Megaman all though cheap as fuck, is still low tier enough not to be excluded. He’s @ the top of the low tier in the format I posted up. The faster characters counter him out so it not like he’s @ the top of throne laughing @ all the other low tiers.
VDO is my fucking low tier hero. Dood is fucking nasty with double wolvie\ken AA. and vdo’s ability to put his chi into his stick is unrivaled in marvel
yo zack, heard you 5-1 zhou for money. Good shit! where did this shit happen and how come I wasn’t there to witness it? also, way to knock j360 off the stick. Those 2 round were nasty as fuck.
That was just before the final 8, on the right Marvel TV. I don’t like to play Megaman seriously until the tournament and afterwards… which sucked since I was in the Sunday brackets. Megaman is pretty dirty against speed/close-touch reliant characters. Then again, his lack of range gets to be pretty crippling. He’s pretty solidly middle tier, but just goofy enough to be fun for me to play. // Thanks.
Yeah, VDO’s Ken is a whole 'nother level. But then again, most people who have kept jamming on their favorite characters until they find out all the secrets play in ways that most of us have forgotten were possible. Hayato and Shuma can be pretty great, but most of us haven’t seen good players for either in a long time. It’s way too easy to pick top tiers or top tier assists and just kill those guys cold. Oh well: any low tier tourney can be a nice showcase for low tier madness. =\
I’m planning on having a low-tier tourney of my own at my College, sometime in the Fall semester. I asked a few fellows about who to ban, what would be fair and whatnot and can’t really think of much; simply ban the god tiers. I don’t like Tron, but at the same time don’t mind if her assist stays. Same with the top tier and assists. It seems to work fine in the videos presented and the tiers below the Gods seem narrow enough to not seem a problem.
I also read this and another thread, and someone presented a ratio system. To me this is interesting but overall seems to restrictive (again, see the videos). Besides in a tourney, I’m sure people want to just get the ball rolling and not bicker over the technical stuff.
So this is it:
System: Dreamcast
Tournament rules: Probably elimination
PLEASE don’t direct link to matches on my site - I rename videos all the time. These for example should be renamed (no teams in the title, different spelling of “low tier” between the three). <3
Yeah, I was thinking of using the point system; isn’t that how they do it over at Mikado arcade?
The problem I was thinking was that what if there are too many entrants in the tournament? Then it might take too long to complete. But yeah, I’d prefer point to elimination rules.
Whoops, sorry Preppy. I wasn’t aware of you doing that with the links. That’s the problem I ran into earlier when I tried to post some links of Kanu in the Rushdown terror thread.
And yes, those are the videos I tried to link to. Thanks for fixing that.
What did you American MvC2 players think of the Canadians and their low-tier tourney?
I’d really like to hear what people thought of those matches, partly because I was surprised they were Canadian (:wow:) and partly because I thought they were really, really good matches. I mean, this one guy playing Rogue wasn’t pulling VDO shit, but he knew the deal. The fact it looked so much fun was what gave me the idea for a tourney in the first place.
I would think everyone would jump at the idea to see good low-tier matches. Aren’t you tired of seeing Magneto, Storm, Sentinel and Cable do their thing? I got tired of seeing it back in 2002.
I followed the link to the first set so far and didn’t really get much of a kick out of the game-play until about the last match involving a decent Ryu. There appears to be less fighting and more spamming for the most part (maybe evidence that these guys don’t usually play low-tier?), but it’s still good to see diversion from the norm, I guess.
I honestly believe that anyone in this tournament who knew how to block 1/2 way decently, had an idea of some blockstrings/pressure, learned some BnBs w/ and/or w/o assists, make proper use of and be patient with assist counter-calling, would have done well. Again, the Ryu player of the last match displayed this on a decent level and he only lost 1 character, I think? I’ll watch the other sets later.
edit: The 1st match of Joker vs Unknown is decent (Chun/Charlie/Doom for the win). It broke my heart to see Joker rob himself of damage on that Iceman AC into super when he needed it for the win.
edit2: "I need my stick…"
After loss: “I’m going to get my stick back. Fuck that shit.”
I’d put this at casual low-tier.
Fun matches.
edit3: On the 3rd vid. So is Chun/Charlie/Doom Joker’s team? I thought Joker was p1 of the 2nd vid who used Spidey…
I liked this one match where the Ryu player lost his point early on to a Jill, Doom and Juggy. He takes out Juggy, but has Jill and Doom to pressure him for awhile, plus they kill his colossus. Then Jill gets magic series in the air, knocking him down then rushes over for a meaty. Ken wakes up with a Shinryuken - perfect timing. Then this one guy starts saying “e-gay-ohh…e-gay-ohh” and nails Jill again with Shinryuken when tries a lazy jump-in. I couldn’t stop laughing at the end when ken jumps up, does an air shoryuken and comes down right on Jill’s missile barrage.
No, that was another player who Preppy couldn’t identify like the other vids and listed as unknown. Joker had Spidey, Iceman and Guile. Then he had Commando, Juggy and Spidey.
Also I like the match with the Silver Samurai. This one part where he successfully gets Zangief assist on, and then uses the Raimeken super and everyone just starts screaming for joy. Its like he lost the match but still won in a way.
So much fun.
What are you looking for? No, these guys aren’t on Vidness, VDO or Justin Wong level, but they’re at the very least decent. I didn’t expect Master level stuff and I came away more than satisfied. These are damn good videos. I could FEEL the energy and fun emanating from the Laptop screen. I haven’t felt this much in to matches for some time.
I am not a pro or anything but to me it seems like you could easly just say the entire God/Top/maybe Upper is banned. Also if you wanted take the Top/Notible assit list and ban them to that would be possible.
Ratio 2 Characters (combinable with Ratio 1 only):
Cyclops
Psylocke
Captain Commando
Cammy
Blackheart
Dr. Doom
Strider
Megaman
Iceman
Omega Red
Rogue
T.Bonne
Ratio 1 Characters:
Every other character in the game
It looks the most reasonable for me and the community should probably make this official for all low tier tournaments.
Very interesting set-up. I’m not even sure of who I would play…so funny the regulations have to be in order to attempt this stability.
The matches would still be clutch, though. Not bad. If I were to show at this tourney, I’d enjoy running a mix of Ryu-Y/Thanos-A/Ken-A and Akuma-Y/Thanos-A/Ken-A.
Hopefully, there will be vids of this one available afterwards, DjNocturnal?
