I am planning to have him as middleman, because earlier in the thread, I had brought this same question up. With the information we have now, it is still unfavorable to have Ghost as anchor. Like Dhalsim, he has a plethora of tools made for zoning, but once an opening is found by the opponent, it can then be extremely difficult for him to get out.
He has:
-Slow walk speed
-Poor dash range
-Unsafe normals up close
-No teleport unlike other zoners or hybrid characters
Right now, it seems his +:h: is best when trying to escape the corner, because its active frames make it essentially a brick wall to the opponent.
He cannot combo off an airthrow from midscreen but for that reason, it puts GR in a safe distance to rev (get it?) up his range game again.
You should very cautious when playing Ghost as anchor. Assists that would normally be used to save you from getting punished (doom missiles for one) won’t, obviously. You would need to rely on your chain mixups alone at that point to not get opened up. Ghost is slow and doesn’t have a crossup (as far as we know) so it would be best in most cases to forsake a reset opportunity and deal guaranteed damage instead.
We all agree he’s going to rely on assists to do more damaging combos as well as zone more effectively. I personally see him on point since he doesn’t really use a ton of meter.
Yeah, especially if he has 1 Mil health as I’ve heard from rumors. But that does bring up another question; what do you think will be the best assists for Blaze? Low-Hitting, Projectile, Lockdown?
I think assist that would cover his chain hitconfirms on cr.:h:, st.:h:,:h: and j.:s:, maybe beam assists like Ironman?
I mean, GR seems like he could lock down pretty okay by himself is Hearless Spire is as good as everyone’s saying on top of his chain specials. If anything, more overhead assists would be nice, use that with Johnny’s cr.:h: could be a dirty halfscreen unblockable.
like i said earlier in the thread, Dante’s Jam session and Vergil’s Rapid Slash will be my assists (at least at first). Both will work to extend his combos, both cover good distance (1 vertical and 1 horizontal) and both pushback around halfscreen on block.
add to the fact that both characters are promising in Ultimate, you’ll just have a good solid team all-around.
also, i dont see GR being good as an anchor at all, he’ll most likely be as good as Haggar anchor -_-
Agreed. I don’t see Blaze being effective as an Anchor simply because it’s too easy to block/avoid his attacks until X-Factor wears off. I think he’s best on point where he can set the tone of a match. Plus, trapping a fighter and his/her assist with the chains is guaranteed Happy Birthday.
only way i can see him working as anchor is if does fuckload of chip on Block, IIRC his normals do chip so maybe the chip will be godlike enough to make the opponent go FUUUUU even if theyre just blocking.
Even then honestly just doesnt seem good. you can most likely just block low all day and nothing major would happen, unless I’m missing something and he has some GDLK overhead that you can combo from (j.S cant be combo’d out of right? at least thats what i read a few pages back)
According to a commentator in the Norcal stream and Justin Wong in an interview with EG, Ghost’s normals don’t actually chip. His specials do though; the first one that comes to mind is his :dp:+:l: since you’d be crazy not to finish a safe blockstring with it.
j. :s: can be combo’d into, it’s just that you have to be close enough to the opponent so that the last hit of the chain gets your feet on the ground quicker. Otherwise the opponent will recover from hitstun and block your :h:,:h:. The catch is that you risk getting too close by leaving your safe spot.
Yea if his assists turn out to be as great as everyone is making em out to be then the second spot will probably be the optimal position since he looks like a character that will need assistance while on point. Can’t wait for “assist me” on wednesday to get if only a little more information on GR.
I see him great in most spots on a team, but second may be that sweet spot for Zarathos.
and yea GR will benefit from combo extensions and assist like most of the cast, however don’t get me wrong, Im not saying GR main spot on a team is anchor, Im just saying he’s not bad as an anchor from what I heard from Wong, Seth and what we know so far about Ghost, too many of Zarathos moves are unexplored to claim he will end up like Hagger or Tron if positioned as an anchor.
k idk if this was discussed here before, but I’m planning on making the Ghost Rider combo thread when the character forums are done. I made the x-23 combo thread and i keep it updated regularly.
I’m bringing this up coz if there’s one thing i HATE about forums is when someone makes an important thread and then becomes inactive or just doesnt give a shit about updating it and it becomes a massive clusterfuck that you cant find anything in.
so yeah I’m planning on making the thread as soon as they make the UMVC3 character forums, if you guys think someone else would be better for making the thread (and keeping it updated) then i dont mind, i just dont want it to be a dumb race for whoever is online at that time so they can make it first and then it just stays there with no info whatsoever.
also, I’m already working on making it a fully blown out thread for everything Zarathos related instead of just a combo thread (best example is Karsticle’s Dormammu Guide)
Your X-23 thread looks very nice. It could use some descriptions for her bnb’s though (similiar to the Brady guide), so that it is clear to me what I need to do to make the combo work properly. I don’t know if I like the idea of condensing everything to one thread yet, either. Other than that, I don’t see why not.
It also might not be a bad idea to work on your grammar a little.:woot:
@Eternal Blaze: You sure you can support both this, the vergil thread, and whatever other thread you may have posted that post in? I mean if you feel you can then once again you have my full support.
