Louis' Movie Recommendations w/ commentary

I haven’t seen Baraka or Manufactured Landscapes but I would recommend the soundtrack to Koyaanisqatsi. Great shit. The film is good but it’s either something you get right away or you don’t. That’s how I’d describe Samsara excluding an amazing soundtrack.

Baraka is worth it for the monkey chant scene alone

I just got my copy of “Martyrs” today. Curious to see if this movie is as hard to sit through as some have claimed.

Not sure why I have such an urge to watch movies like this. I’d probably even watch A Serbian Film if I had a chance, despite the description making it sound beyond awful and disgusting.

I really liked Martyrs. Fantastic French Horror flick that goes to unexpected places. Serbian Film is an amazing film as well.

Other disturbing masterpieces:

Cannibal Holocaust
Salo: The 120 Days of Sodom.
Aftermath
Man Behind the Sun
Black Sun: The Nanking Massacre
Nekromantik 2
I Spit on Your Grave
Irreversible
Guinea Pig: Flower of Flesh and Blood
In A Glass Cage

Louis have you seen Room 237, the Shining documentary?

You just reminded me about that one. Going to try to watch it tomorrow. I have like 5-10 other movies I have to watch too…

Martyrs was nihilism on a Blu-ray Disc.

Saw Room 237. Very well made but you could get the same experience from reading insane IMDB message board posts.

What did you think of that but about the guys who overlapped the movie playing forward and backward?

The whole thing about Kubrick helping to fake the moon landing was definitely pretty far out there.

That was interesting but it couldn’t save the docu.

Tried watching the Schwarzenegger flick The Last Stand and got like 20 minutes in before it bored me. Schwarzenegger is too old, though I will give the next Conan flick a chance.

Finished watching Valhalla Rising. DAMN good art house, viking, horror film. Total 180’ compared to Zack Snyder’s 300. It could best be described as a grim and realistic take on the “Barbarian” movie. Similar to Conan the Barbarian in some ways. Highly recommended.

Amazing Arthouse/Horror/Scifi/Acid trip.

I watched the 40 year old virgin again the other day.

That scene where Seth Rogan is sitting at his type writer smoking a jay and then he says “But Dad, I don’t know how to love. You never taught me how”.

Gold.

I like Judd Apatow movies. Though I always find the last 10 or so minutes to be really lacking in each one.

On a somewhat related note Observe and Report with Seth Rogan is underrated as fuck.

Is it now? Will watch it soon, then. I was afraid that since it was meant to compete with Mall Cop, that I wouldn’t really enjoy it given the shitty competition.

Observe and Report is like a comedic Taxi Driver. Absolutely nothing like Paul Blart or whatever. I recommend it.

Saw Jurassic Park in 3-D tonight. Still an amazing film.

Yeah, Observe and Report is a very dark comedy and I respect that. Not Laugh Out Loud funny but a really fucked up story that sticks. There’s still some really funny moments though.

Thoughts on JP (not Pherai) in I’m Still Here? There was real shit on the line with this “doc” and I respect the effect even if it fell just a little short.

It’s a great performance. But in terms of entertainment value his appearance on Letterman is all you need to see.

Didn’t you appreciate how Kaufman-esk the whole endeavor was?

Kaufman did it better. Kaufman could be genuine and make you 2nd guess everything.

Watch My Breakfast With Blassie. His take on My Dinner With Andre with wrestler Freddie Blassie.
