i’ll be there tonight. lol jeff dont worry. blocking offline is a lot easier. you got the high/low mixup idea down though. switch it up with nightmare’s (i think) 44B -> A+B -> 2A+B. might not be 44B, it’s whatever B move that puts you in his stance. bait me into blocking low, then smack me with that combo.
Who is everyone playing in SC5 anyway? I’m playing Leixia, I guess Jeff is Nightmare, Alvin has Ezio I think… Ben? Partisan? Is anyone else playing?
Sorry to get back on this so late but I WILL be able to host some games at my place tomorrow probably around 5/6pm - whenever. Just let me know if you’re interested in coming and I’ll PM you the info.
Let me know if you can bring a setup or anything as well. I have a CRT and an EVO monitor for use as well as a 360 and PS3 (Only have SCV on PS3 right now). Other games are welcome too but you’d have to bring them yourself.

I can show up tomorrow but it might be a bit later…like 9’ish if that’s ok; going to hit the gym first. I can bring a 360 and a TV to use but I don’t have Algol, DJ, or Kilik unlocked yet.
As for learning the game…I think anything would be good. Just playing the game and considering how lost I am playing it I know that anyone who sees me play the game would have to be asking how I could possibly be so bad at it.
They both are. Yoshi feels a lot different from what I remember, Raph feels exactly the same as always.
Troy, teach movement/spacing first. When I was young, I played some Dead or Alive, Virtua Fighter, Bloody Roar, etc. and later I got into Tekken and Soul Calibur, and I have to say that IMO one of the most important things in 3D games is movement and spacing. If you’re not constantly moving/adjusting in response to your opponent, you’re basically a 400 pound tuna in a kiddy pool waiting to get dynamited.
In this regard, 3D games are similar to SF. In SF, if you don’t have good movement (ie. footsies/spacing/zoning, knowing when to walk up/back, knowing when to jump in/back/up), you’re screwed.
Also, Ryan, tape some sets tonight. Troy, tape some SC sets tomorrow. Also get some sets going, preferably between ppl who haven’t fought yet. Post vids on here when they’re up.
edit: lol wow I may have to take back what I said about spacing/movement in this game cause I just watched some levelup SC5 footage, and ppl are just standing toe to toe and attacking lol reminds me of the Don Frye vs Yoshihiro Takayama fight. Maybe cause it’s early on in the game and ppl dunno wtf they’re doing but yeah, was sorta funny (and depressing) to see.
I’ll be there tonight around 7, really hope we can record. Not sure about tomorrow, but should be able to go after work at 7/8. Also, I’m almost 100% going to Philadelphia for Winter Brawl next weekend. If anyone’s interested in busing from Toronto to Philly, we’ll talk.

I have started back with Cervantes and somewhat of Natsu. Ezio was OK to me but I did not mess with him alot per se.
I should be able to come and I will probably time it around 7ish with Joe.
I will drag along my setup for PS3 as well. Only unlocks I have in SCV are Kilik, Algol,Iai-jutsu Patroklos and Omega Pyrrha.
Ukemi timing and Just Guard stuff is my focus, and then everything else…

I might be interested in Winter Brawl, but what are the dates for it? Is it 2 or 3 day? too lazy to search
We can definitely record tonight but people really need to remember to stop the recording when their set is done and start it again before starting a set. Needing to put manual breaks in the videos is more work for me as I have to go through all of them to figure out where each set ends, then it takes a ton of time to recompile the video, and we lose quality on the recompile as well…it’s really the only reason I haven’t put the videos from last session up yet (I’ll probably post them when I post this week’s session).
And Partisan Ben has a really good idea. I don’t know any of the Soul Calibur lingo either so getting into the stuff specific to this game would be nice. “Just Guard” I gather is just a perfect guard, but I have no idea what “Just Frame” is so I assume it’s like a 1-frame link but I’m probably wrong.
As much as I’ll berate myself for being bad at Soul Calibur, let’s not forget I was actually one of the best in the world at Castlevania: Judgment (though the limited field of competition had a lot to do with that I’m sure). I don’t know the systems of Soul Calibur yet but when I do I might actually end up being pretty good (or I could still be horrilbe).
My experiences with 3D fighters (pretty much strictly Castlevania) have taught me that it’s mostly about creative setups; the freedom of movement gives you near-limitless options to create new mixups your opponent couldn’t possibly have prepared for. They are also about abusing cheese. Death + Bat Swarm how I miss you…guaranteed damage against every oki…
