Lvl 2 fa on block

why is it that when i do a lvl 2 focus on block i always lose? if i go in to throw ill lose to a jab or whatever? but when i go for a jab i lose to a throw? no matter what i do i always lose. but when other people do lvl 2 focus on me i go to throw but lose to a jab or whatever. i go for a jab and get hit with a throw wtf is goin on

i get that shit too… it’s your timing, i think. if you block a lv2 fa, you can most likely land a reversal… in other words if the FA was easily telegraphed your opponent can beat out your throw attempt fairly easily.

ahh thanks man. that shit is frustrating as hell

It depends on your character and their focus, dash, and jab, and it depends on your opponents jab as well

Most lvl 2’s are pretty safe on block. Throws beat normals however. You have to make sure you have the frame advantage to do what you want after.

Lets say you are +1 on lvl2 block and you go for a 5 frame jab, a throw will beat that. But if you go for a throw they have to jump or reversal.

i know that stuff. ill be specific, i use boxer and i did a lvl 2 focus against dict which was blocked. i dashed in afterwards and went for a throw but got hit with a cr jab. idk the number but i know dicts cr jab isnt 3 frame so i should have grabbed him during the startup frames. i did it again and went for a cr jab but got hit with a throw. boxers cr jab is 3 frame startup so wouldnt the active frames of my cr jab hit him out of the throw? i know throws are 3 frame startup as well but like he delayed the throw and it still caught me

also like funky said the frame advantage on block. if boxers lvl 2 was +1 on block and i go for a cr jab which starts up in 3 frames that leaves a 2 frame hole. in theory if someone went for a throw the active frames of the cr jab would come out before the active frames of the throw and beat it. if the person tries to do a normal, my cr jab would still win because it comes out quicker then theirs

Level 2s are plus on block

Key thing to take away from all this is, stop using Boxer’s focus.

This is all assuming you can time your jab with perfect frame accuracy after your blocked FA2, which is pretty tough. Again, though, if you’re that close enough with Boxer to be connecting his FA2, odds are pretty good you shouldn’t be doing it anyways because of all the ways you’re open to being stuffed and punished horribly. ESPECIALLY against scissorman Bison.

Up close, use more jabs (hit confirmed into headbutts or sweeps) and tick throws and less focuses and you’ll probably see a pretty fast increase in your win rate overall.

yea i dont use his focus at all cause it sucks. today i was using it a lot more then usual. if i couldnt anti air quick enough with headbutt or cr fierce or standing strong ill do focus and release it when they land then dash in

Boxer’s lvl2 focus is +4 on block after dash, no one should be hitting you out of a jab with anything. His lvl1 is -2 however, its possible you might be landing a lvl1, otherwise its unpunishable.

im pretty sure its a lvl 2 cause its after his white flash

You can’t throw someone in blockstun. If you FA2 and then go in directly for a throw without waiting your throw will whiff because they’ll still be in blockstun. Same as if you did j.hk and tried to throw immediately.

But it must just be lol online.
