LS 58 01 Thread and Questions

Sorry getting back into the swing of things as of last week, so apologize for potentially(most likely) shitty questions.

Just got my Hori FE in, would like to switch out the stick for an LS-58-01. Do I still go with the MS plate, is there anything special, is it even possible to install? Heard the Hori FE uses a different kind of stick, could cause possible issues.

Thanks.

EDIT - Ah, ignore me. 4Gamers did a review/dissection of the Hori FE and it looks like I can replace it with anything. Sorry!

Finally picked one of these up,

Initial thought it that it’s awesome. I’m used to JLF’s and LS-32’s and this is a really nice almost hybrid of the two. I did switch to a octagonal gate, and found the shorter throw to be a big help in my dashing.

Other than that, the dustwasher is top fucking tier. Having the washer have a ridge that rests in the joystick hole is smart as hell.

Gonna be playing more on this stick to test it out further, but I think it’s fine for fighters as well as other types of gaming.

Okay, from what I understand, these are essentially LS-56’s with a softer spring… Now I have like 3 LS-58-01’s, one of them i’m not really using, and I never owned an LS-56, so can i basically just buy an LS-56 spring and swap it in here, to basically make it into an “LS-56”?

Yes, once you swap the spring it will be the same exact thing as the 56, all the parts but the spring are identical.

i just picked up one of these things for my shmup stick and i absolutely love it. it’s perfect for shmups, brawlers, and all sorts of fun 2d games.

only slight problem i’ve noticed is that one of the directions is slightly less sensitive than the others. you have to nudge it just a few extra millimeters before it clicks. i only notice it because i’m extra ocd about this sort of thing. should i just leave well enough alone and chock it up to my obsessive attention to detail, or is there something within the mechanism which i can tighten myself?

I have three LS-58-01’s (one is solid red, two are the CX versions, clear pink and green) now, my most used one is the solid red one, i’ve noticed that the shaft starts to jump if I do down directions (feels slippery), much less when doing up/left/right, almost like an LS-32. (It’s like the same kind of ‘jumping’ when you pull the level upwards while on neutral.) I just checked it and everything seems fine, I’ve disassembled this quite a number of times mostly just to replace the shaft cover. My two other 58’s don’t have this, but they are fairly never used… just wanted to know if this is normal behavior :v
it doesn’t deter from gameplay, infact kinda feels nice (less tight LS-32ish), but it just concerns me

My LS-58 doesn’t pop at all. Nor do I have the problem twotone8 is having.

How did you shorten the throw?

With a nylon spacer bought at a hardware store.

So, you put the spacer on the shaft? I know I wont find much by googling “nylon spacer”, but thanks for clues

edit: actually I did find some stuff about it… this might be what I need.

Okay, I may have figured it out. You replace the existing nylon spacer with one that has a slightly bigger Outer Diameter? Seems like you’d be talking microscopic amounts. Wouldn’t want to damage the switches by using too big. I guess I’ll have to experiment with different sizes. Thanks for that info. I wouldn’t have thought of that.

No, something like this

I will check that out. Thanks man!

Okay, I had kind of figured that out and even found the some model numbers at home depot. What I wanted to do differently though is preserve the diameter of the actuator where it actuates the switches. I’m thinking, of basically the same as what you did, but with only the tip of the actuator covered so it does shorten the throw against the square gate, but doesn’t against the switches. They already seem tight, ya know. I like where it clicks but not how far the stick moves past that. I measured the diameter of the actuator and its 0.430 inches or around 27/64. Closest common size is probably 3/8=0.375, so it would have to be widened. The outer diameter of what should be used was a little harder to measure. A 1/2 outer diameter (Model # 87308) might help a little, but I saw one that was 0.5625 OD (Model # 87318), that might be perfect.

Oh, I can answer this easy. What you need to do is get the same spacer I used on the LS-40 (because it will do the same thing to the 56) and cut it in half vertically because as you noted, you only want it to hit the gate and not the switches. All I did was after getting the inner diameter right, I cut it in half with a razor. Nice thing about the LS-56 is that you don’t need to widen the inner diameter as much, other than that it’s the same mod.

I just measured the outer diameter of the spacer, it’s about 14mm or 9/16, so look for one in that size which turns out to be the .5625 OD model.

Okay, I did one and posted pics on VFDC (cause it’s easier)

feel free to use those pics to help explain this mod…

Yep, that was exactly how I did the mod. Not very difficult, how do you like the feel so far?

It’ll take getting used to. I do like it though. Makes things easier for me…
