"LOOK INTO MY EYES!" The Ghost Rider Discussion Thread

His c.H actually does hit behind him a little. I’ve accidentally done it a couple times to Vergil players and caught Vergil and his assist. Wait i just tried it out in training mode and it didn’t work. I couldnof sworn I did though.

so, im thinking about maining ghost rider competitively because my execution sucks whenever I go to a local tournament and switch to playing to xbox… my alternative would be getting a 360 to practice on religiously - am I digging my own grave?

Woooahh. You are in a similar position as me. But anyway, no not at all. What team are you thinking about using?

ghostrider/akuma/skrull, skrull is my best character besides zero so I always have him for a comeback, but I pretty much go for unblockable setups with akumas overhead assist after conviction slam, how about you?

Hmm that’s an interesting team. What assist are you using with Skrull? I love using Mystic Ray with shuma (IMO it’s his best assist) and Taskmaster is my favorite character so I just use him. What I think Rider needs is an assist that helps him convert off of J. s to a combo. With the right assists Ghost Rider can be a real pain for the opponent and be pretty effective.

I use orbital grudge mostly for combo extension (see the gh combo thread), what does mystic ray do for ghost rider? imo you dont need an assist to combo off of because you can chain into H if you time it right, if you wait longer then usally after you jump… but I guess this gives them time to react… however I think it would be interesting to use a assist that hits low for J.s (because of the long hitbox)
like “Deadpool - A (Quickwork) - Hits low, spinning knockdown
Felicia - A (Rolling Buckler) - Hits low
Phoenix Wright - Y (Get 'em, Missile!) - Hits low, I think it OTGs
She Hulk - A (Torpedo) - Hits low, OTG
Wesker - B (Samurai Edge) - Hits low, OTG
X23 - B (Ankle Slice) - Hits low, OTG”

Yea low assists are useful also but, I don’t think they are that practical for the neutral game and some suck at combo extending. except maybe get em missle because that assist is really good. shuma gives Rider combo extending, something against super jumpers, confirms off of J.S and since he comes from behind you, it can stuff most teleports pretty clean. Of course the downfall is that it’s really slow.

Ive heard that GR needs a beam assist, is that true? My team is Nemesis, Ghost, Strange

I dont think so, it would be important to have a lockdown assist imo but beams can do that… off the top of my head the only characters that NEED a beam would be teleport characters

do bolts of ballthak work for GR? or should i replace strange for akuma or something

I mean how good is your Strange? I think you should play who you want as long as you get good with him.I’ve never used bolts but they don’t sound bad at all to use with Rider.

Bolts are good. Most people will duck to avoid them which lets you get a jump S in. They also lockdown long enough to give you access to the Jump S/Crouch H mixup once you’ve trained someone to block low or high. Strange’s THC is also useful for ending combos, and gives GR a way to punish bad assist calls at a distance. Strange is also less free to zoning than GR is, so he can help with some of GR’s terrible match ups.

i’m trying to improve my ghost rider game but can’t seem to find any match videos of great ghost riders…i’m pretty new to him, so do you guys know what videos/who I should watch

There isn’t much out there but I would recommend trying to find Filipino Champ playing him because I heard he has a good one. I wish I had some way of recording my matches, I’m pretty decent I think.

there isnt very many “great” ghost riders I think because hes a very linear character so you dont see people doing outlandish things with him that will catch peoples eyes… that and hes “low teir” so many competitive players will stick away from him - but there is one guy I know that uses him, filipino champ who won ever, has been known to play him -->>>> <iframe width=“420” height=“315” src=“http://www.youtube.com/embed/Kkhi0w0mJeM” frameborder=“0” allowfullscreen></iframe>

Fchamp really only plays him to troll people from what I’ve seen. There aren’t any competitive Ghost Rider players that I know of.

Yea it’s ridiculous! Why isn’t there at least ONE representative for Ghost Rider other than Champ, who just uses him to troll and sometimes counter pick? This needs change I mean come on, where’s the Ghost Rider love?

Does any of you use Hidden Missiles? i tried to use them but it didnt work for me… for some wierd reason.

Honestly? He’s just too bad of a character. I mean I play him, but I wouldn’t say he’s slept on or underrated. He’s just bad, he doesn’t have good options for dealing with the majority of the top tier cast and he doesn’t even win any niche math ups. In a competitive setting you’re handicapping yourself by using him. In addition to that, he’s also not a very creative or interesting character he’s limited to doing only a couple of things and no one has been able to develop new technology for him. It’s seems as of now he’s a poorly designed only half finished character.

My main team has been Ghost Rider/Dormammu/Doom since ultimate came out. I switch between missiles and plasma beam depending on where I think the opposing team wants to be. If they like to control vertical space I pick missiles, if they want to control horizontal I pick beam. The problem with missiles is that GR’s mixups are to shitty and slow for you to be able to do anything with the lockdown they provided. All he really gets out of them is the combo breaker, and some help with keeping people from just running away and laming you out.

how about some of you guys here…from experience the people in the forums play characters better than even the pros. You guys have match videos right?
