Lord of the Dark Dimension, the Dormammu thread

In his Debut trailer he blocks one of Chris’ attacks then the scene immediately transitions to Ryu getting knocked back by some sort of odd looking purple attack that goes out from Dormammu in a circle.

Also in the debut trailer he hits someone with an entirely different pillar that appeared to be made of magma or something.

Yeah, I figured that block thing was probably a trick of the editing and not an actual move. I did mention the red fiery pillar in my list, too, and the only time I saw that pillar as opposed to the purple one it was immediately followed by meteors, which is why I think they may be connected.

Yea it was a magma spike that popped Chris up for a relaunch

I love his line when he uses the ball hyper.

I’m talking about a third pillar, . He knocks Chris down with his untechable grounder, powers up then relaunches Chris with this attack. Also… the opening poke he uses to start the ground-air-knockdown combo seems to have really good range

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. I’d be willing to guess that it’s actually the same as the other fiery pillar I mentioned, just with no powerups to fuel it. You’ll notice the powerup he uses immediately before it is the purple/blue one, not the red one, so if my guess from before is correct, it wouldn’t have any effect on that magma spike pillar.

Edit: He does it later on in the trailer, but it’s bigger and also seems to summon meteors, around the :52 second mark.

Would be sort of lame if the special consumed the blue power up but didn’t actually gain anything from it =/

Oh also, he activates his red power up twice, not sure if that does anything though, and then immediately creates a small explosion in front of himself, consuming the red power up. The attack whiffs, so no idea on the properties.

… Dormammu has a LOT of moves.

so so far, for power ups we’ve seen

“Fire Explosion in front of him”
“red fire column that OTG pops”
“red fire column + meteor”
“Crapton of Meteors, no column first”
“the ‘stay grounded’ move”

This is from watching the video and trying to figure out what consumes the power-ups.

Thanks, I added that explosion move to my list. And yeah, he does have quite a few moves, and the fact that some of them seem to have very different properties depending on what powerups Dormammu’s used beforehand just adds to the number and the complexity. Still, it’s gonna be worth it to continually rain meteors and all kinds of other attacks down on the enemy.

looking like the various meteors use both hands, no matter what (from rewatching all the films). So its at least 2 power ups. Hard to tell tho :stuck_out_tongue:

also, the ground thing you mentioned () seems to make jumping worse or impossible, if you’re trying to make a complete list

edit: I hope his lvl 3 is void based >> Also the ground thing looks like it might have a d,d input, he’s like stagger ducking before he does it. (I love trying to figure this shit out :D)

Regarding the meteors, when he does it with three charges in that video (something like 2 red, 1 blue), the damage on Chun Li is close to a level 1 super’s amount of damage. Very cool.

I also made that note about the ground pulse. What I’m wondering is if that move is in fact the same move as the small fire patch that he can place in front of him. My current thought is that that move with no powerup is the small fire patch, that move with the purple charge is the floor pulse that glues the enemy’s feet down, and that move with a red charge might be the explosion in front of him that was mentioned a few posts up.

Could be a possibility, but I"m not sure… since all three of those moves are completely different in purpose… fire trap controls space, floor patch slows movement, fire explosion … dunno what it does exactly as far as knockdown/back and damage…

my guess is that its various buttons with x movements where a is fire b is darkness, c is both, and in general, more power ups on a side just increase the power of the move (or add properties).

When I get back from going out (if I’m not too drunk) I’ll take the time to try to see what moves are associated with what hands. It should be fun!

Alright, I watched the three videos we have of Dormammu with a more critical eye, and I’ve cleaned up my list somewhat. First off, those three videos are:

Dormammu Trailer (DT) -
Match Vid 1 (MV1) - Dorm/IM/Thor vs. Dante/VJ/Ammy -
Match Vid 2 (MV2) - Dorm/Skrull/Doom vs. VJ/Chris/Chun Li -

I refer to these videos by the shorthand in parantheses in the movelist. For most of the moves, I note the number of powerups of each color that Dormammu has accumulated at the time he uses the move, but not all of his moves use them up. I noted which ones I could tell definitely did not use up his charges.

EDIT: Windsagio has graciously added in links to all the timestamps, which I have now edited into this post.

  • Purple (or blue) hand power up move

  • Red hand power up move
    – , you get the powerup even if hit out of the move early (he doesn’t even say his line and still gets a blue glow)

  • Purple Pillar
    – DT 0:20, Right hand, 0 powerups
    – OTGs after aerial combo knockdown
    – Does NOT use up either powerup color (UOk0b2DPgFY#t=00m26s"]MV2 0:27 and [)

  • Inferno (Red Magma Spike)
    – , Right Hand, 1 Purple powerup
    – OTGs after aerial combo knockdown

  • Inferno (Larger Magma Spike) -> Meteors (affected by BOTH powerups)
    – , 1 Red powerup, 1 Purple powerup
    – The larger spike and the meteors do not combo together by themselves
    — MV1 0:54, 2 Red powerups, 1 Purple powerup, all are gone after move executes

  • Meteors (definitely affected by BOTH powerups)
    – , both hands, 0 powerups
    – OTGs after aerial combo knockdown
    — , 1 Red powerup, 1 Purple powerup
    ---- , 1 Red powerup, 2 Blue powerups
---- Meteors are bigger and do a large chunk of damage to Chun Li, comparable to some level 1 supers

  • Big gravity ball
    –
    – Also performable in air
    – Varying ranges, likely based on which button is used to activate
    – One of Dormammu’s assists ()
    – Does NOT use up either powerup color (UOk0b2DPgFY#t=00m25s"]MV2 0:27](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx2lEGYQbbw#t=00m48s"[/media) and [)

  • Purple dart projectile
    – QhoJhIOvq3M#t=00m46s"]DT 0:47](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx2lEGYQbbw#t=00m49s"[/media) and , right hand, 0 powerups
    – Causes wallbounce on hit

  • Floor Pulse
    – , 3 Purple powerups
    – Seems to glue the opponent to the floor, either for a length of time or until they are hit (in this example, VJ cannot jump for 5 seconds but is hit, so it’s impossible to tell whether it’s time or contact based)

  • Floor Flames
    – , 0 powerups
    – Flames appear on floor directly in front of Dormammu, seem to stay around much like a Trish trap
    — , 0 powerups
    — Comboed into from a ground normal

  • Explosion directly in front of Dormammu
    – MV1 , 2 Red powerups
    – It whiffed =(

  • Purple Body Burst
    – , 0 powerups (that I can see in the one frame before he uses it, anyway)
    – Catches a falling Ryu and knocks him back up to be hit by Chaotic Flames super

  • Teleport
    –
    – Places Dormammu into the air and behind the opponent
    – Seems to be performable in air ()

  • Flight,

And for one last observation, in , Dormammu uses the Chaotic Flames super and does not lose his Red powerups.

Magma spike is called Inferno (same name as Blackheart’s move, but different in design).

at DV :56, immediately after the scene transition. Dormammu does some sort of purple PBAoE effect, really hard to see in the youtube video if you aren’t meticulous. Chris jumps in and attacks him, attack gets blocked, scene immediately transitions to Ryu getting knocked back by this purple stuff and then hypered.

Oh, and the meteor with one red and two blue followed by his vortex did something like 30% to chun.

Okay, this bugged me, so I went and watched it frame by frame, and it looks like you’re right. I had initially assumed that this was an initial hit of the super, but that does not appear to be the case.

I linkified everything if you wanna repost it, I feel challenged by your superior attention to detail!

(If I messed anything up retyping the references, sorry >>)

Edit: Having just wtached these clips over and over, I totally love his voice clips, especially “ASSIST ME!” He’s so bossy

Am I the only one who loved when he yelled run, run when he launched the fireball

Definitely using him. Reminds me of Trish who I am using too.

Thanks for doing the timestamp linking for me. Since you quoted my post, it wouldn’t let me see my nested quote when I went to grab the updated list, so I instead added an edit to my list to see your post for the version with timestamp links.
