I’ve only played a handful of matches online so it’s hard for me to say how great the gameplay is at a high level or whatever, but I can honestly say that I’ve never had so much fun in a training mode, than I have in MVCI’s just trying to come up with ridiculous combos.
Unfortunately, yeah, the community isn’t big. The Chun-Li and “characters are just functions” memes, shit models, poor presentation, disappointing roster, lack of support, and the anticipation for DBFZ killed MVCI well before it launched.
Its honestly very frustrating at the start. Their whole goal is they want you to figure out everything yourself, but its a videogame and I its not my idea of fun. I understand a lot more now and things are making more sense, but I basically fail-stated myself and 100% have to start the game from scratch as there is no possible way to continue where I am at.
I will NEVER intentionally take an L for the sake of a company continuing to do shit. It only encourages them that their shit don’t stink.
I would’ve run out and bought SamSho at Midnight if it had good netcode. It didn’t. I don’t care how good the game is otherwise, I honestly do not have the time in my day to take the drive out to potential locals between work and university. I’m not giving SNK $60 for a game that will collect dust on my shelf as a sign of good faith. They don’t have my good faith. No one does.
I mean yeah that’s a reasonable stance to have but its not good for Samsho. At the end of the year when SNK looks at the sales from Samsho and sees its lacking, they aren’t gonna say “man the game would’ve moved more units with better netcode”. They’ll just assume it’s unpopular and can it.
And if they do, it’s not my problem. I honestly don’t care. It is not MY responsibility to pay for a game so everyone else can enjoy it. If I’m going to use $60 like that, I’d rather give it to a charity.
See, there it is again. If you guys want to spend money on a game you can’t play (some do have locals and obviously that’s great) then more power to you. I’m not going to condemn anyone else for doing what they want to do with their own money and time.
I personally want to spend my money on things I can actually play and enjoy. I’m sure someone is thinking “well, what would happen if a game YOU enjoyed died because other people didn’t buy it?!”. My answer would be “Well it sucks, but that’s life. I’ll move on.”. I can support scenes if I wish by playing the games I enjoy, maybe getting out to Majors if time ever permits (though that’s unlikely at my current stage of life). What I won’t do is spend money on something I legitimately cannot play outside of useless single player. And it’s actually infuriating that some of you actually EXPECT me to do so in order for the franchise to continue. In order to get the fabled “Well, with all this support we’ll DEFINITELY get a SamSho with good netcode in the future!”. SNK has not released a single game in their entire history with good netcode. It’s only when third party developers are tasked with porting their games do they have a chance of a decent netcode, that’s it. Old SNK, SNK-Playmore, New SNK. It’s the same old story every time no matter the logo. At no point has SNK ever even inclined they see an issue with their current netcode.
I mean shit, it’s almost like a worse Kickstarter at this point. Paying for promises that were never made. That’s not my thing. If I get lambasted for my decision, so be it.
Saitsu is just being obtuse for the sake of it. Because rather than admit that there’s a massive, enourmous, glaring issue with Sajam’s stance that has impacted us before, he needs to tell us about his spending habits.
This isn’t about your spending habits, this is about the legit unblockable we have when dealing with this stuff. We can’t get certain things because companies aren’t really selling with a dialogue in mind.
Who cares about your wallet? This is about an actual issue with the consumer transaction happening with Japanese companies. Its also a secondary with smaller devs like French Bread and Arika. We can either support the game as is or tell them to eat a dick and then we’re boned in the future.
Sometimes there are no good choices, but one has some upside and the other is all negative. It is what it is.
I’d rather take the negative then and then move on with my life. It’s absolutely ridiculous that I"M the bad guy for simply not wanting to buy a game I can’t play. But whatever, I’ll be the bad guy.
After this exchange, I’m 100% convinced that you’re a female. Nobody brought up your specific shopping habits, but you’re trying to twist this entire conversation into some personal shit.
Who cares what you would rather do? This isn’t about that.
I’m coming back to this post because I feel you’re missing why MvCI flopped.
People were already mad about SFV and rightfully so. People wanted MvCI to be the savior and it fucking failed outside of the one area that mattered to the hardcore crowd, the fighting. I know using Max as a voice is dumb because he’s a fucking shill but he was honest when he said that MvCI looks like fucking garbage but is fun as fuck.
At the end of the day people got burnt one to many times so the general audience said fuck it.
Oh and then this little indie game came out called DBFZ. I know you probably haven’t heard of it since it had a small dev team but I heard it was a nail in the coffin for MvCI.
I’ve learned that for me, I won’t support a game (buying the game/DLC) in hopes that they fix something specific about it or expect that it’ll make the game better (I did this with SFV and learned a valuable lesson), but I will pay to support the game, even if I know it’ll always be shit, if I like the game/company and want them to have a few extra bucks and make them think twice about killing the franchise, knowing the option may already be on the table.
May be the same thing really, but the latter mindset makes it a bit easier to cope with if th netcode doesn’t get fixed or whatever.
That was something you posted. Yeah it wasn’t directed at me, and I’ll fully admit to being a narcissistic asshole at this juncture but I’m going to call it out. No, no one ever HAS to hold an L to keep things going. You, like anyone else, can choose what to spend your money on and what to play. Honestly your side AND Sajam’s side are not my side. I will never play a FG at this point without good netcode. On the same note I also think it’s incredibly stupid to play a FG with good netcode…if you don’t enjoy it, aka the Skullgirls issue.
Again, companies will do what they want when it comes to their own bottom line. As of now, that usually means releasing half-assed ports for their Option Select. If it does well in spite of the shitty quality they’ll pump out a new game, usually in a way no one really wants it. If it doesn’t, they didn’t put much time or energy into it and they don’t have to make something they clearly don’t believe has any financial power.
As for netcode, again (and I want to make this clear based on this response that you gave)
Like holy shit, this is some ridiculous preening. Like some “I’ll buy this now, so when it gets better I get to feel better about myself for playing it when it wasn’t at it’s best”. SNK at no point has given any indication they believe their netcode is bad. Shit, both Capcom and NRS at least acknowledged it in the past when they got blown up for bad offerings in MK9 and MvC3. You know, games that were made in the same time frame as King of Fighters XIII. Their next offerings? MKX failed early but then they flipped the script and rebuilt the netcode entirely midway through its lifespan. SFxT, Capcom trying their own rollback for the first time. Say what we will about how well they’ve executed with SFxT and SFV, there is at least acknowledgement and attempts to do better. SNK in the proceeding timeframe? KOFXIV, the waifu KOF game, and SamSho. No attempts to do any better and KOFXIV was actually WORSE than KOFXIII in that respect.
How the fuck does “supporting SNK for the sake of SamSho’s future” make any sense at that point unless you’re someone with the ability to go to Locals? In a time where nearly every other FG Developer has at least attempted to do new shit, SNK has not. The people supporting SamSho right now are the people who should be. The ones willing to make the time to play the game locally, and actually get the most out of it. It’s not about the money, as much as you think that I’m complaining about my “spending habits”. I’m certainly willing to dole out something if I think there’s viability in its future and I can have fun with it now. All SamSho has done is show that SNK still has it when it comes to making a solid base Fighting Game and fantastic artistic style and visuals, something we already knew for a while even if KOFXIV shook people’s faith a slight bit.
This ridiculous shit about buying games you may or may not like for the sake of the FGC, that started with Skullgirls, has to stop. Don’t pretend we some starving artists out here who need to scratch and claw to get scraps at the table. It’s 2019, players can absolutely make a choice based on getting a COMPLETE package in a FG (or what they perceive to be as such) rather than buying it based on a feature you hope future games will emulate.
Ya Perths mindset for these things is literally the opposite of how companies are going to improve, you don’t support stuff that’s refusing to progress.
I love playing that game. I know we said we would play some 3s together but man, you would make my day if we played some mvci. It seriously might be a tie between mvci and mvc2 as my fav marvel game.
Edit: Wow. Really should have read what was going down. All I’m going to say is that I know a ton of people personally who still play this game actively online and they all meet up at big tournaments to keep mvci going. I’m not saying like 10 dudes in a lobby… like enough people to support a grassroots circuit type event. (Which they do have.)
I’m down for MVCI games anytime. You too @KingTubb.
I am ass though. Literal ass. But I had a lot of fun tonight just doing random shit. No idea on possible teams but I’ll play it more, especially if there’s games here to be had.
