Looking for Love: Ibuki General Discussion Thread

Idk but I usually punish pokes with the neckbreaker…either that or a lot of people just dont block low after they throw out a normal.

Firstly thanks for the info that is much appreciated… I will take it on-board. Secondly I take offence at you suggesting Ibuki is a more technical character than Chun or you suggesting that that a Chun can be decent with only the tools you’ve suggested (not knocking your friend)… Have you actually seen my Chun? I’m not a basic turtle Chun that mashes EX Legs lol (ignoring my 2 most recent uploads as I specifically selected games in which I get exposed in to get some advice) I think you might find that the “technical” side of my game is ok lol…

In terms of spacing, footsies and execution ability that is, suggesting Chun is a less technical character than Ibuki is kinda odd given how specific her entire footsies and AA game is when you play at a decent level and her execution requirements are pretty high if you want to play her properly… Anyway I’ll let it go as it is the Ibuki forum anyway…

Oh yeah here’s my Chun btw (sorry but I really didn’t like your assessment of Chun lol) I will upload my Ibuki tomorrow for ya

If we take two random players, and have one play Chun and the other play as Ibuki, neither player having much experience with either character, who do you think will do better?

No and I’m not sure why me seeing your Chun has anything to do with Ibuki critique.

Who said anything about turtle Chun or mash EX legs? Is that your definition of a “basic” Chun?

Chun’s footsies are specific or do you mean Ibuki’s?

I think maybe you and I have different definitions of “technical.”

So did you want us to critique these? I’m not sure what these videos are for.

I’m pretty sure my Chun will rape your Chun, and I don’t even play her. That’s how easy and basic she is. To try and even compare her technicality or whatever to Ibuki is a joke.

I don’t get why people get so offended when their character gets called out. I’m not saying Ibuki is difficult to play, no one in this game is. But to compare Chun to her? Jesus, lol.

Apparently, someone has seen Ibuki been confirmed for street fighter x tekken, along with kuma.

*edit, this has been confirmed to be real.

V and yes, thank you for correcting me, that was a big difference between kuma and akuma (my bad).

Not Akuma, Kuma the bear from Tekken. And yes Ibuki is confirmed here is her and Kumas Trailers :http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2011/jul/30/new-street-fighter-x-tekken-character-teaser-videos/

God I hope it’s not her.

Holy shit, balance patch incoming for SSF4? Fuck yeah!

I hope they leave Ibuki as is…

Some changes I hope to see in the balance patch:

  1. Fix Ibuki’s ultra 2 not fully comboing all the time.
  2. Fix Ibuki’s tsumujis not fully comboing all the time.
  3. Fix TC4/TC6 (cl.st.LP xx st.MP part) to not whiff on hit vs crouchers. I don’t care if it whiffs on block, but being a target combo that is supposed to force stand on opponents, it’s kind of dumb.
  4. Make hien knockdown on hit. As of right now, hien is useless, even on hit, unless you cancel into super to keep it safe.
  5. Maybe give her regular kazegiri some invincibility so she isn’t so free without meter, but I’m already used to getting pressured to death anyways.
  6. Maybe make tsujigoe useful, somehow. I think it was intended as a way to get out of the corner, but SJC does a way better job at that.

coming from a chun main to an ibuki main (yall should know that i mained chun since vanilla arcades) chun is harder to win with than ibuki. shes harder to use than ibuki as well. harder technically? nope.

but technically hard is training mode stuff. chuns AA’s are more spacing specific whereas ibukis are straight up retardville good. chun also has alot of stuff that technically speaking that is just as hard to do as damn near anyhting that ibuki has… does chun need most of it to win?? nope… but ibuki doesnt need any of her really hard stuff to win either (cough clakey D cough) and i play just like clakey only not nearly as good. and i can tell you that shes a hellofa lot easier to win with than chun will ever be.

anywho wii, long time no talk to… dimes impromptu ibuki beginners guide:

pokes:

cr.mk (highest priority poke, use it to beat stuff…one of only 2 moves that ibuki has that has priority when actually trying to touch your opponent.
cr.mp… done to wiff, if spaced to wiff, you buffe neckbreakerin its animation… if your opponent moves into it or gets there move clipped, you score a 2 hit knockdown. very good priority versus certain moves but more than that it makes opponents weary about being liberal with there forward movement. just dont get to happy with it. i throw them out about 1-5 times a round.
slide. i agree with buks assessment… BUT, i think he comes off as undervaluing it a bit… the THREAT of this move is what really makes ibukis ground game decent. against many opponents the threat of this move will have them in crouch block from half a screen away… which means that ibuki is feree to move while her opponent isnt… it threatens to control alot of space. generally follow it up on block or hit with a backdash or a st.lp st.mk xx mk spinkicks. i usually backdash. the purpose to doing the move in neutral game is to do some damage and make the opponent weary about standing up… it is also ibukis highest priority poke and has the most range… practice spacing it well… generally i space it so far that i am too far away to combo her st.lp afterwards… butthats ok in my eyes cause i use the move for different reasons than going for knockdown.

ibukis general neutral game mixup for getting in:

  1. kara focus forward dash (makes ibukis forward dash recover 1 frame faster, like how i talked about chuns kara focus dash… only ibuki doesnt get her range enhanced at all) when using focus forward dash as fast as possible, it seems kinda like makotos 3s dash… i remember the first time i did it to gootecks at v94 he actually went “whoa” when i grabbed him… it takes people by surprise and isa REALLY good threat.
the main moves i do after doing one of these neutral game dashes is throw or cr.lp>throw or cr.lp>frame trap with st.mk xx tsukuji… i dont really get complicated with it.

2.jumpin

3.slide

those are your 3 “get in” options once you have yours and ibukis rythm down you’ll see just how powerful they are… simply put the opponent is almost always going to be open to one of these options.

  1. jumpin kunai: i added this one in cause i realized that it let me jumpin from a range further away than normal, so its good for a new angle… but i only use it sparingly. and always the fierce version.

  2. crossup lk (and super jump crossup lk once every 20 matches or so…) ibukis jump travels very far forward so she can actually get crossups against most characters in neutral footsies games… in fact 90% of my jumpins are crossup jumpins.

and thats it for this impromptu guide… like i said just the basics, but if you learn that neutral game mixup and how to control your opponent with cr.mk and cr.mp… you’ll find her to be a really good character that can actually back up others with better pokes.

Hey man, yeah very long time  Hope you’re well…

Anyway I really wasn’t trying to create controversy (I’m REALLY not that guy) I just felt like it was a bit of an odd set of things to say and you can argue all you like about SJC Ultra Vs cr.fierce xx Legs (into ultra lol). I just left the tone overall was a bit of a lets look down on Chun, regardless of what level she can be played too… And your points were mine as well, everyone thinks shes some kind of autopilot press any button to win character but hey-ho

I kinda agree with you on Ibuki been easier to win with in some regards, but anyway that is somewhat off point and yeah not really relevant. So thanks for the info (I always said I’d learn her lol and well now I am) I’ll copy it into my Chun notes word doc under Learning Ibuki… It seems you’re just as helpful over here as you were on the Chun forums. You need to drop by more often man cos at the moment its up to people like me to offer advice o_O

Anyway thanks for being kind enough to drop some info on me so I don’t have to trawl the whole Ibuki forum to find the stuff and I will be uploading some matches soon (like tonight if my crappy nets can handle Evo and uploading lol). Would be nice to get your opinion on my Ibuki as I get the feeling I’m not Mr popular over here…

Cheers and sorry to the Ibuki masses for my trouble, its safe to say we are on different sides of the same coin, I always gotta defend Chun

I just stuck the Chun vids there btw as I felt like I was being talked down to as someone who doesn’t know how to play the game, just wanted to show I’m not a scrub really… Sorry about that everyone

And 2 bad players (or player with little experience with either character) I’d say the Ibuki would do better tbh. But that analogy seems a pretty silly and petty one… Replies like that are why I felt like you were looking down on me as you’re somehow better than me for maining Ibuki lol

And no I don’t need your opinion on my Chun thanks, I know where I am with her and what I can do when I’m playing properly and just trying to get fun footage … Hope you won’t hate me forever lol, cos no doubt I’ll need your help to level up my Ibuki

[]Kunai has no more height restriction
[

[/LIST]
*** **essentially able to cancel into Ultra or Specials, but requiring good execution. In 2nd Impact it was too easy to do cr.LK xx cr.MP xx Hashinsho.

Balanced.

  1. Useless. It can be 1frame startup and it won’t make a difference, since it has 0 invincibility anyways.
  2. Not sure what you mean.
  3. This would make f+LK completely useless as a poke.
  4. Doesn’t make a huge difference.
  5. Ibuki already has one of the slowest backdashes in the game, next to Dhalsim/Makoto/Sagat.
  6. That would make it a braindead frame trap lol.
7-16. with the exception of 8 and 15, these are all pretty much nerfs that Ibuki doesn’t really need. She’s not S tier like Yun is.

Yeah I hope she randomly trips like they do in brawl when you try and command dash with her, that’ll be cool.

How about if you try and throw out a Kuani too low to the ground she doesn’t recover fast enough and slams face first into the ground and gets auto-dizzied?

Buff LK Tsumuji and Neckbreaker cause 300dmg+ isn’t enough without meter. Great list.

Man… I haven’t been in here for awhile. I stopped using Ibuki and converted to Sakura :\ I was wondering what everyone thought about Ibuki’s changes in AE, though.

I really want better defensive options in the patch. Once someone is on you like Yun you’re just waiting on a good time to mash out an EX Kazegiri. Ibuki’s low stun/stamina doesn’t help.

Mingo suggested I should post this here so I will.

Well I met my goal of getting out of pools at Evo. Didn’t get far in quarterfinals though. I got put into losers right away by Tatsu but still made it out. I beat some guy from DMG in losers finals, but I don’t know who he was lol He got really salty since I beat him 4 straight rounds. I lost to lilsicx though he made sure to do a new setup everytime he knocked me down I couldn’t figure them out fast enough :frowning:

That DMG guy might have been Gridman then, if you say he plays CViper and Seth.

Also did Orikasa make it out of pools? I think I heard his name randomly on the stream when they were calling out winners and losers of pools.

Maybe I’m not too familiar with DMG.
I don’t know who Orikasa is though sorry.

Did he look like this guy? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_k7kG2h-J0
