Unfortunately not every forum has a good player who is willing to take the time to actually write something.
Really, I don’t mind that it traded because no invincibility. But from the looks of it, the trade did zero damage to opponent. That is a pretty big issue.
-Backthrow, forward.jump attack, cr.MK(meaty)->Ultra1
-cr.MK will combo into Ultra1
Obviously the only thing that will beat a meaty is backdashes or invincible reversals. However thanks to the crossup, a lot of charge characters’ reversals aren’t available, and thanks to cr.MK hurtbox, some reversals will whiff.
It works SO well on DJ
LK and MK upkicks will whiff. The Ultra will autocorrect to the other side and punish
He can only EX.upkicks you out of it.
Doesn’t cr.mk meaty make all of DeeJay’s upkicks whiff? It’ll also be very useful vs. Honda as buttslam will whiff on the way up.
Anyway, with that set-up you can substitute cr.mk for f+mp which shares the same last active frame (13th frame) as cr.mk and also moves you closer to your opponent and I think, gives you an extra frame to play with.
I’ve also had some success with jump fwd atk into f+lk kara-mk karakusa when they start sitting still.
How you guys feel about the Seth matchup now? I always felt Seth was slightly in Makoto’s favor. You’d think with all his invincible moves, reversals, and dive kick - command throw shenanigans it wouldn’t be but the fact he has such low health, and his dive kick is a little easier to handle than Rufus/Yun/Yang makes it easier. Plus his focus attack is the perfect range where you can backdash as Makoto and punish it when it whiffs her if you time it well. And Makoto is one of the best characters for punishing teleports so he loses that option on wakeup.
I think with how many Seths are showing up now, despite the nerfs to Makoto she may end up being a good tournament character not just because of her still being very solid, but because of the metagame favoring her in a number of popular characters for 2012. Though Cammy and Ryu are going to be annoying to fight, she still has even matchups against Abel and she destroys Dhalsim still.
Its important to get into an opponent’s head so here’s what they’re thinking when they see you pick Makoto. Found this hilarious.
From another forum:
Makoto = Random Hayate all day.
Makoto: Pro
Makoto: "Breath of fresh air! I’m gonna get bodied or he’s a free win. "
Makoto, tier whore who doesnt want to be that much of a tier whore, tho he still is.
Makoto = Oh so you hopped onto the butterface train now that she got overbuffed did you?
Makoto - NEVER underestimate.
Makoto - NEVER underestimate.
Makoto = Where were you in Super? Oh that’s right, until Japan says shes top tier you wont touch her eh?
Makoto = jump around, press random normals and do random specials.
…Makoto…- Fuck this shit I quit
Makoto: The fuck is a walk? Wakeup U2 if you’re standing right next to them.
Makoto: Respectful. Nothing too cheap with her. A fun match.
Makoto: They always go for a grab -> ultra, always jump if close even if you have eaten two combos before.
Makoto: decent, decent player. probably asian
Makoto : Watch out for random Ultra 2
anyone got any ideas against vega/claw?
-Be patient and dont mash.
-s.HK during your block strings
-get your fuki game up
-easy to XU Tsurugi
-s.HK all rolls
-block EX wall dive, jump towards j.MP to beat it
–dash Karakusa will grab
–U2 will hit for full animation
-I think you can MP Fuki blocked DP
-keep the pressure on. There’s not much he can do once he is in the corner
Also remember, right after you block the forward hop kick move, do an instant tsurugi, 99% of the claw players mash grab after it…lol
I’ve lost quite a few career matches to opponents who spam some standard move or trap and because i don’t know the escape, the can exploit me. So I suggest that added to the character match ups we include those annoying traps that that character may have. For example, dictators stand round house is so annoying it has its own name (something like the boot from HELL or something), I was given advice to use crouch forward to beat it and it works. There are so many more out there though that if you don’t know the escape then you die. I posted the escape from the Dan loop, but is there one from dictators scissors kick, crouch short, loop? What about akuma f+ round house, crouch strong, etc. I think we lower guys could benefit from specific escapes from spammed crap.
Also what about standard block strings characters use. For example dee jay using crouch jab twice then crouch forward for the sweep, well the crouch forward can be ex grabbed. The other characters block strings may be vulnerable as well (i know that means its not a real block string but people do it anyway) so knowing which ones can be grabbed would be great. I can do the lab work if I’m provided with the block strings people do
Bison’s s.HK=“The Kick of Oppression.” In fact, everytime i use it on my friend he makes me say “oppressed,” lol. And s.HK beats that loop. It hits the c.LK after SC.
c.MK beats akuma’s s.HK. Also if you are starting to get your distance down, throw NJ HK Tsurugi from about 1/3 screen away. It’ll smack him everytime. I promise he’ll stop. Or he’ll die lol. IMO that’s not the biggest problem from akuma especially in 2012 (didn’t it get nerfed?)
Re: Dee Jay - there is a 2 frame gap between blocked c.LP and c.MK. IMO you should just block. but you can backdash it. Can’t jump though (need 4 frames). I think you can EX Oroshi 2f gaps but i’m not sure. Most you can really hope for is a trade and that’s a bad idea due to the knock down.
I’m posting a FT10 tonight fighting a 20,000 BP Dee jay. It’ll show you how to beat him. It’ll also show you how to lose to him lol. But mostly how to beat him :). But definitely how to lose too. :). Even though I win.
…
and lose.
thanks for your response but Im hoping to get info on all characters not just the examples I mentioned. Maybe some characters have no exploitable block strings (cody?) maybe some characters have no spamable loops, but I’d like to hear from all 39 characters.
Another example- the standard Guile, throw a boom, walk forward and fierce. I learned how to escape that from watching that Daigo vs lamberboi match so its not scary to me, but to the uninformed, that can be a nightmare…
hold up… you saying that after a dictator scissor kick I can just hit roundhouse??? that doesnt even make any sense to me with out trying it. I mean isnt his crouch short 3 frames? How the hell can roundhouse beat that?
And you saying that after akuma hit you with forward roundhouse you can press crouch forward and it will beat his crouch strong??? or after crouch strong then press crouch froward to beat the forward roundhouse???
(and now back to the regularly scheduled programming)
…I now completely understand how important spacing is to prevent the opponent from getting in, but once he is in, we need escapes from the bs. Its like the very new who fall for mashing dp, it seems there is NO solution, until you come to this forum and learn to bait. So the same with other loops. Didnt happen to me but I saw f-champ get someone in the corner and do stand short (?) then yoga flame over and over and it seemed like no escape. Im sure there is one but if I end up in the corner like that, its lights out for me : (
The biggest challenge about dealing with SK pressure is that the ball’s in his court, mainly because of delayed walk back SK. It’s not as simple as c.MK, c.LK, and s.HK beat his buttons, sadly. A good Dictator will whiff punish s.HK after looking for an AA. The best thing to do is neutral jump/jump back after a second if that’s how he’s playing it.
Yep, you can EX Oroshi c.LP, c.MK.
I’ll be watching that! Any c.MK OS U1 in there?
Ah couldn’t finish getting it rendered. And yeah one attempt and fail on OS U1 if I remember correctly. Meaty oroshi and regular oroshi were killing him man so I stuck with those. He got scared to do anything on wake up and just started getting caught by everything in the book. Good matches.
Also if Dic is abusing s.HK a lot a couple of focus>dash>back throw (setup city!) can help. I’m still having trouble with bison in tournaments… But doing much better than before.
I’ll try to get that vid up tonight.
yes, if they push any buttons just after a scissors kick, sHK will CH him. It’s because of the pushback from SC. It is Dificult to time but it does work. Like Robo said though, that’s not his only option. Him delaying sHK beats your options. Even beats IAT. IMO makoto has to be just as patient with him as anyone else. So my advice? BLOCK. Don’t hit anything. Let him do his thing and you take those SC block strings. The block damage is nothing compared to what makoto can do to him after a KD. Got to be patient.
About akuma, no I meant that cMK beats s.HK on reaction. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING after blocking sHK. Try to get out of there. Again here, patience is key.
I still have no respect for Sim as Makoto. Don’t know why. Pringles
Anyone got any tips for dealing with Rose’s U2, Soul Satellite? Is there anything that beats it? As all I can seem to do is go on the defensive and wait for the player to waste the energy balls on my blocks…
You can meaty it now. If your opponent gets it while standing, yeah, you basically have to block. The 3 typical ways a Rose will approach after is with her slide, a raw Soul Spiral, or jumping. c.HP beats the slide and SS if timed right (read: lucky) to get through the orbs.
Damn I hate E.Honda :’(
Is there something we can do after a blocked non-ex headbut except ex-hayate ?
Also, I had huge difficulties with his wake-up game when they tend to random sumo splash… (I think I should just s.mp or s.mk then focus if I see one)
what are you plans when you get a knockdown on honda?
And I’m completely stuck with the zoning, I can’t really poke since he can random headbut, so most of the time I try to safe jump and jb.chp
what do you usually do ?
I think I should poke with c.mk more in middle range, and only s.mp at max range?
(I still play on AE so far, hope 2012 will help with the dash buff)
Lost 5 straight to a Honda using continuous sumo splashes. I feel your pain
Hey Dlieu! Saw you on the leaderboards while I was looking through replays, you’ve got a great mak!
I can’t really help ya with the honda match-up, I lose to terrible ones just like McGowan does. There is this video though that vryu released awhile back that covers some useful OSes though:
OSes vs Honda
Thanks!
Well I didn’t remember that video (sick video as usual :p), but I have to say that I’m really uncomfortable with the begining (when v-ryu punish lk/ex sumo slash by waiting on the opponent wakeup), I find it way too much risky to wait without doing nothing, but maybe it’s just me (Is there a trick in case he throws (delayed counter throw? (how do you do that safely anyway?) / oicho throw), the option select after the ex-oroshi setup is great though
What frustrate me the most in this matchup is that I can’t really use footsies against Honda
