Losing for all ages! The new Rage thread (with props to Gruntsworthy)

Glad for this thread and that we’re not alone. Spilling it because it feels good…

Learning the basics of Makoto vs 500 PP - 1000 PP (steam/PC) players was/is a gigantic pain. They still slip a victory if I’m not sharp. They will hone your punish skills and wake you up in the morning, or convince you to go to bed

In 1000 - 2000 PP, Dudley is my nightmare, Guy right behind him. Blocking and teching for your life is fun and all, but how about old U2 back? Giving it up for corner escape (maybe) was too good?

Not so fondly recall dashing behind Balrog’s ultra with Ryu. So is this is when you “know”?

I will close by launching M.Bison through an airplane. Nice to see many Makoto enthusiasts in one place

I hope this thread is not dead, I picked up makoto a week ago, I have been playing boxer since Super, but always liked makoto, and everytime I fought one a trembled in fear, and now that I picked her up, I just can’t win, at the beginning I lost simply because the players I fought were too good since, I had 2000 PP, I refused to use boxer until I got better with her, now I have 400 PP, worst of all I do better against higher PP player, but the ones that are low, its just frustating, they seem to always be spamming jabs, or shoryus, I try to go for Fm.p. F.l.k command grab and I get hit by random things, the players around 1500 PP actually get scared and fall for it and I manage to win, but I can’t believe how angry I get against “bad” players that are throwing random things…

I know what you mean. One thing that I had to learn was that you need different game plans against those types of players. Let them kill themselves. You don’t always have to pressure. They’ll jump at you and just AA. Against players that are scared, you can get away with more. Against those that aren’t scared, you need to find ways to make them sit still or just punish them for not being patient.

For those that push a lot of buttons, you’ll land a lot more ex oroshi’s. Against those that upper on wake up, find ways to bait it, for example use s.lk right before they stand up. It looks like you are going to hit them on their wake up and moves you back. What this does is scares them into doing a shoryu and protects you from wake up throw as it moves you out of the range (most of the time).

Sometimes applying pressure is just being in front of them. You don’t need to push buttons all the time. Add some safe jumps. It’ll help against the slower uppercuts and give you the option to do the empty jump version so that a 3 frame upper whiffs.

fLK is not very good though. fLK > karakusa gives a 10 frames hole, that’s a lot. fLk is good to juggle after ex hayate or for his kara properties but alone, it is way worse than fMP.
fLK : -4 in guard, -1 when it hits
fMP : 0 in guard, +3 when it hits
They both have a 7f startup.

i call complete and utter bullshit on makoto’s lack of defense! all I can do is block and half the time I can’t decide which way to block because this stupid game has ambigious jump ins all over the place. I can’t tell if im getting crossed up or not, and sometimes it just seems unblockable.

BIGGEST FLAW in this stupid game, BLOCKING!

been playing sf for years and this is the first game where blocking is such an issue for me… good job crapcom!

Petition Capcom for a Mortal Kombat ‘block’ button?
