I think Payback was Gibson’s best action flick. Great movie.
As we’re approaching the end of the year and there’s a few titles that looks to be great -Django Unchained for instance- I’d like to recommend one other picture:
Moonrise Kingdom. Probably best film of 2012. Very well done. Funny. Emotional. Not maudlin in the least. And pretty unique. Even if you hate Wes Anderson films you have to check this one out.
point blank which is also based on the hunter is a million times better although for some reason i like payback a lot too
i recommend this movie

Dredd 3D: Best action flick of 2012. Better than The Raid. WAY better than the Stallone flick. Check it out.
that seems premature with Taken 2 coming out today!
I feel bad though now cause I haven’t seen The Raid or Exp2 yet (and now I want to see Dredd 3d).
Louis how can you say anyone would like Moonrise Kingdom even if they don’t like Wes Anderson? It’s a really great film but its sooooo Anderson. Seems like he has reached an impressive maturity with his creative quirks sure but man it was way cute. Not sentimental sure but cute and weird and detailed just like all the rest.
I’m not a huge fan of Rushmore or Life Aquatic though they have their charms. It just seemed like Moonrise is an overall improvement on his past works.
I like all his stuff, even Darjeeling Limited. But I agree with you about the overall improvement he’s achieved in Moonrise K.
darjeeling limited was fucking awful.
wes anderson is pathetic. he figured out his formula and has ridden it for like 4 movies now. because people encourage it and it makes money. you’d think at some point he would grow a spine and stretch himself.
Finally saw OldBoy, thru Netflix. Still on there under Foreign but not subtitled, dubbed.
Girl named some form of Nitto, didn’t look up the real spelling. And someone once said something to the effect “Afro Rom reminds me of Odaisu from OldBoy”
There’s your movie tie ins back to 3s forum. Can’t really discuss the movie, I didn’t understand it even as a crazy AZN. Usual school/brother/sister involved flashbacks tropes all around though. Korean stuff more Psychological messing with people than others? Fantastic location, that penthouse reminded of Bittersweet Life’s gangster bar and the SEGA Yakuza water walkway marble underground Purgatory Palace.
Haha Louis, I guess no matter how refined Wes gets some folks are sick of his schtick.
What about the other Anderson. You guys see The Master yet? Putting whatever problems I might have with the movie aside, Joaquin Phoenix did an outstanding job.
a friend of mine is in The Master! just an extra but still kinda cool
That is cool.
because his schtick is tired.
So did anyone see The Master? Tebbo? Louis?
As is the case with anything really good it has not come out anywhere near to where I live. So I’m keeping an eye on the torrents.
That’s a shame Louis. Nice cinematography looks nice on the big screen.
Hey what about Waking Life? Linklater developed his rotoscoping technique on this movie. Not so dark but can get a little uncomfortable to sit through as it meanders, especially if you’re mind is altered.
Nice. Watched Waking Life in Film Class.
Might want to try to find my notes on that again, I was a good enough film student, man, what happened. Can’t really remembered what happened besides it was warping and melting and vector resizing before your eyes, yeah. Pretty experimental.
^ Someone watched El Topo on acid.
