This is the first time I’ve done any photoshoping and it’s really just putting layers down. I just wanted to know what people thought, both in the concept of the picture and how I could have done a better job putting it together.
LoL. At first I thought “Why the hell is Alex floating?” but then I got the notion that he was ‘standing’ on Hugo and Q’s shoulders, making a hoop for Sean to shoot in. If I was you, I’d choose a different background or move them around, because when I first saw Sean I thought he was playing with the hoop in the ‘background.’
Also, you can make easy shadows by drawing circles underneath them, painting them black and setting the opacity of the layer to 40-50%.
How about putting some shadows of characters(not drop shadow effect but actual shadow of the characters), and light effect to help character fit into the background a little better? Jusy my worthless 2 cents…
Yeah I was going to mention that, but didn’t know if 1hitparry would know how to go about doing ‘said’ technique. :wonder:
Rai-cho!
Why am I saying that? :shrugs: Oh well…
Rai-cho!
Useful Tidbit: Shadows would really help your picture out, specifically on Hugo and Q’s shoulders [ala Alex’s shadow draping down on them somehow]. If you do it right, it’ll look bomb. Or at least in my vision it looks bomb. EXPLOSIVE!
Yep my immediate thought was it needed shadows. Circles would be easy, but if you are feeling like doing something a bit more special then duplicate the characters, create a colour overlay of black, flip it vertically to create realistic shadows. Then all you would need to adjust the angle and transparency. :wgrin:
Secondly you need to fix the perpective! Look at the way Hugo and Q are standing, Q is obviously meant to be the furthest away since he is on Alex’s left side, whilst Hugo on the right. But the way you have it, its the opposite and you get Escher effect. So you need to move Hugo lower than Q.
I’ll probably work on the shadows and Hugo/Q perspective thing first. I don’t know why I didn’t notice that at first. And thanks for the explaining how to make good shadows, that should help a lot. As for the background, I’m kind of at a loss. I’ve only looked at Street Fighter 3 backgrounds and only the bonus stage background seems to fit for me. If only the basket ball hoop weren’t there.
^I’m not really familiar with using ‘masks.’ :wasted:
But I know someone in here can explain them. Other than that, the ‘shadow’ of Alex draping down on Q and Hugo isn’t really necessary. Though it would be great, how they say, ‘attention to detail.’ :critique:
So I got around to adding in the shadows. Looks somewhat more realistic now. Let me know if there’s anything I can improve, other than the background. The basketball hoop still bugs me, but I haven’t found another good background. I also think I’m going to move Sean’s shadow down a bit the next chance I get.
Edit: I just realized the foot of Hugo’s shadow is sticking out, too.
The best way to fix Hugo’s shadow is to select the layer you have his shadow on then press CTRL+T [transform]. A box will show up around the image, along with four CORNER boxes. These allow you transform the image to make it bigger or smaller in horizontal or diagonal ways. HOWEVER, this is not what you want to do!
With the FOUR boxes around your image, hold CTRL+Right click on the mouse on ONE of the four boxes. By dragging while holding CTRL, you can alter only a certain part of an image. Drag around till the shadow looks appropriate.
Tip: The CORNER box you want to mess around with should be the lower right hand box [REMEMBER, THIS IS DURING CTRL+T!]
If this is unclear, which I’m sure it is, then try these steps. You’ll get it when you have hands-on time with it. :hope:
When I get home and you still have questions, I’ll go into detail of what I mean. I’ll use pics/etc. Later dude.
