Has anyone tried using ultra 2 as an anti air? And for people who just jump back? I know it probably gets beaten clean if the opponent does a jumping attack, but I have caught a few scrubs with it.
Oh and don’t pick ultra 2 against Gouken. activates ultra 2gets hit out of ultra 2 by diagonal fireball
wow after a shitload of games tonight I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m one of the worst Maks on PSN :sad:
I basically get shit on by Dictator, Abel, Guile, Chun, Sim, and Rufus.
What are you guys doing in any of these matchups? Especially Dictator. How the fuck can you possibly win that match? His pokes are better. He can dance in and out of Mak’s footsie range. He can pressure her all fucking day. His air to air is better. Does Mak have to turtle this match?!?! I cant even keep pressure if he is knocked down. Why do people say he sucks on wakeup? There must be some MAJOR shit I’m missing because all I see are tons of escape options for him.
I’m really at wit’s end with Mak. The past few days have been nothing but frustrations and I’m really fucking close to just dropping her. Way too many deficiencies in her design. I’ve never felt so helpless in so many matchups.
What are you guys doing against people that endlessly spam low jabs? I went into training mode and had Ryu spam low spams at max speed. The only move I found to be somewhat reliable was d+FP - which is nice because it knocks down and all - but this move tends to get beat out at very close range. Every normal and non-ex-special I tried either gets beaten outright by low jabs or will occasionally trade if I am lucky. Most depressingly, it seems you cannot do instant air axe kick - I tried doing this for a long time and it would get beaten out 70% of the time, trade at 20% (not helpful when I am going for IA mk to get the combo/ultra/stun), and outright win only 10% of the time.
Am I missing something critical here? I know EXACTLY what my opponent is going to do (spam low jabs) and I cannot do anything about it most of the time. If I am in perfect range for d+FP I can do that into wakeups I guess - but what about close range? What about when you are just outside of d+FP range? I know I can ex-karakusa up close and ex-oroshi within range. … but why do I have to burn meter when I know what they are going to do?
Have you guys found optimal low jab counters at different ranges? Sometimes I throw out standing HK at range and hope for a trade - sometimes standing MP beats crouching jab up close - but not always …
If there is some solid stuff I can do against low jab spam I would feel MUCH, MUCH better about my Makoto game.
You haven’t seen me in action, I even struggle against the flowchart army. And there is a tournament comming up next week, where I plan to attend with my mak…fun included.
Yeah it works pretty great. Jump back is a little bit difficult but you can beat a lot of neutral and jump ins. It can also catch jump backs if you just wait until they drop again. the point is getting the angle correct.
Dude, If he’s got time to hadoken he’s at in neutral, which means he could’ve also blocked and ultra’d you right back. be glad it was just a fireball.
And if he was charging already. let’s hope you guessed right and he committed to a horizontal FB.
@bronzefist
I’m probably just playing scrubs but aside from Guile I haven’t had the smack the controller against the wall kind of frustration. I also mained Sakura before so I’m kinda used being limited in my tools and work twice as hard to get in.
@robbes
Flowcharts are the worst for Makoto. Her whole game is build around teaching your opponent one thing and then changing it up to keep them guessing. An unteachable flowchart is the worst opponent. You just have to turtle a bit and punish those flaming balls with a fukiage (or sumthing else)
Yeah, I had trouble against the flow chart army, but just keep practising with her and eventually she clicks. Just NEVER pick ultra 1 against a projectile character.
Yea I know. Part of me is stubborn as hell and I hate having to give up a character I put so much time into thus far. I can’t blame the character completely though, as there are ALOT of aspects that I need to improve on as a player (throw techs, better punishment for whiffed/blocked moves, being less jumpy, reading the opponent better, etc). I think that playing Mak puts a huge magnifying glass on the missing aspects of my own game, since she doesn’t have truley reliable anti air, she doesn’t have a very good reversal, she doesn’t have ways to escape wakeup pressure etc. So yea ultimately it’s probably me who needs to level the fuck up, but she still has shitty matchups
lol you and me both dude. They can be so random that I often have to resort to turtling instead of being offensive. The random SRKs, random tatsus (which AWALYS hit me when I’m doing a FA). Jump forward HK, jump back HK. Mashed SRKs through my block strings. Mashed SRKs before my EX Oroshi hits. Mashed SRK during Karakusa tick attempts. :annoy:
What’s really embarrasing is that I ran into a Juri player who did nothing but run into her corner and did jump back (and neutral jump) roundhouse. Wtf can I do against that? She jumps so high that my air to airs weren’t working. Dash into fukiage was too slow. I need to get into practice mode and see wtf is up, cause I had no aswer for it in game. Anyone know?
Yeah, Ultra 2 may not be a good idea in that matchup simply because even if you catch him, you may eat an angled hadouken. Juri can do the same with her angled projectile, so I’m thinking about going U1 on her as well (Also the fact that her fireball recovers at near sonic boom speeds).
Well if thats how you feel keep playing as her and level your game up by playing a turtle makoto punishing the opponents mistakes whilst slowly walking in.
you want to avoid doing focus attacks vs characters with easy armour breakers or characters who can cancel into specials easily. vs chargers like blanka and bison you can FA if they have no charge, but vs ryu or sagat you’re best served by not doing it at all. now i use FA as a defensive measure when i see someone else FA and other than that i dont use it too much.
IATsurugi with the hk version actually has rediculous range and even on trade it is always in your favour, its so useful vs fireballs. i keep screwing up the command and doing a jump kick by accident, its what costs me more matches than anything else.
to stop jump back hk you can just kara hp fukiage, or if thats too fast st.mk or cr.mk would work.
st.mp works best vs jump attacks that will hit you with the tip of their feet. cr/ st.mk for normal ranged jumps and lp fukiage for dee/crossup jumps.
Well, I always pick ultra one against Juri. As soon as you see her raise her leg to charge a fireball you can just ex hayate her. Also, I’ve realised it’s probably best to pick ultra one for guile as well, it’s almost impossible to catch a good guile with ultra 2.
Fought a Sagat recently that stuffed my U2 with his s.FK. I thought I caught him by baiting him to do something so he did s.HK and it stuffed my U2. Sagat’s TK also stops U2. Annoying that she loses invincibility on the way down but have to work with what she got.
What do you guys consider to be Mak’s best option after a blocked Hayate? Really pathetic that such an offensive move, for al intents and purposes, can be such a momentum killer.
Fun fact: On wake up, doing an EX Oroshi, I lose to L2 FA from Ryu.
Simply amazing how my armor breaking and reversal move are not working as intended. Or maybe “it’s just my timing”. =/
Basically this. Unless you can hit confirm from 2 s.lp or 2 s.mp or you landed a choke (and pray you don’t get a lag spike and screw up the timing), there’s no other purpose to using Hayate.
Who knows? Maybe Mak will get some ninja buffs here shortly with the first patch. Also, I probably just jinx’d it for all of us. My bad.
Is there some video evidence of this “trick”? I’ve tried IAT from all angles when Ryu is waking up and DP always hits me out of it. If I cross up then the game changes directions for Ryu automatically. I’ve tried the “backthrow, back up a bit, IAT” in training mode a million times over and can’t get it to work.
