Makoto Strategy and Match-ups

Nice thread so far, good suggestions. The hardest part about playing Makoto right now is learning these matchups.

LP Fukiage stuffs Vega walldives clean. LP Fukiage beats Bison devil reverse as well.

Anyone have some tips on dealing with Cammy and Rufus dive spammers? EX oroshi works sometimes, but it’s not very reliable. I haven’t tried doing EX karakusa yet, but maybe?

Backdash mashing during their blockstrings may work, not sure if their divekick hits the backdash, but being that low and quick it shouldn’t. Other than that and ex kara it’s part of their rushdown so that’s makoto for you i guess verse them.

lp fukiage trades with point blank rufus dive kick (i’m not sure if they were doing it perfectly, but it looked pretty low), you can follow up to win the trade pretty well

idk about cammy

Backdash isn’t a good idea vs. competent players because they can still hit her out of it anyway since they recover fast enough (i.e. Rufus is fast enough to re-dive kick to catch her, etc.). EX Karakusa is really iffy and only works if they do their dive kick deep enough, otherwise Makoto will just grab air and she dies. :wasted:

Best way to deal with dive kicks is to block or early s.MP to stuff it out IMO. LP Fukiage could work too, even if it trades it’s in your favor.

What the fuck does Makoto do vs Blanka…

s.mp? All I have done for now, haven’t played any Blanka’s that have forced me to go to anything else. . .he jumps I hit him out the air and do it some more honestly

All I gotta say is…Chun owns Makoto fo free. FO FREE!!!

A friend of mine was giving me major problems with his Honda. It’s incredibly hard to get in on that mofo. And once you’re there, Oicho makes me not really sure if I wanna stay there. Also headbutt destroyed my whole oki. If I mix up, I’d get hit, it’s hard to punish on block and if I jump he’ll just get away and I have to get through the whole shitstorm again. The only thing that worked was a crossup, but even then you can’t really combo if he did headbutt, because he’s reset. And buttslam will screw your crossup anyways.

Maybe your Makoto… I’ve beaten several Chuns with Makoto. It wasn’t easy, but Makoto certainly wasn’t free for them…

Try to find ninjaCW video of his vs chun matches, you’ll get many pointers from them.

I really cannot stand the damn Guile and Sagat matchups…

If guile does a FB on wake up and tries to hit u after…Just St.Hk it works really well against him As far as the sagat match up…Its really FUCKING ANNOYING!

Yeah Ninja CW came to our first weekly ranbat in Baltimore and he was doing some damage with Makoto. If that was any indication Makoto will be alright in Super. Her game probably won’t be as karakusa based as the last game but her normals are still solid and she’ll most likely be scary to deal with if she knocks her opponent down.

Against Sagat, pick U2 and sit back a bit and build meter/ultra by absorbing and dodging fireballs with Axe kicks. If he’s retarded, you’ll get a free U2. If he’s not retarded, you’ll get him to come at you and you can have a much more even match. Sadly, I’ve landed 3 U2 in a single round because one Sagat was really… really not that bright. Also remember to use forward IA axe kicks. Any wake up SRK from Sagat and you get a free punish, otherwise he’ll be in block/hit stun from your axe kick, so work on it from there.

I haven’t had much of a chance to try to use IA axe kicks on Guile. Any confirmation of them being effective?

I think you mean this video?

Maybe that’s why I’m having such a hard time with Chun. I don’t mind if Makoto doesn’t play like her former 3s self, but at this point I cannot stand to just be that patient, almost to the point of turtling with Makoto. It’s like a complete 180 of why I fell in love with her playstyle to begin with.

I’m getting owned with Bisons… just in general :[ plz helpzorsz

fukiage those head stomp/devils reverse attempts… beats it like a mofo…

knock him down and use her wake-up/mixup on him… he lacks a good way out cept blocking right… which can be tricky. If he figures stuff out and starts blocking right as the standard… karakusa time… he’ll be good for at least 1 setup almost instantly.

Backthrow blocked psycho crusher or slide… it leads to KD + the above…
