London Thread 2009

Fair enough. Let’s do that.

Super Turbo, HD Remix, and Street Fighter IV i guess lol
Are there any specific rules to these matches concerning like character choices, time, round number, etc. ?

I want 3S ranbats a la FFA style with Rockefeller assist. If not Rockefeller, then Corry  I really don’t care about anything else until my stick is done.

If i have time, I’ll join 3s and CVS2 for fun lol

Corry’s commentary = :tup::tup::tup::tup:

Thinking some more about this, let’s try and pull these ranbats off in style. Does anyone know how to record using direct feed while recording commentary at the same time?

Also, Stephan, the format will be round robin, best 2/3, loser can switch character, winner keeps his.

CVS2: Arcade characters only
3S: Arcade characters only
A3: Arcade characters only
HDR: Everything goes (including Akuma)
SF4: Everything goes

Also, we can do AE because I know Chris loves that game. I would be up for it. Either have AE the game, or have CE/HF as separate games.

Looking at the above list, it seems really big for a small group of people, which is why I was thinking about creating some sort of system that can put it all together. I’ll give it some more thought and post something later.

im voting akuma be banned from ranbats, casuals fine

I did PM em, no reply yet.

Thx man

@Stephan: You want HDR Akuma to be banned? ST Akuma should be and is banned at any serious tournament, but he’s not broken in HDR. I’m pretty sure he’s allowed at most tourneys, if not all.

Anyway, for our ranbats, I say we split up into two teams. Whenever we get new members, they get added to one or the other.

Within these two teams, we create game specific teams. So for example, let’s say team A consists of myself, Corry, Will, Chris, and Andrew, then we would have the following (keep in mind I don’t know for sure what games these people still play):

CVS2: me and Corry
3S: me, Corry, Will, Chris
SF4: me, Corry, Will, Chris, and Andrew
ST: me and Chris

etc.

Now, if one team has only two CVS2 players, and the other has let’s say has four, then it doesn’t matter, because the two will play the four for the +1 that week. It would go like this:

Team A (me/Corry) vs Team B (A/B/C/D)
1st round: I beat A
2nd round: I beat B
3rd round: C beats me
4th round: C beats Corry

Team B wins

So that’s how it would go.

This also makes the system much more adaptable to unforseen but almost guaranteed absenses that will occur week to week.

So, let’s say Team A has a strong SF4 representation week 3, but Team B doesn’t have ANY, then SF4 will not happen. BUT, the chances that a game specific matchup won’t happen is VERY slim, unless the game variety among the two teams is EXTREMELY small.

We can keep track of scores based on a +1 per game basis, and we can keep this going for a few months, and then totally switch teams when let’s say one team reaches 20 points or something similar.

What do you guys think? I personally think it’s a great idea because let’s be honest, we don’t have that many people yet, and rooting for your team is a lot of fun, and brings out good team spirit AND also creates a sort of bond, that will let people get to know each other better etc.

Post your thoughts…

Wouldn’t it be better for the new members, especially those who are new to a game, to focus on only one game? If I were to learn 3s and IV at the same time I would get completely screwed over by the different gameplay mechanics.

Also, I find that doing ranbats in terms of teams doesn’t actually give one a true realization of how good/bad they are doing. Since we are bound to have absences from the games I suggest that we have a different sort of system.

x = [(# of games won)/(# of games played)]

Where x is the percentage of games won, ofcourse whoever wins more will be considered the better player. Also, with this method we can also keep track of each member’s individual scoring in each game. Just something to consider.

HDR Akuma is still banned at most serious tourneys (evo included), while not as bad as Super T akuma persay, hes still broken regardless, that fact hasn’t changed lol

I like the team idea, its new, lets try it

Well, the thing is that if you want to stick to SF4, you can. You’d be one of the SF4 reps on your team. The reason I think a team thing would work better than singles for now is cause this is what would happen:

-me, Corry, Will, Chris, Andrew, Stephan show up let’s say
-we all play SF4 for the ranbat
-then like 2-3 people play in maybe one or two of the other games

So the results will be like:

Week1 for SF4

  1. blah
  2. blah
  3. blah

Week1 for the rest

  1. blah
  2. and blah

So basically the other games would pale in comparison, and it would be pretty lame doing ranbats for a couple of people.

If we do a team format, then all the games combined would make for a good time (since everyone plays what they like), and the performance can STILL be tracked individually (as well as collectively).

IE.

Week1 results

  1. Team A +3 points
  2. Team B +2 points

And then we’ll have the individual results like:

Team A SF4 (A/B/C/D) vs Team B (E/F/G)
-A beats E
-A beats F
etc. etc.

ANYWAY, LET’S GIVE THIS SYSTEM A TRY. THE ONLY QUESTION REMAINING IS HOW DO WE SPLIT THE TEAMS UP AND MAKE THEM FAIR? DO YOU GUYS WANT TO SELECT CAPTAINS AND HAVE THEM CHOOSE ALA ULTIMATE FIGHTER?

@Stephan: I didn’t know EVO banned him. Good to know thx

I guess to split the teams up we simply have a tournament. The Finalists will be the team captains, winner of the tournament picks first.

1st Round picks will be from the semifinalists
2nd Round picks will be from the quarterfinalists…etc

Until everyone is on a team.

I think that’s too much work to be honest, and we would need to have many tournaments in many games for that to work.

You know what, screw the captain idea, it’s elitist and ppl who get picked last will feel bad, although they could end up becoming the best in the long run.

So I’m gonna make it easy. To reignite the flame of the old DT arcade scene, I’ll take Corry and Will, and that’ll be the core of one team. Who’s man enough to step up and take charge and start the second team? :karate:

Could just do random draws and no one can complain lol. I go by DBZ Tournament standards lol.

Also, did any/most of you know that there’s a new announcer for Super SF4? He’s manlier sounding too lol

Yea i agree with drew, random draws are better for now, if we need to adjust later we can. And yea i heard the new announcer in the new trailer! lol

Well I guess random is most fair. Ok then, this Thursday, bring your rabbit feet, cause we’re drawing from a hat!

LOL SFIV SNUGGIE

Stefault… is that you on the cover? :karate:

Just playin’

Ya, just playin’ on a shit system with a shit controller. No arcade stick in sight.

I’d buy it and wear it in tournaments. Also, because it has all the characters on it. I like how it kinda looks like an official “Street Fighter 4” item. Like you gotta drop 100 to get this and be good at the game.

Actually I’m contemplating heading to toys r us and seeing if I can pick me up one of those bad boys
