Look here before asking about what type of stick you should use!

anything that can easily be swapped with japanese parts. i think people who play shmups use go with seimetsu stick and buttons. (stick is a smaller engage than sanwas? not exactly sure)

Yeah, I heard most shmuppers prefer the Seimetsu sticks. Looking around, I found this cheap thing and this thread, which kinda makes me happy.

When it comes to modding these things, is it mostly plug and play or is there soldering involved? Furthermore, is there anything for under $100 I should consider? I’m searching the forum as I type, but if anyone has a recommendation, I’d appreciate it.

Get an HRAP 2 and buy an LS-32 and either Seimitsu or Sanwa buttons. I prefer Sanwa since they’re a lot more sensitive than Seimitsu. Check this thread out to see how to mod the HRAP 2. That Mayflash/Elecom stick is doable in terms of modding, but if you’ve never had experience modding before it will be a huge headache for you.

Well, they were out of stock, so I got a refund. I found a sweet fighter stick for SNES on ebay and I have a SNES/USB converter, so I have that covered. I’d still like to build a custom stick, though.

Do I need to buy a Seimitus mounting plate (http://www.lizardlickamusements.com/pages/joysticks.shtml) if I’m using a LS-32? Or can I install it directly to the face of the stick I’m building?

All of the people here use the mounting plate that comes with the ls32. If you check the stickies it’ll tell you how to route the area so that you can mount it.

Sorry if this has been answered somewhere, but does anyone know how I can get a HRAP3 to work on a PS2?

Replace the PCB with a PSX DS1 or something similar

I actually didn’t get any of that, but I guess I will after I read the modding threads, thanks!

He is explaining to replace the default circuit board with that from an available Playstation One pad or stick.

Most modding requires some degree of soddering as well as a basic understanding of electrical components and circuits.

Build Your Own Arcade Controls.

Okay, I bought a t5 stick, but I’m pretty sure I need to get it modded to make good use of it for marvel. I was wondering if a p360 stick would be best for it, since the stock one is hard to maneuver around with a square feeling on the inside. What buttons would be best to replace the stock buttons? thanks

Hey imtony, its kinda hard to mount an american stick inside a t5 joystick. Youd need to widen the holes to make room for joystick and stuff. As for buttons you should use either sanwa or seimitsu buttons to replace the stock ones, but you need a dremel or a metal file to file or grind away the tabs in the button holes.

Where might one look to order the Asian parts?

Also, what’s the time/money investment like? I’m looking to make my first stick and I want to know what I’m getting into.

You finally had the day off school and this was your first order of business?

Any thoughts on the new madcatz sticks coming out or does the op still stand?

I can personally attest to the X-Arcade stick’s crappiness. I thought it would be a good buy since I play fighting games on multiple consoles, but it was a lagging piece of shit, just like the OP said.

I was using it for Tekken 5 DR mostly. It was stiff, unresponsive, and you had to really push in a downward direction to properly pull of any crouching move, otherwise it wouldn’t register and you’d still be standing. Moves like the EWGF were practically impossible to pull off with any consistency. Moving and running were also unnecessarily hard to do.

I had to sell it on eBay at a loss just to get rid of it. I really wish I was smatter and consulted one of these threads here on Shoryuken before I made my choice. Don’t follow in my footsteps and avoid this pitiful excuse of a stick at all costs.

Are sanwa parts expensive? where do I get 'em?

What layout is the slanted style. You know, the same as the TE stick. I’m ordering a custom stick and I need to know. Appreciate it guys.

viewlix? I think its spelled.
