Hey, guys. Last year I found a Mad Catz Street Fighter V TE2+ fight stick at Goodwill thrift store but hesitated to buy because it was a triple digit price. I’m glad I hesitated until it was half price because it proved to be defective… which was likely why it was donated to Goodwill in the first place. Still, 50 USD is worth it just for the Sanwa parts and housing.
Back in January I finally tried it with my PS3 and discovered a problem:
The encoder board is bad and always registers as if I am holding Down on the stick. Well, “always” except when I press Up, so some logic is conditionally canceling the perceived Down input. It did this in PS3 mode and on PC. Even when I set it to control an analog axis on PC, it would say that Z Rotation was at 100% unless I pressed Up (0%). Obviously, it should stay at 50% when not pressing anything. Just for completeness’ sake: Yes, Down is stuck the same way even when assigned to the POV hat.
I broke out my meter and determined that the microswitches and wire harnesses on the stick all test good which I triple confirmed by disconnecting both and seeing that the stick magically still registered Down. There is no short between the relevant pins on the PCB either (marked “PCB MAIN V04”). I checked the relevant capacitors, resistors, and diodes around the PCB connection and they all appear to be fine… no short to ground, or continuity break. From there the traces go to a wire-bonded COB under epoxy, so I think I’ve hit a dead end.
Three questions:
Ever see this issue? Not finding anything when I google.
Where can I get an original replacement “PCB MAIN” board for a TE2+ fight stick?
Are there any aftermarket replacements that retain the PS4 touch area functionality?
Thanks!
