I don’t know about that. Depending on when it comes out he may need a newer console.
oh yeah well my stick is this big _______________________. /thread
SSF4 is garbage and I would not recommend buying it because like the other guy said it gives you an anger that just isn’t fun even when you are winning.
YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG
lol, seriously, its a game, opinions aside, the game is being played at a pro level…
opinions on again
The first one was great, they had extra stuff left over, made a second, and now are gonna add more characters ?
It will be around for at least 5 to 8 years more.
Street Fighter 3 was released in 1997, updated thru to 99, and its 2010… a truly great game that never got as much press as SF4 ?
(granted it was a better game, 3rd strike anyways)
Sorry I’m gonna troll a little bit here, but I hate the way you answer in this thread. It makes you sound really bad man. And your points that you are trying to make are kinda ass-o-nine.<lol I dont know how to spell that word.
wat a shit thread
Like many, I too bought SF4 due to SF2 nostalgia, I didnt play SF3. I havent got bored of SF4/SSF4 and I play it as often as I can. In fact, I bought my xbox 360 purely for SF4 and since I’ve bought it, I’ve only ever played 2 games on it: SF4, SSF4!
The depth and complexity of the game keep me interested. Because the knowledge about the game is always growing and new techniques such as OS’s are being devised all the time, it makes we want to learn more about the game. Tetris is a game that is really simple to play, but I remember getting bored with it very quickly, due to that same simplicity.
A good game with replay value is one that is easy enough to play but at the same time has the depth and complexity to keep you coming back for more. SF4 has this. Sure some of the moves/combos are hard to execute, but I’d rather do an SRK using the dp motion and pressing a button rather then simply presson A button.
If I lose and get angry, I always get angry with myself or online lag (if lag had a big part to play in my crap performance, which isnt usually the case).
If your getting frustrated when you lose then its probably to do with one of the following:
a) You being unable to execute a move/combo, i.e. whiffing and then getting punished. You might have great execution in training mode but when your playing competitively online/tourny then pressure can cause you do whiff your combos/miss your links.
b) Lack of knowledge about the matchup, thats what shoryuken.com is for!
c) Lack of knowledge about the frame data/hit boxes, which is to put it simply, the rock/paper/scissors data of the game. If you know what move (from what range) beats what move then you’ve got a better chance of winning.
d) Or you’ve been out-thought/out-footsied by your opponent.
As you can see from the above, all of the reasons for losing can be overcome by practice and patience, but I suspect you dont want to practice but still want to beat people who have put more time and energy into the game then you have!
Just because you were good against your mates in the local arcade in SF2, it doesnt mean your going to beat Joe Bloggs who’s sat in a different country!
We all get frustrated when we lose, you can either chose to give up or become better. The top players in the world right now have chosen the latter option, none of these players were born with these skills, they had to be learnt, victories had to be earned.
If you lose online then you should get angry with yourself (or online lag) and give credit to your opponent for being better then you. If you think they got lucky(which can happen sometimes) then invite them to a private endless match and see who comes on top in a first to 5!
After a few days of playing the game, the flashy screens/menu’s/backgrounds become old. All your left with is gameplay. If SF4 had crap gameplay then SSF4 would never have been released. SSF4 has great gameplay also, but the gameplay is only as good as the opponent your playing. If your playing crap players all the time and winning easily then you could become bored, if on the other hand your playing top players and getting beat then dont blame the game, blame your lack of skills.
If your losing to repetitive tactics, e.g. tick throws/wakeup dp spamming/zangief crossup mixup/blanka ball spamming then you have to learn to counter these moves/tactics. These tactics might be considered cheap/scrubby, but its up to you to learn to counteract these moves.
One of my weakness in SF4/SSF4 is handling tick throws. Back in SF2 this move was considered really cheap and nobody would dare execute this in the arcades as it would probably lead to a real street fight, but due to online gaming, players can spam cheap/effective moves as often as they like with no fear. If your getting beat by this, learn to crouch tech! If somebody is spamming dp’s on their wakeup then just block and punish! If Zangief is crossing you up after a knockdown then find a way out!
Also, before SSF4 was released it is well known that the game was tested/played by pro gamers and the game has probably been tweeked as a result of their input. In my opinion its better to get a pro gamer to test the game then a total newcomer to the game who will probably blame the game for his/her lack of skills.
I’m treating this post as a genuine post and not a troll because a troll wouldnt surely be sad enough to register to this site, find the relevant post and then write a pretty lengthy post!
To the OP, get yourself and xbox and fight stick. SF4 has breathed new life to the fighting game scene and getting used to the mechanics of SF4 will mean you can carry those skills across to SF5, SF vs Tekken. I havent played MvC so I’m not sure what skills can be carried across from SF to MvC, but even if you dont carry any, atleast you’ll get used to your fighstick.
SSFIV is sold for buttons currently, buy it then buy whatever comes next whisper SxT whisper
What you didn’t know. Dude just get the game and enjoy it.
Try it out. If you don’t like it, there’s Blazblue CS/CT, MvC3 around the corner, and SFxTekken, 3sHDSUPEREXTRAVAGANZATURBOAMAZINGRERUBDUBALABAHUBBABUBBAMAX12 coming out eventually (~next 2 years), just to name a few titles.
Edit: Noticed I didn’t really answer the question. It’ll probably last for awhile, might see a percentage decrease for each of these titles when they launch, so maybe in 5+ years people won’t play as much. Neat thing about fighting games is they really don’t die like FPS games, where they shit a new one out every year. They just kinda fall off the map for awhile 'till people realize it’s good, so a company will remake it with better online, minor rebalancing, etc.
Basically it. I’m ranked 1 in my Diamond League and the game is still hella fun. Maybe cause I’m Korean? who knows.
til mvc3 comes out
It’s got two years of tournaments in it until SFxT anyways, for better or worse.
To capture them is my great test, to train them is my cause?
nahnahmang, To beat them is my real test, to shit talk is my cause
Damned Koreans and their natural RTS abilities…
I love SC2, all I hear from my friends is “OH IT ISN’T AS GOOD AS SC1” “GAMES NOT BALANCED” “WAHHHH”.
No shit, it’s been out for barely over a week and they haven’t released a single balance patch. Took like what, 4 years for them to get to the point where SC1 is now?
And then there’s my one friend who bitches constantly about Terran being weak and having no options even though they’re the most flexible race in the game and almost undebateably the strongest race in the game by quite a bit right now.

SSFIV will have a scene even after SFV comes out.
It won’t be very big, but the scene will still be there.
What I don’t get is why the OP wants to buy a stick based on the lifetime of the SSF4 scene.
I mean, don’t you want to play MVC2, GG or CVS2 at a high level?..No? ok then…
Or, you know, none of the above because they’re 90% dead…
I think you meant MvC3, BB or SxT at a high level. Despite GG and MvC2 being better you guys need to face it, they’re gone and replaced (if a new GG gets made I retract this statement).
Try more fighting games before you decide. Don’t let SF4 make or break your fighting game career.
