Lights/Heater/air play into our costs too, though. YOu can’t ignore that.
When we go into C3, we use all of that, but more importantly (from a realistic pricing perspective), we keep him from doing any other business that day. The cost to run the place (any overhead, and any specifics needed for tournament day) HAVE to be covered by us. David’s not gonna do it just to be nice. He’s a businessman. He can’t just take the hit.
Now, realistically, I imagine that Saturdays wouldn’t be too profitable for him anyway, given his business model, but that’s just speculation. Still, you can’t expect him to just pass the savings on, because he’d have taken a loss anyway.
Schools can afford to rent out rooms for free because their overhead is paid for via tuition, grants, donations, etc. David runs a small, for-profit, non-subsidized business. I think he’s being very fair.
If we want to save a little money, someone can look into the school idea, but I don’t have a relatinship with any area schools, so I don’t know how it’d all go.
Personally, I think David has been an amazing asset and friend to the community, so I wouldn’t want to leave.
y arcades? y? y did you have to die? u monsters!
also i heard through the grapevine and on the streets that someone got angry sat morning and smashed a tv at c3. is this true? thats one less tv. peeps need to stop smashing tv’s. not cool. if you are not good at rockband there is no need to smash a tv.
I :lovin: C3. Maybe there’s “a better way” out there but David takes care of us good and I’ll gladly pay for the venue with what he does for us. There’s definitely worse out there.
Lights, heater, and air conditioning are sunk costs for him; he pays them whether we show up or not, because he’s open on Saturdays anyway. The only marginal cost he has to pay when we come is for electricity, and sometimes he doesn’t even have to pay opportunity costs, since (like this last time) other people still sometimes show up to play computer games in the small room. I’m not saying we should be there for free, I’ll gladly pay for useful services, but for the services he gives us, which do not include nearly as many consoles and tvs as we need, I don’t think we should be paying $8. If he’s going to charge us as much as he does, I think we need to ask him to provide what we need for our tournaments to work.
I’ve looked into the school thing at my school before. Give me a date a month or two in advance, and I’ll lock the up the entire top floor of a 12-story building for free. Parking isn’t great at my school, but it’s passable, and in any case we can probably get students at schools with better parking to do the same thing.

I wouldn’t consider those sunk costs at all. They are overhead costs that would be paid for under normal business practices. There’s no reason to think they’re just given though.
