Saying a mass shooting is wrong and equating that to giving a six year old gun aren’t the same issue.
There’re thousands of families that live on farm land or wooded areas where you do need to own a firearm. Not to mention for your own safety from people. There is nothing wrong with teaching the training, respect and safety of owning firearms.
It’s also easy for people outside the US to think we should all rely on police for safety when most here don’t fucking trust them. Hell I worked for the police for damn near a decade and should a problem arise if I can handle it myself they’d be the last people I’d call. Edit: Yeah cause I’m black.
Mass shootings are a lot more complicated than people think and believe the solutions are just soo simple.
Then responsibilities failed on a different front.
And you’re right it’s very easy to get a gun here, but it isn’t legally. No other country has as many citizens armed or the number of guns in circulation as the US. There is no quick or easy solution.
This isn’t really true. While you can by a firearm at many locations (which varies wildly from place to place), it is not actually as simple as walking up to the counter and asking for one.
Dude, I’m from Rio. I really understand police distrust, especially if you’re black. The numbers are enough evidence.
There is a difference between old McDonald having a gun in his farm and the kind of heat that goes around your country.
Now I ain’t gonna act all smug and say “There can’t be shootings without guns!” but you need some regulation and you need some education. I see this as a cultural issue. The rampant racism you see in a lot of states really doesn’t help.
I don’t think this can really be solved in less than 2 or 3 generations, but there should be some steps in toning down the racism and gun violence issues the US has.
Because of that, yes, I think guns should be heavily regulated.
Most shootings are done with “Old McDonald” type guns.
I’m not going to say there are no issues, but I would refrain from using the media depictions of a countries culture as your main reference point. It paints the US is just a ridiculous a color palette as it does for other countries.
They are extremely regulated already. Unless you are supporting banning (which is another discussion), its probably better to suggest a specific regulation, rather than just say “more regulations”.
How are they heavily regulated if even a teenager is able to own an assault rifle?
I do agree it’s a cultural thing, Switzerland is armed to the theet and it doesn’t have a mass shooting per week.
Also iirc the most used guns in mass shootings are handguns and semi automatic rifles not exactly the kind of gun I would point at a coyote or a bear
A teenager can’t purchase such a firearm nor can they legally own one.
Also, that term “assault rifle” it doesn’t actually mean anything. Most proposed definitions (the government has not settled on a definition) simply refer to the appearance of a weapon and don’t address functionality at all.
Hell yes they are. Especially those sorts of animals.
You need a very large calibur weapon for bears. In fact, most large calibur hand guns are marketed for bear defence. It’s actually a running joke about being in an arms race with bears.
