M.O.D.O.K. Thread 2: Orgasm Harder

Ammys coldstar assist has been working well, but ive been finding that people actually put themselves at a disadvantage jumping at MODOK when his shield is up. his standing light really is a good anti-air in that can and can lead to a launcher and cubes or super if you’re skilled(im not that great with combos and MODOK as of yet)

Im not even using the balloon bomb anymore, i find the startup is too slow and by the time it’s out my shield is gone, if they block it im at a pretty bad disadvantage i find. Cubes are AWESOME for zoning, it’s basically a teleporting projectile

L Balloon Bomb seems good when they super jump. If they’re trying to regular jump in, I find that psionic blast spam does a pretty good job of keeping them out. The only real problem I have is with teleporters (well Chris and Dormammu too, but that’s because I’m bad =/).

Are you guys doing any actual combos with MODOK? I find the range on all of his non-H normals to be really bad, and his H moves are slow enough that I get stuffed pretty often if I try to use them.

I really don’t like his psionic blaster assist. It takes too long and leaves him free as dirt to lay devastation upon.

Since my team is primarily a rushdown squad consisting of Felicia (sandsplash) and Shulkie (AAA), would Balloon Bomb be a better assist to help them get in? Taskmaster and all the rest of these easy-as-fuck-hitconfirm douchebags are really starting to get on my nerves. Is MODOK even the right character to help?

I’ve never used balloon bomb assist. I’m finding that psionic blaster is usually the assist i go with, and that works whether i have trish on point or ammy. However, when i have trish on point the only time i really use an assist is when i need something to cover me while i reassert my pressure string.

If i use ammy and dont feel its safe to get close, usually ill block, call MODOK in behind me, and they try and use their assist to cover them getting in. That results in either their point or helper character being hit so it becomes a battle of attrition, then i slowly approach which ammy.

Someone should tell me how to use balloon bomb, im really not getting much out of this move. MODOK seems to be too busy to really bother with it. In the time you get one of those out you could have had a shield and multiple analyze cubes+ a psionic blaster.

That’s a good idea, I’m going to have to start trying that. Normally I get a :d::h::f::h: into hyper blaster if I have cubes when an opponent tries to physically attack my shield, and I’m gonna try to get those AA standing :l: combos down.

I don’t think Balloon Bomb will help you rushdown. The assist doesn’t track, and it comes out really slow. I have Hulk on my team and when he’s on point and I try to get in on the opponent, Doom’s missile assist is much, much better for that. If you’re running a rushdown team, I’d suggest switching MODOK out for an assist that can lockdown.

Psionic Blaster helps rushdown a great deal. It’s fast, knocks them back and he’ll be offscreen if you’re already moving forward. It’s not as good as DISRUPTAH but…

Also lol c.B qcf A, or c.B qcb any attacks. Pretty dumb at midscreen.

It changes as you level it up, it just only changes incrementally.

How are you guys dealing with Dorm players? My friend plays him a lot and I’m having a lot of trouble in this matchup to the point where I usually just start someone else ( trish/dorm/doom/task/skrull back and forth trying to find a good team ). In most matches I try to open with 4C, but you can’t do that here since he can start with dark hole which hits too fast for MODOK to do much of anything except eat the chip. Bombs and cubes are hard to land for the same reason, and every dark hole leads into a teleport mixup or a free hyper.

Definitely one of the much more difficult match-ups for me. I’m running into the same problem you are, namely Dark Hole leaves Dorm at an advantage to continue spamming. I do believe his Purification has a longer recovery time, so if he uses that, drop a quick Barrier before he can shoot off another Dark Hole and at that point I think it’s just proper Barrier maintenance and assist usage. I use Doom’s missile assist, so I can usually beat out beam wars and w/ proper coverage, minimize or at least interrupt him when he puts out a Chaotic Flame.

It’s a really tough fight, though.

no one has mentioned the body ram (s + a), this is a dash with a good amount of cooldown, but can be used three times in the air and can be special cancelled. So he can fly up, air dash, then body ram three times, he stays in the sky the longest of all characters with this i think.

has anyone found any good midscreen combos? best i can do is like 450k, which is just a basic magic series, air magic series, c.m battering ram. I was hoping maybe some people would have ideas to work cubes into his combos like that corner loop we saw a ways back. I can get one cube in with my dorm assist, that does roughly the same amount of damage, which is bad. Hoping theres at least a 3 cube combo that does 500k plus off one meter.

yeah MODOKs rush down game is insane

I forget the exact details, but I think you can do launcher, L, L cube, L, L cube, L, L cube, etc. all the way down (has to be in the corner I think). I think I did this on three consecutive occassions, two against Wolverine and one against Dormammu. Someone might wanna test this.

was working on one yesterday with 3+ cubes midscreen that looked like this:
5A,5B(1 hit),2C,214C, dashing 5B(1 hit),6C,214C, then either:
a.) instant airdash -> continue combo
b.) [dash+crouch cancel] x2-3, continue combo (for example into launcher).
c.) dash, jump, 9-airdash j.C, continue combo

didn’t pursue it further because right now i’m not interested in finding combos out of modok’s D-launcher. i’m sure there are better setups than this one btw.

i’ll have to mess around with those you listed gates, i didn’t realize you could continue off of the c cube with a dash, that opens up some opportunities.

Also, the launch - a,214a,a,214a,a,214a,a,s does indeed work to net you three cubes, even out of the corner. Only problem seems to be that the s at the end knocks them too far away to otg into battering ram.

I was playing around with anti air throwing people who try to jump the barriers. Gimmicky, but funny when it works. I have no idea how to play a marvel game =/

i was doing that combo yesterday and i thought it comboed directly into the battering ram super after the 3rd cube.

I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get fast, close range people off of me playing as MODOK. One of my friends likes playing in-your-face fast characters and I feel like when I have MODOK out he just wipes the floor with me. Any tips?

Throw em, modok has a good throw. There’s also his throw super which can combo into mountain dew into battering ram for good damage. There’s also a good assist on their way in coupled with strategic placing of the shield to interrupt combos possibly, along with analyze cubes placed at your feet…

Also cancelling your guard into x-factor into super of choice would work too
