square gate is pretty useless for guile his two moves don’t charge overlap very well (flash kicks recover so slow there’s no value to overlapping)
bison on the other hand needs it to escape pressure.

I posted this in another thread, and it just occurred to me it might be useful to stick it in here as well. Some of you may have seen it before.
It’s a link to the dictator section of a site called “street fighter dojo” that has load of video clips of the best dictator players. It gives matchup strats and suggested rankings against all of the cast, and if you look in the “extras-combos and tricks” section it’s got links of all of his best TOD’s, combos, setups, and general shenannigans.
http://streetfighterdojo.com/superturbo/dictator/dictatormatches.html
has anyone got any tips vs Sim? the basic dril / cr. mk / noogie pattern has me stumped unless i can fly out and get a good combo in.
Its like being locked down by a good dictator with scissors and throw!
DR to the other side of the screen or throw him back. Dic’s throw range is better than the noogie.
Watching for the drill and mashing standing light punch to counter it while keeping your back charge is excellent. You’ve got to be brave with it, but it will usually beat drills clean out of the air unless they’re very close, then fierce crusher out of the corner if you need to before dhalsim lands after the hit.
All of dhalsim’s drill corner traps are a lot easier to deal with now because of the boosted priority on the st.LP.
Also j.LK is very good in the air against dhalsim, it’s hitbox is very high, and it’s got a lot of priority, it seems to cut through most of his air to air nonsense. If it hits, stick out a meaty cr.MK when you land if you’re close to him. it will cut through most of his normals and it’s a really frustrating hi priority ground poke.
square gate can play any character. the only gate i could see being bad to use is a circle gate on a charge character.
Thanks for that link Mack.
That’s a great site. YouTube has a rather nice collection of YuuVega and Taira matches. A quick search for either of them will turn up a nice collection of ST matches to watch and learn from. Just remember if you search for Dictator matches he might be tagged as ‘Dictator’, ‘Vega’, or ‘M.Bison’ because of the name swap.
Also, Giga put up three nice videos about ST Dictator that I’ve posted before, if you missed them then get them now. sKVjpAGnMTQ&feature=channel_page"]Tips and tricks and some combo material and .
No problem. Where have you been lately?Haven’t seen you on XBL and could use some practice against a good hawk.I’ve been beating middle of the road hawks too much lately, and getting careless in that match-up cause nobody is punishing me for doing stupid, risky crap.
I’d seen all of giga’s tricks before, and use a lot of them, but the second link has some great examples of how to string together lots of his shenanigans and create setups to confuse the crap out of your opponent. Thanks for re-posting!
Speaking of giga’s cross up shenanigans, I was on a site before that had a chart in Jpeg form of what move you need to use to cross up each opponent in each corner with dictator, but i can’t seem to find it anywhere. Kind of a handy reference to glance at at the start of a round to see what your crossup options are. Has anybody else seen it or does anyone know where i can get to it again? I really should have DL’d it in the first place…
EDIT: Found it. It was actually on streetfighterdojo, i just didn’t spot it.Doh!

very useful chart.
My Xbox is at my dad’s house in Indiana. I haven’t been able to get out there, but I’ve been playing offline a lot.
Btw, I figured out how to partion Hawks 720, so prepare to be molested next time Im on.
Oh crap, that’s the last thing i needed versus your hawk:looney:
Hey, does anybody want to give me some advice versus claw?.I’ve been playing a lot of good claws lately, and i’ve practised that matchup with the help of some good advice from earlier in the thread, so i can deal with a lot of their crap, but it’s when i make a mistake and get knocked down or get pushed out by blocking their pokes that i get hammered. Once they get space the wall jump shenanigans start and i’m completely f*cked. Shari does this to me all of the time.I know knockdown into wall jumping is the main tactic for claw versus Dic, but i’m just wondering has anyone got any way out of it for dictator. As soon as i’m knocked down or pushed out it’s walldive, if i block i’m thrown, if i jump i’m hit and knocked down because of the HUGE range the claw has got.
I know i’m not supposed to get knocked down against claw, and i can use j.LK and j.MP to win in the air and scissors to pressure, but i feel like once i’m floored all i can do is pray.Does spamming cr.lp or using cr.FP do anything for me?Has anyone got any tips? Should i use something to trade and at least knock both of us down? What the hell do i do?
When you’re knocked down, praying is pretty much your only solution. If they time their wall dive bad, you can try and slide, but just blocking is the better option.
I usually use the juggle or jump straight up fierce or jump straight up roundhouse since they both have a ton of priority against the wall dive.
Yeah i can usually beat it if it’s timed poorly, jumping forward LK is great agiainst it, and stays out for ages so you don’t take as much of a risk with screwing up on the timing. The problem is, against claws that know what they’re doing, their plan is score a knock down, (usually with a slide) and then wall dive immediately, so by the time you get up the wall dive is already directly over you so there’s no space to jump out of the way, i have no proper wakeup reversal, no anti air, and they just throw and repeat till i’m dead.
Has anybody tried Reversal DR to beat this setup? I imagine it must take amazing timing but it’s probably possible??
It seems like the worst thing that could happen for vega is for me to try to take a hit from the claw, maybe by just crouching, instead of stand blocking or whatever, rather than just getting thrown. The claw dive doesn’t knock down in HDR, this might mean that i get the moment i need to break his knockdown loop while he goes for another wall jump. I could take the hit then try to get out of the setup while i’m still on my feet???
Crouch, take the hit, and then immediately DR out? Risky i know, but if i try to defend against this setup when it’s done right i just gradually get thrown to death every time, so this tactic seems like it might be possible death versus certain death…
Help!!!
For the love of god, please somebody help me with this vega walldive issue. The best claw players out there make mincemeat out of my dictator because of that one move.
I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to figure a way to beat it and i die everytime. Shari handed me my ass again today. As soon as i’m knocked over, his claw just constantly walldives.
The best response i could find was a :d::u: Devil’s reverse, timed very very late, a fraction before the claw was about to hit, this seemed to take me out of the way of it sometimes, but i was a sitting duck if vega anticipated it and just jumped up and kicked me and started the loop again. I tried playing defensively, which got me killed less, because all i was doing was waiting to beat the dive, but i got way too many trades, and got thrown loads, and wasn’t doing enough damage to win rounds.
De Mavrick, who i reckon is the best Bison on XBL at the moment advised me to use jMP to beat the claw or strong crusher to get out of the way, and this works great when you’re in space, but after being knocked down against a good vega with a slide or whatever, his walldive is on top of you instantly, before you even get back up. (EDIT: video example, the crossup walldive loop in round 1 of this video happens me all the time )
I can’t close space, because that damn flipkick takes away all my aerial options, and claw can outrange and outpoke me easily on the ground. A blocked scissors to close space is either thrown or poked to death, and a stomp is usually met with a wall dive throw seeing as he’ll activate his :d::u: special as soon as he gets space just like me, and his walldive beats the stomp clean in air to air.
Somebody please help…:looney: Can anybody who figures they’re good with dictator please post some detailed strategies for this matchup. Specifically about what to do after knockdowns, and how to get in effectively on claw.

streetfighterdojo.com (ST: Claw)

Thanks for those links. I had seen all the clips on street fighter Dojo. That’s a great resource, i only wish it had more matchups for ST on it and less SFIV. The NKI clip kinda confirmed what i think is probably the best way to play.
From the clips i’ve seen of high level dic versus claw games it seems the matchup is all long range footsies and poke/counter poke stuff, and defensively is the way it should be played. The strategy seems to be to stay away and stuff pokes with cr.MP (?) and bait long range wall dives and punish them with j.MP. Problem is, claw can make a mistake and recover without losing too much health, if dic gets floored and the wall diving starts it’s game over in all the clips i’ve seen of it. Fast, close aerial assaults are not dictator’s friend…
I know i’m supposed to avoid a knockdown, but it happens. Does anybody have a strategy for a floored dictator for getting out of wall dive loops?
Matchup breakdown for dic?
I have more ST Dictator clips to add (sorry, no Dictator vs. Claw in this batch)
You really should watch the SF Dojo ST vids over and over and over and over.
You should break down each matchup into groupings of (1) Taira, (2) YuuVega, (3) other.
Under each of those 3 groups, you should write down categories of scenarios specific to the matchup, and then fill in for each category the flowchart options.
For example:

Group: YuuVega
Start of round (Dictator opening moves):
Round 1: cr.Forward
Round 2: cr.Forward
Round 3: crouching block
Wall Dive Away + Dictator has time to react
Wall Dive Behind + Dictator has time to react
Wall Dive Away + Dictator has NO time to react
Random moves by Dictator
Reverse throws with Strong (no piano w/ Strong+Fierce; no Fierce)
Reason: whiffed Fierce from a missed reversal attempt (from Claw jumping away) will kill Dictator’s recovery, and Claw could punish Dictator.
Against knocked down Claw
Claw jumps back
Dictator cross-up mix-ups
Claw jumps on Dictator
Claw jumps up (close to Dictator)
Claw jumps up (far from Dictator)
Frequent position of choice for Dictator
Punish close missed Claw flip kick
NKI has a nice Dictator, but he is no YuuVega or Taira.
Also, note if the opponent is a top player of their character.
Take notes on gameplay of any player other than Taira or YuuVega with some degree of caution.
They can be helpful and inventive and give ideas, but they are not the “sure thing” source of top tested gameplay you are gonna get from Taira or YuuVega.
Check the Taira and YuuVega vids at streetfighterdojo.com.
Write a list of each wall dive setup (away, behind, away+no time, behind+no time), then record the reaction of each player when each of these happens.
By breaking down their gameplay into the most common scenarios in each matchup, you are learning exactly what AAA options you have to work with at every situation.
For example:
YuuVega Opening Moves vs. Claw:
Taira Opening Moves vs. Claw
This is why my “go to” opening vs. Claw players was cr.Forward for a long time.
Look in the vids for the scenarios that give you trouble:
Likewise, it’s great to learn the reverse stuff from your opponent’s side.
Figure out what their ideal distance from you is? Don’t let them stay at that range.
Etc.
If you lose an online fight, use your emotion to fuel your search for answers in the videos.
Once you have your what-to-do-in-each-scenario library down for a particular matchup, you will become a monster.
Greatest post i have ever seen on SRK :wow:
Am thinking about buying a premium membership just to +rep the F#ck out of you.Double thumbs up.
Thanks so much. This should keep me busy for a while…
Thank!
I originally set up the streetfighterdojo.com as a data source for this type of analysis.
Making sure to have confirmed top quality play data (so you can copy what you see without worrying) and get a decent amount of different vids to allow a big picture perspective on what scenarios define the matchup and then get a solid review of those scenarios.
I had VERY little experience with Bison in ST before I started my analysis and self-training with the use of the footage you see at http://streetfighterdojo.com/superturbo/dictator/dictatormatches.html
I used Taira and YuuVega footage to learn:
I would play on GGPO, find someone who could destroy me, use the emotion from the beat down to fuel my studying that SPECIFIC matchup (and what I had trouble with: how to get in, how to escape zone, how to deliver damage, optimal distance, turtle/contain/pressure, etc.) in the vid footage, and then head back on to GGPO where I could get RADICAL success improvement on my matches.
IF you can do all the Dictator individual moves then, with the help of studying footage (and review/practice to ingrain it), you should be able to deliver a very high level Dictator.
/dictatormatches.html
Don’t worry about that.
I totally love SRK as a great site, but their rep set-up isn’t really set-up in a way to convey much meaning to me.
Awesome!
I recommend adding the “start at 0:00” in your notes. (or at least referencing what vid to look in)
Oftentimes the more you study a scenario (watch it and then test it out in game), the more you start to figure out nuances you totally missed the first time or understand the different reasons for the moves being used.
