I still think Magneto is really strong so far. He still builds better meter and does more damage. A this point air X-factor is gonna be the thing that makes or breaks Storm. It really depends on how much mileage she can get outta that, but I see it being quite powerful in theory.
Your missing the point, it takes time for these kinds of things to be decided and a select few people have had the game for less than a week while the general public haven’t even touched it yet, theres barely any video footage of the new storm and we still don’t have any of her new frame date. We barely know anything about her new move.
you can x-factor her new moves. Holy balls funny. She seems insanely faster in this game too.
I wish they gave the wind moves to Storm only, if only to give people another incentive to choose her over magneto. But nah, they just HAD to give it to the one character that people already deemed better than her.
From what I’ve seen it works abit different from magneto, it pulls / push characters better…
I wonder if it works on active assists too, could be nice if it does work.
Been in training mode and UMVC3 Storm doesn’t really seem faster. Well, she does seem faster when she air wave dashes. I’m happy that almost all her old loops are intact. Maximillian said they were but I had my doubts, but all the old go to bnb’s have been working for me so far. Interestingly enough, Lightning Storm has had a graphical change. It looked different in the streams of the past few months but I just attributed that to bad quality. But it really is different. I think it looks less impressive than it did in vanilla. Superficialty aside, it appears unchanged. Now with mashing involved in supers I think Storm does acceptable damage. You no longer have to struggle just to crack 600K anymore. Fair and Foul Wind are REALLY fun! I forsee lots of nasty mixups and salty opponents.
Also you can’t air Xfactor out of Elemental Rage. I know it’s a cinematic but since it’s not a level three, I thought you might be able to. Nor does it appear you can mash ER for additional hits/damage despite the Capcom changelog saying you could.
Well thats both nice to hear and disappointing, least she didn’t get nerfed but I would have liked something we could hit training mode with. Some new combos or something, but I guess we shouldn’t be complaining. Hopefully fair and foul wind prove to be integral parts of her gameplay although of the top I can’t think of anything, but hopefully time will tell.
wong uses storm to ridiculously crazy effect in maximillians newest umvc3 vid (ep.4) towards the end. justin tears an asshole in max and then james chen. his storm was looking insanely fast. justins air footsies are ridiculous.
he used tatsu assist. and basically used that assist to setup the following blockstring/hitconfirms:
c.L.+a1,c.m (tatsu assist comes in and either hits or puts opponent in blockstun) if the c.L got pushblocked justin woul triangle dash in for the mixup. he kept running that string all day.
his string against incoming opponents:
j.h +tatsu xx airdash j.h
if either hit gets pushblocked or blocked in the air the opponent is forced to block tatsu as they land. at which point justin would tridash in and cr.L or instant overhead s hitconfirm. REALLY hard to block. chen got out by mashing backthrow as soon as he landed… really smart, but barely slowed justin down.
the only other pattern i really saw that seemed super obvious yet useful was justins setup for raw hailstorms:
superjump crossup addf land on other side of opponent backdash +tatsu, then hailstorm.
he caught a whole bunch of assists like that. nasty damage.

Yea that was beautiful to watch, I wonder if he is still gonna run the same team since, well none of them really got nerfed. Only difference is he lost the DHC glitch but other than that the team still looks intact. Btw for any not in the loop this is the video we are referring to, fast forward to about 15 minutes in.
The notation I believe is cr. :l: :h: jc :h: land cr. :h: jc :h: :s: dash cancel :h: land :s: air magic series hyper.

That video also confirms things that I’ve experienced so far. Mainly that doing a bnb combo->Hailstorm->X-factor hailstorm in level one XFC is really not worth it. The damage seems quite bad and more often than not you’ll actually get better damage with a regular combo-.>hailstorm, than you would by tacking on an extra X-factor hailstorm. They weren’t kidding when they said level 1 XFC was gimped. Also it seems really hard, if not impossible to get a combo going after you X-Factor out of hailstorm and attempt to combo again. At least i haven’t been able to get anything going They either recover too fast or are knocked away. Disappointing. So far seems like its only real advantage is trying to position yourself to better mix up your opponent, which is fine, but still…
And I really can’t get anything outta Foul Wind so far. I haven’t been able to find good setups yet. It’s fun to call an assist(beam or otherwise) and then Foul Wind the opponent into smacking right into it, but with the new assist value changes, it again is hard to capitalize on it and get a combo going. Otherwise it’s a very risky move to do, as I’ve blown myself up a few times by carelessly using it. But then again none of Storm’s moves are spammable, each one should only ever be used in extremely specific situations, so I’m sure one will come up for me to utilize as the game evolves.
curious to see how the storm threads will blow up soon. It has only been the same few people posting here and there since mvc3 1st came out.

Yea Im enjoying the new storm, was playing around with her fair and foul wind moves yesterday, haven’t found any solid ideas yet but I have a few running through my head. It definitely looks like it will be match-up dependent though, doesn’t look like a move you wanna be throwing out against teleporters, I usually use it to put my opponent in position to block drones and then I dash in and mix em up. On the topic of drones actually, been considering moving storm to a different team but off the top I can’t think of anything that seems as effective. How do y’all feel about storm and dr doom? Maybe run her with that molecular shield or something.
This idea came up in the Chun-Li threads but it could work with any durable assist; You can call the assist, then use fair wind to pull them in and get hit by the assist or mix them up. Then follow up with a combo.
Is there another good assist that helps storm get in besides akuma’s? I have been trying to create a team that would include stom but havent found anything on my own but after watching justin play, im most def comfortable with having storm and wesker on a team together im just not that interested in using akuma.
Frank shopping cart, capt with charging star, sentinel assists. I think there is a lot. Just a matter of who you prefer to play
