MAD CATZ Tournament Edition Sticks, Gone for Good?

Where can I find the TE2 or TES nowadays new at a decent price? I know the company closed doors a few months ago, but is there any possibility of a restock anywhere?

If not, are there any high end sticks out now with really easy and extensive art customization options?

eBay, Amazon, Trading Outlet

Also, the previous TE’s are cheap and plentiful and easily customisable also, you just gotta swap in a pcb

you said TE2 and reasonable[price] in the same sentence… LOL

Not worth it.

TE2+ is worth every penny. It’s a very reliable sturdy arcade controller. I have a hitbox panel in mine with EZ Mod and Brook UFB and I love it. It’s just as good as my Panzer hitbox in terms of feel on my lap and just using it in general.

te2 are not worth seeking for if you just need a fightstick.
too heavy for me to have in my backpack for events.

Spending $300-400+ (which is the current average price range of the TE2+) for a commercial market stick with zero warranty support… and well-known PCB and lock latch quality issues…IS NOT WORTH IT.

PERIOD.

Not everyone has the time, desire, knowledge or capacity to mod or repair their stick (particularly at the PCB-level). That makes the prospect of spending the current silly asking prices that these sticks command nothing but ridiculous.

You can get a Hori with a plexiglass from tek-innovation or Focusattack and art for probably half the price or less than a TE2/TES that people will say are collectors now, Qanba Obsidian also sells a plexiglass too, I think the new Razer also that people say is a pretty solid stick.
If you want a complete stick that comes with a plexi then an Etokki Omni is another good solid stick.

How about a madcatz VS fightstick? Can get one premodded from my site. In new condition, only opened to be modded.

You can find a TE2/+ on Ebay and other outlets for $230-300. It’s original asking prices. There are always going to be anamolies where people ask outrageous prices for a stick. It’s the same with the Hori VLX and that stick is still in production. Who cares about a warranty on a fight stick? Every piece of it is fixable or replaceable fairly easily. If you’re going to invest in a fight stick, you need to learn how to repair it. It’s not rocket science and there are step by step videos (particularly for the TE2) on Youtube. To say that stick is not worth it is dumb. It’s a great stick and shouldn’t be overlooked because of some ridiculous bias.

The stick retailed for $199.99 to $229.99, not $230-$300 (or more). If you actually click on the link I shared the only TE2+ units for sale at your price range are well worn (and probably abused) and/or those sold “for parts only” (and gee, I wonder why THAT is the case, hmm?).
There have been numerous posts as well as separate threads substantiating my claims of quality issues.

Also, again…there are people out there who only care about playing fighting games and not worrying about removing a diode, cutting a trace, resoldering a wire or swapping an entire board because someone fell asleep at the factory in China (due to dwindling Mad Catz QC). Just because you think it’s not rocket science doesn’t automatically make it not for everyone.

The only one biased here (and very much so) is you, buddy.

There’s absolutely an inflation problem with the TE2 and TE2+. I bought and re-sold a KI TE2 for XB1 two years ago for $140, because honestly that’s what those sticks are worth for not being on the tournament standard platform. Today? They’re listed for 299 or higher. It’s not that people are buying at these prices, it’s just price-gougers on Amazon and eBay listing sticks indefinitely hoping for a desperate idiot to come along. Then people see those prices and think they’re what those sticks are actually worth, so they list them on Craigslist for around the same. Here is a list of things that can and do go wrong with the TE2 design:

  • PCB (a common issue)
  • OEM button spacers getting lost (a common issue)
  • LED board in KI TE2 going out (only source of replacement is $100 RGB LVT3 from PAS)
  • Front latch LED no longer working
  • Front latch plastic snapping from under load (an increasingly common issue)
  • Detachable cable no longer working

Basically any TE2 should be eventually assumed to need a Brook + helper board (like EZMOD or EZPZ), and if one of the other above issues crops up, MadCatz is no longer here to provide support. To various extents you can address them (aside from the front latch, which is pretty much instant death), but they all cost money… and that’s not something you should be having to think about on a stick you spend more than $200 on. This is less of an issue for the TE/TE-S platform, because it’s so trivial to mod, and it’s not hard to find one with a couple minor issues for 80 bucks. By the time you set it all up to your liking, you have a quad-modded stick for around 200-250 bucks, and that makes it worthwhile. The TE2 is just too damn fragile with so many moving parts that it shouldn’t be worth more than $120-150 at this point. Yet it’s allegedly worth double that. Other people can spend their money stupidly if they really believe it is, but that sure as shit will not be me.

So, if I hypothetically decided to sell my Guilty Gear TE2 stick, that should be my asking price? Everything works perfectly with no issues with any of the parts at all. I even have the original packaging and everything; the stick is well taken care of aside from some dust and plaque on the plexi, which I can easily clean. The only flaw is that the art panel has a little bubble on the lamination from when I removed it (that thing was seriously taped down) and cleaned the adhesive from both it and the metal face plate underneath. At the time, I thought I was going to buy that extra face plate for the Noir layout but that ended up not working out.

Given the stick’s condition and that the art was a limited print (this TE2 was a limited edition), what would be a good offer for it? Either a single value or a range would be helpful. Just to make it perfectly clear, I am NOT offering it for sale here but am just asking for an estimate of its value.

Or maybe I should just keep it for parts for my TE2+? Although that stick has no problems either. I guess I have been lucky with all the problems the TE2(+) sticks are known to have.

Some of those vendors are crazy trying to sell broken or incomplete te2 /te2+ at 5-10X what they sold for since the beginning of the year. Nuts!

This hardly matters when you can just swap art. I’m sure someone has done a repro of the GG TE2 artwork already. The only one I can see being a bit complex is the Persona version, but MadCatz released a PSD of the Shadow version already

The TE2 and TE2 Plus is garbage. $199 was the original MSRP and most people felt then the price was too high.

Not even worth quarter of the asking price of the lowest eBay offer.
At this point I rather stick to my prototype Atrox stick than ever get a TE2, even if it’s factory sealed.

Ironically enough, the GG TE2 is actually worth more because of the black bezel and side panels than the artwork. Historically speaking, the value of a stick is tied to desirable base colors (like the Chun-Li TE and TE2), and is only enhanced by the artwork if it’s built-in (like on FightStick Pros). This is why the Sanrio FS Pro is so notorious - you can’t easily replicate the sticker, and it’s literally the only design with a pink base. The oversaturation of the Ryu TE2+ with the red bezel and white sides has led to people doing anything they can to avoid it, and blacking out the stick is the most accessible way to do so. I bought a set of side panels + black bezels from MCZ before they disappeared from Amazon, and ended up reselling them for about 50 bucks shipped to be fair. Were I an asshole, I could have easily gotten closer to 100.
