Louis' Movie Recommendations w/ commentary

Always liked Predator 2, not so much 1.

all this talk about movies and no fucking mention of highlander? waht the fuck is this shit?

Also, SF4 isn’t so bad. I’ve been playing Ibuki and the game to be more fun. Mainly because she’s a noob stomper and I can combo whenever I want, plus hitconfirming is so much easier in that game its silly.

It’s not 3S… But hey, I don’t care. Only options I got are PS3 sometimes and GGPO. When I log on nobodies on.

PS Louisipher, your movie selections suck for the most part. Man on fire was fucking gay and was the equivalent of a black guy playing the main role in Crank or some shit. All said, I enjoyed reading.

Isn’t the only good one considered the first and all of the sequels are terrible? Gave yourself away there. You probably love part 2 and that direct to TV Sy Fy film.

The Departed was written by Martin Scorscese kekekekekekekekekekekekekek

Persoooooonaaaa

No, in the end, there should have been only one.

Also, no fucks given about anyone’s opinion, UP is one of the most emotion jerking films of all time and is an absolute masterpiece all round.

UP certainly is. My favorite animated film by far. Before that, Mindgame.

Those first 10 minutes, man. Killed me inside. But it was a beautiful death.

mindgaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaameeeeeeeeeeeeeee. great movie.

I thought Ted (2012) was pretty good. A fun comedy to watch and I really don’t like Family Guy past season 3 or Seth’s other shows.

BTW: I really hate The Departed. First time I saw it I liked it. Second time was a mistake. Nicholson gives this extremely ott performance and Leo is a complete fucking joke as an actor in this film and Blood Diamond. The other actors were good but I don’t know the story just didn’t interest me, perhaps because it revolved around Nicholson and Dicaprio so much.

Not worth a fucking Oscar that’s for sure.

Also as far as underrated sequels I forgot Diehard 3 with a Vengeance. But I think a lot of people like that one so I don’t know if that counts as underrated or not.

I really didn’t like the new Spiderman movie. Just seemed pointless. And I’m not a fan of the original trilogy either.

$5 say’s that Bane breaks Batman’s back towards the end.

I really like(d) The Departed, but I don’t disagree with your criticisms for the most part. I dug the story/plot, Wahlberg’s character/Walhberg, the soundtrack, the part at the end with Wahlberg (no spoiler), the suspense, and Wahlberg’s brutal verbal assault of DiCaprio in the office. Oh and Wahlberg’s character.

Nicholson was totally bland/hambone, for sure, but I’d much rather watch a phoned-in, bland, ham Nicholson than 98% of actors. And it was worth it to see him say “No tickie, no laundry.”

Trivia question… anyone know anything about the song that plays as the end credits start to roll?

Dafuq? I haven’t seen Predator 2 since I was 14 and will probably never see it again, but I remember it being pretty ass. Maybe I fell victim to exactly what Louis said - realized halfway through that it didn’t have Schwarzenegger or the jungle (JUNGLE STRIKE) and wrote it off.

I dunno, I just thought that the first one had a great build-up of suspense as you slowly figure out what the enemy is and realize that people are dying in a hurry. You can’t recreate that mystery in a sequel, which is part of why I think the first Terminator is on a whole other level above the second, and also why Meet the Parents is one of my favorite comedies while Meet the Fockers didn’t do much for me.

I would write a lot more about this and maybe I will when I’m not so tired, but man I LOVE The Terminator. I think it’s incredibly frightening. I realized a few years ago that I actually have nightmares of the Terminator archetype not infrequently (unstoppable force coming to get you), and I love the grittiness of it. Like, the police station scene? Doesn’t get any better than that for me. Michael Biehn is fucking godlike in it (and in Tombstone), and this might sound ridiculous but I actually think the love story/sex scene is A+, especially for a science fiction/horror movie. Love T2 as well but it’s just an outstanding action movie to me whereas the first one is really a masterpiece that can’t be compared to any other film I’ve seen.

Don’t mean to hijack your thread with my own random movie reviews Louis, if that is hijacking the thread (not really sure its exact intent), but on that note, I’m curious to hear more about the Alien 3 pre-production drama if you have a minute.

Not to jack Louis’ steam but the wiki article on Alien 3 has a pretty good summary. On a side note I recommend checking out Alien 3 directors cut.

Eraserhead is now on Hulu: http://www.hulu.com/watch/377448

I think it’s free to watch.

A learned man on show times and what the hell this is. Get that -_- face chick vampire booty man!

Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight is my Horror go to film.

Wanted to see this when it was on Comcast for a few bucks, forgot before it went off listings:

Watched this with film class buddies when it was on netflix, great drama, though I didn’t get the woman deal, even as the most AZN in the room. Very jealous of their gangster bar location and the shadow boxing window mirrored shot near dead on, probably used angles and mirrors. 2 shot, combine possibly.

Finished watching Barry Lyndon. Great film. Nothing to really criticize except at times you do feel the length. I would consider it a lesser Kubrick film not because it’s bad but it’s not as approachable or as quotable as his other works.

Horror recommendations on Netflix instant. Why? Because I’m the horror guy.

I Spit on Your Grave: The original 1978 masterpiece of exploitation. Ignore the remake. How do I recommend this one? This is frequently on top 10 lists for most disturbing movies. It’s a very well done, feminist rape-revenge film. Probably the best rape revenge movie (better than Last House on the Left for my money) and it’s genuinely cringe-inducing and memorable for all the right reasons. The acting is pretty damn good aside from the guy who does an overexaggerated Woody Allen impression. Check it out. It blows my mind that this film is on Netflix. What’s next? Cannibal Holocaust?

Black Sabbath: Old school gothic anthology horror by the great Mario Bava and starring Boris Karlof. If you like old school horror or anthologies I’d recommend it, just the Drop Of Water segment alone is worth checking out.

The Eternal Evil of Asia: Another title where I’m mind fucked that it’s on Netflix. One of the more memorable Hong Kong Catagory III films. Catagory III (or CAT III) is HK’s equivalent to the NC-17 and during the early 90’s during the great new wave of HK filmmakers making their mark and before their move to Hollywood there came a wave of ultra violent mostly true-crime inspired flicks such as The Untold Story (AKA Bunman) and Red to Kill. Eternal Evil of Asia is not like those films but it is CAT III due to sex and some light hearted violence. It’s basically a witch story. You know, group of guys fuck with the wrong magician/witch/evil entity and it seeks revenge. What follows is a lot of humor, some gore, possession, and a guy who’s head is transformed into a dick. Check it out.

Living Dead Girl: Probably Jean Rollin’s most accessible film. A take on the zombie picture done as only the French can do. Replete with tits and gore. A classic existential gore film. Other Jean Rollin movies that I’d recommend would be Demoniacs, Fascination, and Night of the Hunted.

Deep Red: Dario Argento’s international break through, the film that inspired John Carpenter’s Halloween. Classic murder mystery slasher (known as the Gialli). A little slow around the middle but highly recommended.

The Burning: Classic Slasher film. Tom Savini gore effects, a killer with sheers, George Castanza with hair, that kid from Last American Virgin. One of the great Slasher movies. Some people don’t like it because they feel it’s slow, I never thought it was slow, I thought it had a lot of great character development you don’t often see (especially today).

Scarecrows: Basically a zombie picture, only replace zombies with scarecrows. A couple of thieves find themselves stranded in a corn field looking for a defector all while holding the pilot and his daughter hostage. Scarecrows rise from their grave and kill them all. Check it out.

Other Slashers: Hell Night, Sleepaway Camp 2, and Slumber Party Massacre. The later two are basically parodies of the genre while providing tits and gore. Hell Night is actually pretty well done. Likeable characters, some gore, great suspense, and Linda Blair (she does not take out the twins though). The other two are fun flicks.

Humanoids from the Deep: Want to see an old school monster flick with tits and gore and it rips off Alien at the end? Sure you do!

Three… Extremes: Anthology horror from some of the masters of Asian Horror. No spoilers from me, check it out.

Dead and Buried: Classic mystery horror flick written by the guys who wrote Alien. Some great gore and enough twists to keep you glued. Watch it.

BTW: They have Friday the 13th parts 1-9 available. If you haven’t seen them before, watch part 1, then 4, and then 6.

You know, I don’t get the appeal of Mezzo Forte. The action is pretty decent but the characters come off as smug douchebags and there’s too much bullshit in between the action. There’s no real character development, it’s just the 3 main characters and the mob boss and his daughter shooting the shit, maybe eating, not doing much else.

I think Kite was the better work. The sex scenes played a part in the film and weren’t just thrown in there, the action is even crazier then Mezzo Forte, and the characters I thought were likable. Plus it has a jazz soundtrack and feels little like Cowboy Bebop.

Only genuinely good thing about Mezzo Forte are the sex scenes. And if you’re watching it for that, there’s way better hentai out there.

Are you one of those people who like to think that by watching movies nobody else has ever even heard from makes themselves special? Just though I’d ask.

Are you one of those guys that comes off as a dick without trying?

The answer is no to your question by the way.

im willing to bet louie has watched the movies most people have seen also.
