If the consumer base at large didn’t care about this issues then NRS wouldn’t be the best selling…
The amount of casuals really trying to play online is probably hella small from the sales. Let’s keep it when it comes to that. FG money isn’t in actual good gameplay stuff, its in the Maximillian shill casual hype. Good netcode is not casual hype.
Japanese companies don’t care. If they didn’t make it, they want nothing to do with it. They’d much rather develop their own in house code if they even bother to go through that step.
American Companies are more willing (though not completely willing, but at least more willing) to prostrate themselves to someone else who knows how to do their shit better. Unless you’re Bioware.
I don’t know. Comparing FGs to shooters and mobas is hilariously silly.
There’s a massive difference with getting your shit pushed in 1v1 and multiple player nonsense. The joy I get out of FGs isn’t the same type of joy I got out of playing Fat Princess.
Why can’t we effectively talk to companies about this shit?
Shit, I can’t get Ponder to respond to a tweet to answer how SRK users can go about giving feedback to make this place better. Wtf do I really think Capcom an ArcSys is gonna do? Harada told you not to ask him for shit, well there you go, laugh it up now.
The moment SRK banned people for leaking MvC3 and then couldn’t choose whether it was standing for the community or as a pseudo arm of Capcom’s, we went tits up on being able to communicate community concerns to them. After that its just random assholes scattered through the internet all bitching in small enclaves.
He is honestly right about wanting features that ‘competing’ games have
we also live in the year of 2019 and really only ever since 2013 with Killer Instinct’s good netcode, only one company (NRS) even bothered to improve their netcode which was previously trash. At this point wanting a good netcode shouldn’t be the second coming of jesus it should be something expected
he is wrong about only having to play fighting games with better netcode (I for sure am not gonna switch to MK11 just because the netcode is better), but that is no excuse to have crappy netcode in this day and age when it’s done right a couple times.
We laughed it off but when he said he had shit better than GGPO, we didn’t really hold him to task either.
In accidental ways, this is the problem with SRK Front page not having established itself seriously. We needed good editorial type stuff addressing this issues for FGC’s sake, but people got too caught up in their hubris to see the bigger picture.
Well, maybe that’s not entirely fair. But really, how is this section of the costumer base supposed to make some demands on what they want out of a product?
What’s evne worse about it is that we HAVE to eat a dick to a bad port. You know why? Because if doesn’t sell, companies have this way of interpreting it as “people just weren’t interested in this IP altogether.”
FGC caught in a never ending series of unblockables.
Yep. Capcom used HDRemix and the Hyper Fighting port in 360 as reasons to greenlight SF4. Problem with DS is that you have a less known franchise than SF. It’d be like if Sega rereleased Fighting Vipers to see if we wanted a new one. A lot of people know its a game but its basically one you have to restart altogether.
The other thing that Sajam is missing because fuck it, is that buying to support games does pay off. French Bread doesn’t have a lot of money, they spend a bunch doing a US port for UNIST. According to Sajam’s bumbacloth logic, because the netcode is ass, I shouldn’t buy that game. What he doesn’t understand though is that buying those ports is a much needed revenue stream so we can get some of these games PERIOD.
Sometimes you just have to hold that L for the sake of keeping things going. Look at SamSho? Is it sad I can’t play it online? Yep. Can I still call my friend over and spend a saturday playing 100 games? Sure as fuck I can.
That sell from playing 100 games will eventually get us other things. Problem is that we aren’t really able to fight for FGC concerns. Why you ask? Because we’ve allowed FGC concerns to be shit like outfits. A whole community founded on players playing and we gotta talk about Chun outfits.
So basically they’ve turbo fucked a lot of the ability to use our numbers as a community to set some sort of agenda in the game dev process. And why is it that the community that cared about a few important things central to Gameplay can’t really lobby for shit anymore?
Because its not a community that cares about that anymore. Its a community that now cares about shit ass storylines, fuck all useless casual modes and cosplayers. Good job everybody. We deserve bad netcodes.
Honestly, until the japanese crowd starts bashing devs for shoddy netcode, we’re fucked.
Delay netcode is only a thing because it works in Japan.
Even ArcSys, which is a company I’d legit shill for, falls into that same dumb pitfall. You can’t say in good faith that Granblue was too strapped for resources to grab GGPO.
Adding casual fluff like story modes is legit great and it really helps the longevity of a game in the long run, but FG netcodes need to be on par with GGPO at the very least.
