only thing different about it AFAIK is it’s faster, goes a bit further, and has juggle properties on it. I’ve been poked out of it plenty of times.
you’re misreading me. There was no armor hit on Thawk, so I know I attempted it during active frames or at least I thought during his recovery
I catched a few Ryus with iEX-Hayate, who tried to back-jump fireball. The FB went right through me, but they got hit.
Can’t tell if it was lag or just luck.
Is it always unsafe? It could be the lag but at some ranges I feel like I’m out of range for quick punishes and Often are able to block. Is that just the lag, or the opponent fucking up?
Why would you ever want to hayate a FA? Wait till the recover of the move itself or the dash. The recovery after letting go always takes ages so that’s easy enough. He’s also vulnerable during the dash. And we know Hayate loses to a LOT. And some character’s FA attack’s hitboxes are pretty damn good.
You can probably tell from experience whether your hayate is safe or not. A lot of hayates are fairly unpunishable when you combo the light version, or atleast it’s hard to reversal properly, it’s entirely character dependent. You can probably FA safely to crumple/get a free hit off them and scare them into doing nothing/reversalling/armor break which puts things in your favour if they’re bad at reversal timings.
Anyone with tips on Rose? She zones me like crazy and it seems like I can never catch her due to her great backdash. Having a really hard time punishing soul spiral as well. What do you guys do to pressure her on wakeup? Her U2 is killing me when I try to pressure her.
Blanka up ball is punishable with HP Hayate.
Blanka straight ball is punishable with Kara HP Hayate.
Both are also punishable with EX Hayate, but its probably better to not spend meter on something you can already do without.
Try counter-poking her if she’s keeping you out with normals. This has felt pretty reliable to me.
I also don’t think it’s convenient for Rose to soul throw if you tsurugi over a fireball, either. Is it? I don’t think I’ve ever had this happen unless I did something sloppy.
Then there is always the option of inching forward and neutral jumping over fireballs instead of blocking and getting pushed back. After all, if you just stay patient and creep forward, eventually she’s going to be in the corner and taking the chip damage from a few fireballs isn’t going to put you at all that bad of a disadvantage.
Has anyone found a reliable anti-air to Dudley’s elbow drop jump in? I believe it’s j.hp. Seems to take out s.mp and trades often with c.mk. I want to try furikage but, I just don’t feel like I can pop one of those out on reaction as easy as I need to.
early st.mk is what i use vs dudleys j.hk.
LP Furikage is what I use. Sometimes I pay for it, but most of the time I don’t.
If Rose does U2 on wake up, if you had Karakusa thrown out when she’s getting up, she will still get choked and lose her orbs. She’s not invincible in U2 at all.
I was fighting a Dhalsim the other day, and I was doing HP -> Hayate -> Karakusa loop shenanigans when on one rep he decided to reversal with his fireball ultra. Karakusa went right through the fireball and grabbed him anyway, fireball traveled through Makoto for 0 damage.
