Lupinko says there will be a Super MvC3 [rambling and dreams: enter at your own risk]

You’re mistaken, Niitsuma had said that they wanted to put Juggernaut and Sent in the game, but couldn’t. The Sent part was obviously bullshit, but the rest should be true.

Maybe he’d be a possible prospect for the revision.

Who knows who they modeled and got working before they were abandoned.

I hope capcom shows us something at e3. DLC, a super version, anything. I would settle for concept designs for scrapped characters.

A grappler in MVC3 as you described sounds like they would play like…

Super Skrull

Low sales? MvC3 sold like crazy.

I’m looking at the charts and it’s sold only 1.15 million in ten weeks. That’s worldwide. Sales were pretty abysmal and when you factor in post-release support, I don’t see how a game with sales like this can support that. Low sales can explain that the only post-release support they are able to provide are shadow mode packs which are paid back with customer sales. Presumably the cost of developing these are pretty low. Balance patches are free and it actually costs them money to release. DLC costumes might not have made enough money to continue funding for the rest of the cast.

MVC 3 shipped 2 millions worldwide, sold one million. Half what was shipped. That’s ALOT.

A lot in comparison to what? Definitely not a Call of Duty, Halo or any PS3 exclusives.

If anyone in Capcom was expecting numbers comparable to those franchises they’re absolutely insane.

Yeah, I don’t know what kind of flip universe you live in. That’s good.

I suppose that for fighters, it’s a good number but in the video game industry overall, it’s not that impressive.

It’s pretty damn impressive for video games actually. Not everything is CoD or a 1st-party Nintendo game.

For reference, 1.15 million is almost exactly what the first Mega Man X game sold. Pretty sure that game spawned a hell of a lot of success. Granted, that was at a time when the cost of production was lower and video game sales in general were also lower.

SSF4 sold so far (56 weeks data) about 1.8M units.

MvC3 selling 1.15 in 10 weeks is pretty good. But after 10 years of wait, isn’t that number a bit disappointing? MK9 sold 1.6M in 5 weeks…

I wonder how it’ll go from SMvC3. MvC3 wasn’t well received by the competitive community, lots of casuals disappointed with the game. I think unless they add a ton of new content, the title upgrade is likely to sell less than MvC3. Capcom won’t be losing money, but the franchise will lose value for the next few years.

Would reducing Xfactor damage as part of Super MVC3 balance be attractive to pick up a new MVC3 game?

Mortal Kombat is riding the nostalgia wave more than MvC3 is. That sells you tons of copies.

MvC3 sold pretty well for a fighting game. Realistically all expectations from the title should have been met from Capcom’s standpoint. An updated title at a reduced price-point would be easy money, as the vast majority of the assets such as stages and character models would already be completed.

Your missing the point, we are not comparing MVC3 to call of duty or halo. If 2 million is good enough for capcom then they will make a SMVC3.

:crybaby:
I remember when this forums only had like 20 people viewing.

I’m the one who made the original point. #1, nobody compared MVC3 sales to anything. I brought that up. #2, my concern was that the sales were so low that we got no post-release content and balance updates (we’ve only gotten bugfixes so far and Sent nerf was apparently supposed to be in the original version) and that prompted Capcom to release an updated game to sell. Remember that Capcom is in it to make money and reselling a game with updates is likely profit for them.

Look at Mortal Kombat, that game is selling well enough that they got post-release balance support, new content updates regularly and the team stays in touch with it’s fanbase. They don’t need to do a new version because the base original version is all they need. The game is evolving and eventually we’ll see enough content and fixes that make it feel like it’s one of those big disc updates we buy from Capcom.

MK is getting that support because from NRS’ standpoint MK has to do well after what happened to Acclaim. NRS is going the extra mile to be involved in the competitive community and ensure that MK has a future. It helps a lot that NRS is US-based and has a much easier bridge to the competitive community than a company like Capcom that has to consider numerous worldwide communities.

Just a couple of counters, just for discussion’s sake.

The Capcom Europe tweet was proven to be a mistake, and was supposed to say SSFIV. Don’t know how they messed that one up.
As far as sales numbers, like someone said the game shipped 2 million and sold over half since the numbers were released, relatively comparatively to SSFIV. I don’t know what Capcom was expecting and maybe those numbers were low for them. Can’t really argue either way if the numbers had an affect on their perceived outlook on DLC and other post-release support.

No patches can be attributed to the fact that they said they wanted to hold off on major patches until after Evo. Every patch since launch has been things that absolutely needed to be removed, like infinite removals, or things that were planned in advance, like the Sentinel nerf.

Costume DLC is an interesting thought though. Out of everything Capcom likes to milk, costumes and other unnecessary DLC (like shadow battles) seem to be their favorite thing. Not sure what the deal is with that, and what its exclusion so far means for a SMvC3.

E3 is in a week, and Comic-Con is soon after that. I expect to hear something about the game between those two events, and if there’s nothing announced then I think it will be safe to assume that they’re going to let this game play out until they release SMvC3.
