Maintenance on a closed box joystick

I started a new joystick some times ago but now I’m worried about a little issue: If I made a closed box, meaning that the whole bottom and sides are sealed and that the top panel sits inside the side walls, kinda like byrdo’s stick (http://www.byrdo.org/Album65.htm), how can the maintenance be done? Don’t have anything to grab on to be able to pull it out, only the stick but that would be a bad idea pulling on the stick to get the panel out.

If the top slips into the case and you use screws to set it in place you should have nothing to worry about. Undo the screws and use the joystick handle to pull the top out of the case. Just make sure you don’t seal the top in place or you won’t be able to open the case without doing damage.

Yeah, I think that would be the best thing to do… cus at first, I didn’t want to use screws to hold the top panel in place so I made it pretty tight. I guess I’ll just sand down a bit more on the sides.

More ideas?

I make mine with a removable bottom panel instead of the top. This way most of my cases don’t have visible screws where it counts.

Yeah, I kinda figured that out also, but after this box was done, so that will be for the next one
