Is anyone having a lot more trouble against cody ?
his new crack kick avoid ex karakusa, beats ex oroshi, catch backdash.
crLK > LP tornado is a safe 3 frame punish against axekick, so even if he guess wrong we have no punish for it ( beats jumping again, backdashing )
Depending on the pushback, could you not punish a blocked tornado with f.lp > ex fuki? That’s a 3-frame punish. Forgive me for not checking on Cody’s data before replying. I’m lazy.
If he’s blocking / anticipating your axe kick, hit him with empty jump > ex grab to blow through his cr.lk. or you can do the plink axe kick to alter your trajectory and mix him up from there? I’ve not fought many cody’s in Ultra. Just an endless parade of Hugos…
I’m thinking if you do a HK IAT from farther away then FA backdash the cr. lk, you’d be able to punish the criminal upper with cr. mp x special since it would whiff and you could catch the recovery without worrying about the blockstun.
Do you have any footage you can upload? I don’t think the matchup is that different he’s just a lil more safe on certain things. Would love to help you out.
Damn. I always panic when the head stomps fly in. The speed from the EX means I find it hard to react to with Fuki and the chip damage is huge.
What sort of frame traps can we use against a good bison? After blocking a jump in or lv.1 focus attack, he always managed to cr.lk me into a string. I’ll upload some replays later, but I swear I’ve not struggled so much against a charge player in a long time.
This match up is really all about not letting him control space like he wants to.
If he’s onto you in crLK range, you really just have to respect him until you can get him out.
I abuse a bit too much of stHK after blocking LK Scissor, beats a bunch of follow up but can be baited. But it’s a nice way to make them stay honest sometimes.
For headstomps, you can dash out of them, he has no tracking on it. You can also Ultra 2 it on block everytime ( can be hard if they do the Devil reverse after it and do the "go behind, go back front " to fuck up your inputs, but you can Fuki them out of that.
I always pick W ultra against Bison nowadays to punish headstomp and devil reverse full screen for meter build. Also punish some psycho crusher stuff from point blank.
I had a question does anyone find gouken kinda difficult to play against? I played a guy at our local casuals where i stay i couldn’t play him in a long set but it seems like it’s sightly in his favor.
I’ve always felt gouken MU is slightly in mak’s favor actually. It really depends on what type of gouken you’re playing against, since he can be played fairly well zoning or rushdown. The best goukens can switch styles quickly. I remember getting owned by Veloc1raptor a few times on PC, wish I could track him down and play a long set sometime, I haven’t played too many great goukens, so yeah…
The worst part is getting in on him. Just slowly walk him down, tsurugi/jump/FA through fireballs. His mid range normals are very poor against mak, so once you hit that range be prepared for him to forward dash grab, sweep, or go for st. hp into demon flip grab or something similar. Gouken’s forward dash is among the fastest in the game, don’t underestimate it.
Once you get gouken in the corner though, it’s a nightmare for him. His only two reversals, ex tatsu and ex demon flip are really easy to beat. If you back dash early and he does ex demon flip, you can just uppercut him for a full combo. If he tatsus you can almost get a fully charged focus to punish. And if he counters a lot you can just choke him. A lot of Goukens will try to counter jump ins on their wake up, if he starts doing that just empty jump karakusa him.
Gouken’s close range pressure can be kinda daunting sometimes. His back throw is 5 frames instead of the normal 3, which makes it slower than other normal throws so you have to tech it later than normal. His frame traps revolve around fishing for counter hits with cl. mp. He does do a lot of damage if he gets started and he does have a few bothersome setups with demon flip throw. I know he has a fairly easy unblockable in AE off a backthrow too (still no ultra on PC -_-.) As long as your defense is on point though, there isn’t much gouken can do. I feel Mak’s momentum is harder to deal with on Gouken’s side than the reverse.
Meaty oroshi are good because they beat counter and recover in time against EX Deminflip
They used to make EX Tatsu whiff too, which was amazing, but not anymore
yeah, I’d say that the gouken mu has gotten a little more difficult with the buff to the ex tatsu. I say it’s still in maks favor, you just gotta bait the tatsu now if anything, st lk works great in that situation rather than backdash. I agree with noocta, his neutral jump hp is a pain! a lot of gouken players abuse this, that’s when I dash up fuki…
