Corner traps, block stun infinites, overhead vs low forward nitaku, touch of deaths, meter building strategies, use of throws, avoiding command throws, head stomp trajectories, new uses of devil’s hand in HDR, how to cross-up slide, uses for fake slide, famous matches with Dictator…
Looks GREAT!
I’ve added a link to it and Fatboy’s blog to the respective character streetfighterdojo.com pages.
You might want to start by mirroring some of what Fatboy did.
Break the game down for the user into an understanding of hitboxes, etc.
Also, I know when we talked, you had some great ideas regarding providing Dictator info at the core and base levels.
It would be great if you spoke with Fatboy and coordinated what kind of stuff to tackle, maybe recruit top players with other chars to make blogs for other chars, and develop a network and pulse for it all.
Maybe get guest contributors, or polls from players, etc.
Anyway, good stuff and I look forward to seeing how you develope it.
Sounds like GREAT stuff.
Thanks for the ideas, I look forward to writing up on the overhead Vs. low forward. I’m a bit inexperienced with HDR’s DR/Fake Slide, so I’ll look to other people for some insight on those. As well as some info on HS trajectory, as I fuck that up more than I care to admit.
Thanks man, I’m going to try to do up my article on basic fundamentals tomorrow. I’ll try to do around two articles a week, depending on how busy I may be. I’ll also try to break it up by doing an article on a gameplay element, then a character who said thing may apply to. Example: Escaping tick throws would come up in the same week as the Gief entry.
Also, if any of you gentlemen have some things you’d like brought up specifically, feel free to PM me, as I don’t check this topic all that often.
I’m looking for some top level bison players. I use Sim and I need to learn the matchup. If you dont mind me figuring out things (goes both ways) I would appreciate it. Again I’m looking for one on one training with my Sim vs your Bison. Dont hold back and please go all out.
Either send me a PM, reply back in this forum or send me a friend request to my gamertag or send me game invite.
Thanks.
Don’t know if i’m top level but if i can help then hit me up with a friend request. I know this matchup fairly well, but i could always use some practice. I could recommend jiggly norris too, he knows both characters fairly well, so he’d be useful to spar against if he’s up for it.
Yep I have jiggly on my list. Basically if you feel you dominate the matchup and havent played any Sims that have made you change your mind then that works for me. I’ll add you shortly.
Thanks.
No other Bison’s willing to work with me hunh? Interesting.
Well, you asked for top level bison
Yeah, if you want to get better you need hard Dics to beat.
Sorry I couldn’t resist.
I’ve think there are a number of very solid Dictators and Dhalsims out there.
But I would say cvital is the guy you want to hunt down and play against.
He mains both Dictator AND Dhalsim, and he knows the ins-and-outs of both sides of the matchup very well: he can give you practice vs. Dictator AND he can give you insight into the matchup from both characters.
I was playing alot of Sim and of course Dict today. One of my hardest match-ups was Dict/Dict. It seems the best opening move is either a short scissors kick or jump back, then it is on who ever has the better pressure game. I am still not sure what beats what in this match; scissors vs pc. Honda was still giving me a bit of trouble, but that match is getting better and better. Shoto’s are just lunch. My hit and run game vs Blanka is getting LEAGUES better. I just stay AWAY from the bite. It seems most people either counter pick dj/guile or blanka/honda vs Dictator lol.
jamie, Dic/Dic is one of the most boring matches out there, but a good rule of thumb is that whoever gets the lockdown wins.
- short scissors at start is a pretty good option, usually.
- spamming a few jabs to stop early Crusher, then jump in with early jump strong is a good opener too (if they jump too, you win, if they dont jump, use the second jump strong as you come down and go for a block string)
- if you block a crusher, just roundhouse asfter the last block, you usually get a free hit.
- tick throw a LOT
- if you get a knockdown, go for the crossup jump forward or meaty low forward everytime. its super-safe against yourself
- your pokes work really well but watch your range. if you poke slowly or whiff you can get jumped in on (really not what you want) or scissored (also not what you want).
- if you are on the recieving end of pressure, your cr.forward is a good way to interrupt imperfectly-executed blockstrings. Follow up with short scissors or standing forward, or if you need a corner escape, DR.
Ive beaten much “better” dictators than myself by sticking to throws and meaties. Combos are pretty risky as if you screw it up you can get TOD’d, so i tend to stay with the basics.
My least favourite matches at the moment are probably Honda and Hawk.
Sorry I’ve been unable to make my first post yet guys. It’s 75% typed right now, and it’ll be up by the time the night is out. It would be finished, but I’ve decided to go back and insert some video references for those who are less familiar with the subject matter.
EDIT: Post #1 is up “What is a Touch of Death?” is up!
Yeah I’m sticking with a pressure/throw mix up game. The opener is so important imo. I guess jump forward would be a good option, maybe better than jump back, as he can delay and catch me. I like c/FK when they miss their SK strings.
Gief was giving me the most trouble today/besides a sick, yet annoying Honda, as some pretty good ones were my opponents early out. I was just using short SK and head stomp and the occasionaly PC when he gets too close and I needed to get to the other corner. Honda? I hate Honda. I honestly think he is a poorly designed char. So strong vs non-fb chars, specially if you don’t have a reliable reversal (cough cough psycho crusher If you play a really good Honda I just feel you have to truly out play him, in this match (more-so than other matches)
Finally, one Chun was playing a really good game of, you guessed it, short and forward jump kick… over and over. I SWEAR those kicks have just a frame or 2 more blockstun than they should. If someone does a short/forward kick with Chun from the START of the jump and it hits you square on the TOP of your box while blocking, you should be able to throw them (IMO). It gets soo annoying… legal surely, but annyoing in this match up. If he wasn’t doing that it was jump up and down in the corner throwing fireballs. I had to learn to time my HS and after 2 matches I got it to where I started to win. I usually just stayed away and would headstomp and make her come to me and try to catch her jumping forward and PC her for chip or to get to the other side. I’d catch her making mistakes and jumpin for a string or a throw. It was just a very, how shall I put it… UNFUN series of matches.
One Ryu got the best of me today and he understood the Dict match better than anyone I’ve fought against. He got me 2-1 and then logged off. Hawk is not really too much trouble for me as of yet. I’ve played a few guys that seeminly mained Hawk and I don’t think they ever got the best of me over the series of matches… not even close. I think Gief is harder for Dict than Hawk??
Before I forget! I love pwning scrubs who start off with Akuma. Dict has a reasonably decent time vs Akuma IMO. He can stay away and pick his shots very well and one mishap on Akuma’s part spells ALOT of damage. Making Akuma come to you with jump/in air FB’s = PC over and over. The timing it right there for the taking (going between the FB and hitting Akuma RIGHT as he is landing). I love it!! An ocassional pyschic jump in with a SP juggle is another one that allows dict to get Akuma in the corner with an advantage to start the s forward/RH into SK strings.
Overall I learned ALOT in the 1 hour I played today. After that I got a little further in Batman AA heh.
Don’t use crusher to get past gief, it’s risky and if he blocks and hits you out of it it’s a knockdown for him, and you’re in a world of pain. Generally be very careful of using fierce crusher, period. Use it as a counter or anti air, or as part of a combo, when you know it’s going to work. Headstomp gief and then pilot your recovery to far away, or alternatively a j.MP juggle is a good option to keep him away from you. Also, many giefs will lariat on reaction if you headstomp them, because the lariat beats the skull diver follow up clean. If you see that happening, don’t skull dive, instead fly out about 1/2 a screen and slide back in with the roundhouse slide. You have loads of time to do it and the slide will beat the lariat clean. You can do some dangerous mixups by following up with another stomp on his wakeup to reset the technique. Alternatively you can push right up close to them while they’re knocked down to bait a wakeup SPD and jump straight up at the last second and use neutral jump MP on the way back down. This will catch a gief player who’se trying to SPD you on wakeup, and launch him up in the air- jump again for another 2 MP juggles. It’s a bit of a risky shenanigan, you’re a bit too close to gief for comfort, but it’s very fun to pull off. Not at all tournament viable, but you can gauge your oppopnent to see how sharp they are and keep it in your bag of tricks.
Don’t underestimate hawk vs bison. It’s one of Dic’s hardest matchups if hawk is played right, the problem is there are just not enough good hawks online that know what they’re doing, which means you never get a chance to practice. If you find one, FR him and get as much practice as you can.
One mistake in that matchup can be game over for dic. It’s definitely winnable in HDR versus in Classic ST (which was brutal), because of Hawk’s nerfs and bison’s buffs, but it’s still in hawk’s favour. Bison’s lack of a solid reversal is potentially fatal here-hawk can tick 360 him to death really easily if he gets in close and gets a knockdown, he has one of the scariest corner lockdowns in the game on dictator. Use standing MK/HK on the ground to keep him at distance, J.MP in the air to get damage, standing jab to counter hawk dives, devil’s reverse to escape ground ticks, watch his psychic DP rising hawk move, and build up your super meter early and KEEP the super for a reversal. Don’t throw it out randomly or waste it unless you’re 100% it will either hit or help you to escape a lockdown.
You should ask DE Mavrick. I think he has 1 if not the best Bison out there on xbox live right now
At Evo in the 3v3 regionals he absolutely wrecked a good number of great players I was like holy shit this guy is running through these people who have been playing for years when this guy has by his own admittance about a year of experience.
Always make a fresh new post to announce things.

Make the fresh post short and to the point, so people get it and get to it quickly and without distraction.

Great choice in starting with the ToD.
I recently was helping a friend learn Dictator, and the ToD was the first thing I told them to start working on.
It is a major part of his game, and also it requires time for many people to get down… so for new players it is best to start working on it right from the outset.
Thanks for the insight/correction on the quote. I’m uncertain as what to cover in my second topic. Perhaps footsies? Anyone in favor of footsies for the second topic?
