I wouldn’t miss madcatz if they went away. Sure they did things for FGC events but I attribute that more to Markman more than anything. The company itself still produced mediocre to average quality products. And I always felt that some of the sticks were too expensive compared to other brands or compared to even building your own from gutted parts. This became especially apparently when current gen sticks started popping up and more and more people opted for the less pricy Hori sticks.
Was and still am a Hori man myself.
Man i didnt have to work i would totally listen in to the meeting. missing your ratios will totally fuck you. but then again if they had a decent finance team, they should have hedged
To be fair, a lot of products contain parts from other companies. It doesn’t matter that MadCatz used another manufacturer’s parts to create their stick. That’s one of the selling points.
you heard it here first folks. cause of death: investing too much into rockband and getting owned by guitar hero live (which didn’t sell spectacularly either, activision laid off 50 people who worked on it)
guitar hero had a good run but i think from here on we should give music games back to japan and the weeaboos
I’ve had good luck on madcatz sticks, unlike some of the customs I’ve bought that had to be handled like fragile vases.maybe now is a different story, but I had no big complaints years ago
The new generation of rock band offered less features than the past with the worst fucking song list, and people were not about to repay for all the DLC they bought in the past, of which I spent hundreds, because I moved to PS4 from 360
The game was just lackluster. Guitar hero at least tried something different, even if it ended up not being good
No one wanted anything different from Guitar Hero. All of the changes were universally panned the second the game was announced because it’s a stupid idea to try to pander to the demographic of a game by giving them a different game.
It was more than just not good, it was a fucking train wreck. You want to talk about missing features? Guitar Hero Live does not have any features. No create a character, not even character select, no versus mode, no campaign, the shortest on disc set list in the series because they want you to PAY to play songs like it’s a fucking jukebox, it was trash on all fronts.
Rock Band 4 looked like Rock Band 2 in comparison.
I’ve had one for quite a while and it is an extremely clumsy device. I could write a long-ass essay detailing all its problems i’ve run into, alongside all the “Macgyver” fixes i had to pull off to get it to do what i wanted.
Currently, I love it and use it like an all-in-one emulation system. However, it was a long road to get to that point!!
And Madcatz just plain gave up on it before it was even a year old. Hasn’t received firmware updates since 2014 i think.
Wow the hate for MadCatz runs deep in this thread.
I only know the company from recent times and the SCV stick that I bought new for 80€ on Ebay a couple of years ago is of top notch quality and still works like a charm.
Haven’t bought any other of their products but I personally had a positive experience with them.
They also provided a shitload of PS4 arcade sticks at the Capcom SFV booth at GamesCom last year so that’s another plus for me.
It’s also weird to see Daigo without the claw mark shirt at events and it kinda feels like the end of an era which makes me kinda sad even though I hate SF4.
Frankly to me it kinda sucks because Hori in my opinion died with the Fighting Edge. That stick was trash but every stick from that point on going forward uses first party Hori parts that I hate so I’m just never buying anything from them ever again I guess, which sucks because last gen I was all about Hori and the RAP VX/v3. Madcatz was like the last big company to use Sanwa, but if they drop out you are gonna be forced to go 3rd party/custom unlicensed hardware to still get stock Sanwa which is kinda dicks. Also with limited competition I don’t trust Hori to not just become a huge asshole, that TE kinda kept them in check for a minute, but Madcatz’ downward spiral kinda gave Hori some elbow room and now default stick prices have gone up. Less competition is hardly ever a good thing, Madcatz dying doesn’t bode well for the industry.
It took years to test up MadCatz PCB’s being so slow. People bought into the hype.
Maybe they got too big for their jeans… PDP products never just gained a Sanwa/Seimitsu contract? Crapass Razer probably did for the first run and weaned off it to their proprietary garbage ASAP as is their credo.
But with all the other products and stores around now, you can just find a case you like, with the layout you like - many MadCatz never offered, being so tied to SF4, hook up your CTHULHU and go.
$200 + Sticks in the SFV era looked like the beginning of the end too. Even attaching that pricepoint to the old TE case.
There was no “dark ages (of sticks),” when ARCADE SHOCK was still around back then and today right.
