only vs other decks.
elf deck loses MOST easily to fire starter deck, it’s completely free.
and if tezzeret’s deck was playable, that’d be a strong counter too. those flying artifacts absolutely rape elves.

i’d love to see MTG: Battlemage from ps1 released on PSN…OMG that would be amazing
okay after playing this for 2 days, it’s come to light that it’s impossible to play versus those who bought the DLC expansion 3 pack unless you have DLCs yourself. such a scam. the pre-expansion decks are garbage in comparison.
Yeah but nobody uses fire starter deck
I agree it’s a scam, but I would say elf and mono black can beat any deck including expansions, even without their extra expansion cards
i cant speak for black, but from my play vs you, since i only have the regular nonDLC elf pack, vs your red/blue expansion 3 pack, elf has no chance unless its lucky with the draw, which is what happened the first game vs you. it has like 2 forest champions, 1 magistrate, and 1 imperious for buffs. thats IT (coat of arms doesnt count because it doesnt count as a buff until you have at least 3-4 elves in play that havent been decimated yet) and elves absolutely cannot win without buffs, not including giant growth and overrun (only 1).
compare that to the red/blue expansion 3 deck:
there are so many ways red/blue would win. 1 chain reaction would destroy all the elves on the field without buffs, cancels and deprives and dispels outnumber all the buffs in the starter elf deck, and gelectrodes destroy the most likely buff that the elves would get - elf champion.
elves DESPERATELY need the droves card from DLC3, nissa’s chosen, and the extra magistrate to even compete evenly.
however, after seeing the vampire deck in play, i’d assume that could counter red/blue quite well, especially with all those discard tokens and several rack artifacts.
Hmm…will I keep getting my butt kicked by people using elf without those expansion 3 cards so that’s all I have to go by If firemind doesn’t have the perfect starting hand, you can get me down past half life before I can even start my game.
I started out with mono black (regular) as my main deck and I could take pretty much everyone (although vampire was tough since black negates black for most things). I only switched to firemind because no one uses it (whereas I was always fighting vampire or mono black) and it’s pretty fun.
it’s pretty hard for elves to do more than 10 damage before you get a kiln’s fiend or a boar out though. once you get a creature out, i feel like the only thing elves can do is wait for a mistake and punish. and if you get a flying creature out, it’s gg.
easy tactic vs elves: stick out anything with at least 1 damage asap. cancel the imperious perfect (only 1), deprive the magistrate, and deprive the forest champion. then put up ONE flying creature and you win, no joke. if the elves player is lucky with draws he will get desperate and put out jagged archer and if you’ve been doing your job with gelectrode, he wont’ have any elves on the battlefield, so jagged archer will be 1/1 or 2/2. get rid of it with gelectrode>sorcery>gelectrode and you’ve won.
i think red/blue is much better in 1v1 than in 3 or 4 player matches though. not enough creatures.
yeah but the thing is, that it would be nice if all that strategy you wrote actually mattered in a game, but it really doesn’t, because at the end of the day half your games you’re going to lose automatically because you either have only mana or no mana in your hand
/bitter
found some new strategies. elves is really easy to beat now. vampire deck still seems to be pretty strong. those nighthawks are fast and strong to bring out. and there are a lot of them in the deck.
so nobody else except gorath plays this?
i got the game just hit me up on psn and get some games on also i would love to have a 3-4 player battle.
hit me up on psn as well!
Me too i have u as a friend … ill hit u up when i c online playiin… and yeah that vampire deck is pretty strong
