ring out = cop out no? Last ditch BS lol I hate doing it more than I hate eating it. 11/77B is the equivelant of ryu H-Shoryuken in unsafety lol, it even looks like a DP. I don’t use it a lot but that’s mainly because I got owned every time I did it vs that hard QUick Match computer. Maybe it’s a bit better IRL lol.
Worst matchups are definitely cervantes, siegfried xiba and Ivy. The long range is too hard to deal with. But I feel like if I knew their movesets more I would have an easier time. I don’t know how their dial-a-moves should be blocked so I end up eating it, either blocking the wrong way or trying to punish when there is still more left to the move. Its not like SF where there are only a couple specials to really worry about. Is his poker bluff games = shenanigans? Like the high/low grab? IS there catch all techniques that just stops the mixups fully?
ringouts add a lot of depth into the game imo, making stage control that much more important. you gotta know your opponents RO options and assume they know yours. having that knowledge allows you to narrow down what to expect from your opponent if they’re focusing on trying to score a RO, which also narrows down how you’d counter what they’d do. If you’re the one trying to score the RO and they have the same mentality as the one i just explained, then you can abuse that as well, using more stuff they wouldnt expect. For example, raphael can spam lotsa A+G throws since the opponent may be focusing on trying to break his B+G throw since it rings out. you’re just scrubby if you cant stay calm and use your brain when put in a RO situation.
11/77B is better IRL, but dont just throw it out there, it’s used for punishing. his 11/77K is a nice way to set up for his shenanigans. Yes dampierre’s fighting style revolves around shenanigans. i dont think there’s an easy way to stop all of dampierre’s shenanigans as long as you go into the stances fairly safely.
cervy: i’m not too sure myself how to fight him effectively. i hvnt found anything to abuse against him. i just got better at fighting him by playing against him a lot. he is a really solid character though. hits like a truck, has some of the best steps in the game.
sieg: learn what his low sweeping moves look like. also learn what his 3K looks like because ppl can follow it up with a low then a mid after the 3K. siegfrieds will often be doing moves that put him into his stances. if you have a move quick enough, try to smack him out of those stances as soon as the goes into them. that seems to be working for me. there’s one of his side stances where he has a really fast straight kick which you’ll have to look out for though. know what options he’s got in the stances.
xiba: if the opponent thinks you’re scrubby, they’ll 6B, K you all day. you can hit xiba in between the 6B and the K follow-up though if you do it quick enough. xiba got nerfed there too so now it’s even easier to smack him out of the K follow-up. i find that more of xiba’s strong moves are vertical moves since they do more damage, and you can score combos off them. His horizontal moves cover great range, but usually cant combo off them well, or they do low damage like his lows. step vs him and punish. dont freak out if he hits you with his low damaging lows
ivy: yeh havent fought enough of them yet to know what’s really threatening abt her. i just try to play smart vs her. lk staying on floor in case she goes for that huge horizontal/mid unblockable after she knocks me down.
Couldn`t agree more Jeff, by far best new age game. Second, although I enjoyed the cartoon Meljin, some of it is nostalgia, but a lot of it is that this generation does suck despite all the good tech advances you can find from it. basic cable programming sucks more than it ever has, video games are easier and more flashy just to entertain the dimwitted. Arcades are gone, fighting games are a joke now, and things only seem to get worse, you wait until SF turns into Super Smash Fighter Melee 5. Where all you need is a C-stick to do a shoryuken or a hadouken. Despite being a very funny comic, there is a lot it doesn’t touch on.
Melee ONCE AGAIN does not do special moves with touch of a button. Its just direction smash attack. SFxT already has the thing your thinking of where for the cost of a bar you can do a quick combo. Something you can do easily on your own, like Ryu’s solar Plex into SRK.
And that’s just the entertainment side of things. When you get into the real important shit like politics and world events, most will not be able to handle the truth of where we are going as a civilization, and subsequently stretch their lower lip over their heads and proceed to swallow.
You want fast? Long matches, but this is where my magneto comes from.

But yeah, it’s quite clear all games suck. Except the ones I play.
I’ll be at King’s 6:30-7 with Mike and Alvin and a sick new corner combo!
Man watching the A2 footage and now MVC2 makes me wonder how Capcom fighting games went so wrong since SF4. It’s like Ono was hired to sabotage the scene. Hopefully now that he’s not in charge anymore someone who actually knows how to make a good SF game will bring things back to the way they were…
2D is actually THE most important thing on that list and has everything to do with how good a SF game is. Why? Because going 3D meant that Capcom started selling out. It’s the principle behind the action that told me everything I needed to know about the future of SF. I dunno about you, but I don’t take shit at face value. 2D graphics would mark a return to OG SF.
