M.O.D.O.K. Thread 2: Orgasm Harder

sigh, its not a bug/glitch/whatever.

it’s the startup of flight that is vulnerable.

also

no one should hold u/b to avoid this mixup. holding u/b is a surefire way to get hit by lows for every character.

I know U/B is vulnerable to lows, but I think you guys are also fooling yourself if you
don’t think it’s a good tactic.

There’s a reason good players do it when pressured… because it’s GOOD.

Modok just has to wait and block it out instead…

Although, after some testing, I believe during the first frame of command flight (when he’s grounded) modok can block!

I don’t think you get the scenario.

Actually they hold U/B to avoid Triangle jump mixups and sometimes after blocking some jumpin heavys or jumping S’s. Holding U/B also turns into a phenomenon after a failed super jump after blocking something or other. Say a traingle jump from Magneto that can come in high, or low generally. What happens with MODOK is after he blocks the incoming air attack if they mash lights or something of that nature he may find himself unable to block if he manages to fly a little before the next attack. Or say Bionic commando just jumps in with a blocked Hard and there’s enough time jump a little and whether its the right thing to do or not is moot. People do it. If he starts a string afterwards MODOK will be hit.

As far as blocking on the first frame after his flight, I don’t know how your testing it but its about intermittent attacks or rather after guarding attacks that this happens. Take it for what it is, if I’m wrong and all my friends were seeing things it will make me happier. I play a lot of MODOK, I’m just putting it out there, since other people have noticed the same thing. I found some other BS too but I’m not going to post it so people won’t abuse my MODOK lol!

In the meantime I’ll keep watching videos of every MODOK getting torn apart like fly paper vs half way decent competition.

^ RE: Blocking first frame of flight :

As we all know and hate, modok can’t continuously block high while going from grounded->airborne like other characters can.

However - I was testing some situations, because I was curious if I could use flight to “save myself” from supers and whatnot.

Here is a scenario: Modok vs Akuma, Modok whiffs s.H, Akuma punishes with beam super, Modok attempts to cancel into fly to save himself.

Here is what happens: If Modok does the fly too late (doesn’t cancel the whiff s.H in time) he just straight up eats the beam super. If Modok does the fly too early, he will get airborne, but still eat the super (most likely due to the infamous no-blocking while getting off the ground thing as discussed earlier). BUT! If Modok times the fly command just right, and holds back on the joystick, he will ground block the beam super!

Why does this happen? My theory is that since we all know that Modok can’t block while getting off the ground, I’m guessing the block is happening before he leaves the ground. There is 1-frame where he is still grounded during flight startup (according to the brady guide), so perhaps he can block during this frame? I really can’t see any other explanation, but I’m totally open to suggestions!

sounds logical.

question, how do you guys deal with wolvie?

also looking forward to the videos astaroth.

pushblock pushblock pushblock and also I try to setup some bombs/keepaway tactics if I do manage to get him out. If you can manage to read a divekick or a dash in low doing a quick jump with j :h: > j.:s: or just j:s: will lead to great damage. just dont press many buttons, take your time vs fast characters.

:annoy:Against Wolverine I DHC out, same with amaterasu and Wesker. Honestly, I think that any of those characters + decent assist ruin MODOK with way less effort than MODOK needs to win. If you have a GTFO me assist fair play. My MODOK never crutches on WAS tho. Mainly because I don’t play the AAA characters.

Did you guys know that you can exploit the aerial exchange rules to combo all 9 cubes before you touch the ground?

I’m playing around with it, and it seems pretty powerful. If I Up or Down exchange for Modok in the corner, I can get all 9 cubes, build almost 3 meters, and score close to 500-600k before I touch the ground. :wow: (Seems to be possible because histun-decay is reset, AND doesn’t accumulate after an air exchange)

Do an OTG series into HBR afterward and weaker characters are dead, and your up two meters and 9 cubes… Or you can OTG series into HPB, then OTG into HBR and everyone else is dead.

I’m having trouble finding sequences that will work against the giants/robots, but the easiest I’ve found is:

Down Exchange [if Up Exchange, do an air L first for spacing]
air H
L-Cube
air H
L-Cube
air M
Fly~M-Cube
air M
air H
L-cube
L-cube
air M
L-cube
air M
L-cube
air M
L-cube
air M
L-cube
air S (spike)
OTG c.M
L-blaster
Super of your choice…

That should work against the average sized human characters. You can make it easier by repeating the M>H>L-cube sequence 4 times once you get to it, and link an air S to spike afterward… this only gets you 7 cubes though.

It seems to be a little character specific, but I have gotten 9 cubes against everyone except the giants/robots. Maybe you guys could help me out there?

The cool part is that this is just the MIDDLE of the combo! You can do whatever you like at the OTG part, or even exchange to a different character after you get all your 9 cubes!

so you mean after you do an air combo with character X exchange into Modok? that sounds sick. just turned off my xbox but will check that out tomorrow.

any chance you can make a video?

The last two combos show this exchange exploit. In the first of these two, I kill Thor (most life in the game) and still walk away with a meter in the process. In the last combo I kill Akuma while gaining almost 3 meters, 9 cubes, and I didn’t use any of it!

I still need to find a sequence that works on the giants/robots though.

Damn!

Also Nos, what do you mean by “HPB” and “HBR”? Edit - Nevermind, i just don’t play enough.

whoa Nos, that was great!

Hehe someone else figured it out eh? Fuuuuuu good show mate lol! Damn it my ability to troll the world with my MODOK is diminishing. Meh not like they can stop it after the aerial exchange tho! We should play sometime Nos you’re in DE right? Part of that old SC crew? I’m the the black guy that teaches capoeira with the crippled friend. Master Blaster style.

I’ve been saying to myself that I was going to learn MODOK from launch, just getting around to building a team around him now. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been thinking about running Arthur/MODOK/Dorm. Start with Arthur to get golden armor and DHC, and bring MODOK out to have either powered up firebottle assist or daggers (still deciding which assist will work better). I’m going to use Dorm’s Purification. Out of curiosity, who have you guys been using with MODOK?

Dead/Modok/Phoenix
MODOK/Doom/Sent
Dead/Modok/Task

Modok/Dead would is probably a good combo eh? The unblockables with quick work assist would be great.

I run MODOK/Doom/Haggar

Hidden missiles when I want to troll the masses on ranked matches. Currently 16/21 on hate mail yay me. Molecular shield is what I normally use, it’s great for zoning and rushdown. And works wonders with haggar.

Whoah modok is crazy, def- just def…

Modok/Cap/Haggar
Modok/Cap/Doom

Not the greatest team by far, but I like trying to do Cap’s infinite even though I guess he is basically a waste of a slot…

I do like that shield slash assist for cube combos though! :stuck_out_tongue:

WorstPlayer: Sorry man, I think you may have me mixed up with someone else? I’m actually in Western Canada.

Although, the “old SC crew” and “the black guy that teaches capoeira with the crippled friend” sounds like an awesome 80’s martial arts movie that I would love to be in.

I’m using MODOK/Hulk/Doom

with barrier, anti air gamma charge, beam or rocks.
